I wouldn't call the commenter an asshole necessarily. He just has a different sense of humor than my own. I mean, going back to this video I find that the jokes are a bit too repetitive imo and that's something I've tried working on in my more recent videos. But, plenty of people have found this video funny and interesting so it doesn't really matter what I or anyone else thinks as long as someone enjoys it.
@rattmanthestupid I'll be the first to admit my comment was less 'constructive' and more 'criticism'. But you're doing something I never could, so yeah.
These jokes were bad, but the fact that the bad jokes are consistently committed to is what makes them good. I think part of what makes this video so good is that you begin a challenge that you cannot do, and then proceed to do everything else if you could do it, so it's still interesting. And at the end it's like 'So, is it possible to do this challenge to which this entire video is dedicated? No.' and then the video ends not long after. It's like hearing a story that seems like it's going somewhere but actually isn't, and I feel like that is a fairly unique experience. Not quite what was done here, but it's like rambling about some story as if it's important but nothing of interest happens, and then you get distracted by the game, thus abruptly ending the strange story, and then a little bit later you start telling another story. I don't really know how to describe how it feels other than successfully making me mildly anticipate a lettuce sandwich. And that's a talent.

Yeah, I've been trying to work on having less repetitive and more interesting commentary cause even I go back to this and think "nah, this could've been better".
There is technically a way to glitch under the sand i think? Im not sure tho, nor am i sure if it does exist that its possible todo it before starting the loop
Yeah, I've been looking into it more recently after accidentally glitching through Ember Twins surface and into the cave (happens at 3:30 in this video th-cam.com/video/760tvumUsjM/w-d-xo.html). I also have made games in Unity and know a little bit on how the Unity physics system works (and how all video games have to work). Basically, all games are constricted by your computers frames per second (FPS) when running updates. So, the fastest a game can calculate the physics is dependent on your frame rate. So, if I'm moving 20 m/s with a wall that is that is 10 meters away from me, I can phase through a wall in a game by lowering my frame rate. Pretty much, if in less than 1 frame I go from being on one side of the wall to the other due to my speed out pacing my frame rate, the game cannot calculate that I hit the wall since there is no frame of me actually hitting said wall. So I could theoretically slow down Outer Wilds by so much that I meet this requirement. Now, this all sounds good and easy on paper, but it's an entirely different problem in practice. The problem truly arises with how thick the sand volume is on Ash Twin. The reason I was able to glitch through Ember Twin is because the surface was pretty thin, I was moving fast and the surface needed time to load in. All of these created a long enough buffer window for the physics update to fail, but the same cannot be said for ash twin. Ash twin only has a texture LOD (Level of Detail) for the the sand volume. The sand volume cannot be unload due to it being a non-static (moving) object. So the physics update happens far sooner than it does on Ember Twin and the thickness of the sand volume means my frame rate would have to be agonizingly low for even a hope that I make it through. This isn't even mentioning how the fact I'd have to find a malware free external FPS limiter app that would work with Outer Wilds. So, is it doable? probably. Will I do it? maybe. Will it take a long time? oh most definitely.
It's not being a hater when you have genuine criticism like the pinned comment. I over-did some jokes, used jokes that wouldn't age well (because they were funny memes at the time) and so-on. I've tried fixing that issue in my more recent uploads and it's only thanks to the pinned comment that I noticed some of those issues.
This is a really cool question! The answer is yes. This is because when you warp to the eye, the game loads a new map (same thing happens when you activate the statue in the museum).
I wasn't going to include the full 5 minutes of me hoping the ash twin sand moving service would start. not to mention that you start in a version of the solar system that doesn't actually simulate anything other than orbits.
@@rattmanthestupid actually a time lapse of you standing on Ash Twin's equator as the Sun and Ember Twin circle around you dozens of times with zero sandflow could've been hilarious
I see alot of criticism on your video but your responses have been telling so I'll add some constructive criticism. Be more of you, less of other TH-camrs, if you're going to add commentary after recording then focus more on jokes that last rather than referential humour, I'd also tone down on the self-depricating humour as your viewers don't know you. You're very likeable, I just think your focus is off. On a positive, something youre doing right is focusing on interesting topics. Outer Wilds needs more humour as the community is mostly "this changed my view on life" kinda stuff, so this video was definitely a breath of fresh air. You seem really open to feedback, so im excited to see how you evolve as a creator.
Thanks for the response. I definitely get where you're coming from with the "referential humor". Thinking about it, that probably is my biggest flaw as a creator. I just like other creators too much and want to share their stuff with others. I actually had a video planned and recorded (that will probably never come out, at least in the state it's in now) where I was just talking about small creators that I enjoy. Maybe I will finish the video talking about small creators. That way these challenge videos can be more easily enjoyed by others (as I can cut the referential humor) and I can still talk about the creators I enjoy and share their content with others. Honestly, my biggest goal as a TH-camr is getting to a point where I could do collab videos with smaller channels and share that spotlight with them.
@@rattmanthestupid I appreciate your perspective, but I don't quite get why your goal is to collaborate. You've got enough wit and drive to thrive on your own, you don't need to be a "feature", you're smart and witty enough to be someone people want to feature with. Stick at it, I really think you'll become something special if you just keep to being you
Yes, nothing is simulated besides orbits when you start the game for the first time. When you look at the nomai statue, the game loads a new version of the solar system with everything simulated. Pretty much, the solar system when first loading doesnt have an exploding sun, a brittle hollow that breaks apart, an hourglass twin that actually moves sand and an interloper that gets swallowed by the sun. I've actually played around in this version of the solar system for like 3 hours trying to map out a way to get all the ship logs without starting the loop. As for the "ship logs in zero loops" experiment, Gabbro works for the Time Variant Authority and makes this challenge completely impossible.
honestly i know nothing about brad but he seems like more of a keeper than your wife of 6 years. shoot your shot my guy (yes ik you were probably doing a bit, im just going along with it)
also JEEZ these comments are mean like holy shit- i found the video quite funny actually! definitely a fun watch, and i'll keep the tab open to maybe check out the rest of your channel at some point.
yeah, that's exactly what I said in the video. But it is possible with the help of mods. So at the end of the video I say it is impossible but the video is more about seeing how far I can get and how much I can break the game by saying "fuck your rules".
No, that's wrong, very wrong, the player don't "start" the loop, the player "notice" the loop, before game begins the loop already happened. The loop don't explode the sun, sun naturally explode and then the loop begins. But the video is still impossible because if player destroy loop without notice it, how does the loop happens before?
@@batmirin35 Looking at the statue is what starts the 22-minute timer in-game. You get infinite time to explore otherwise, it's like that so that you don't have the sun explode on you while you're exploring the tutorial area. Obviously that's not how it should work story-wise, it's just bending the rules a little since it can't affect anything outside the beginning of your very first loop unless you use exploits or cheats like in the video.
Now that you mention it, the person I was inspired by was very similar to Mr. Moist. My biggest inspiration for my video style is definitely mittensquad. If you don't know who he was, he was a fantastic TH-camr and I loved his videos. He sadly died last year. As far as I know, his family has not said the cause of death, but he had been battling with alcoholism for a while. He was a great man though who inspired me to start this channel. I wish the best for his family.

Comedy is all about timing. I can't say the timing really landed for me, maybe flow is something to work on? As is, the commentary feels a bit monotone and the jokes don't stand out from the rest of what you're saying. I respect the effort though!

You try way too hard to be funny. It’s better to just be yourself and speak the way you actually would to another person. You make a joke in pretty much every sentence. There needs to be a way bigger break between each joke or have no jokes at all. And more video editing can help the jokes land better too
My guy, it's literally impossible without cheats. I'll agree on the bad jokes. But I spent many hours testing different ideas so don't tell me I didn't try.
@@Игорь-щ4г2з not that weird. Pretty sure the sand is a volume meaning it is a very thick sphere. Most clipping is done due to unloaded volumes or thin volumes. thin volumes can be clipped through by moving fast enough that unity's physics engine doesn't have time to calculate the fact that you're running into a solid object. unloaded objects need time to load so moving faster than the frame-update for unity will also allow for clipping through objects. the problem with the sand on ash twin is it's a thick volume that is always loaded. since the sand on ash twin moves, unity cannot unload it. so yeah, that's why it's nearly impossible to clip through the sand on ash twin.

@@rattmanthestupid yeah, might be a cool speedrun catagory if you find a consistent way todo it Loopless%
I’m not tryna be a hater, but I agree with the guy on the pinned comment. You’ll get better at it, I’m sure
It's not being a hater when you have genuine criticism like the pinned comment. I over-did some jokes, used jokes that wouldn't age well (because they were funny memes at the time) and so-on. I've tried fixing that issue in my more recent uploads and it's only thanks to the pinned comment that I noticed some of those issues.
nice
Even there's a lot of dislikes, I, spanish rat, sitting here watching your video I laughed a lot :D
Moisty ahh jokes
This might be SPOILER but
does the sun still go supernova in 22 minutes in the distance (2:31) if you reach the eye without starting the loop?
This is a really cool question! The answer is yes. This is because when you warp to the eye, the game loads a new map (same thing happens when you activate the statue in the museum).
WYM the Ash Twin was doing nothing? It takes a minute or two for the sand column to start.
I wasn't going to include the full 5 minutes of me hoping the ash twin sand moving service would start.
not to mention that you start in a version of the solar system that doesn't actually simulate anything other than orbits.
@@rattmanthestupid Fair enough.
@@rattmanthestupid actually a time lapse of you standing on Ash Twin's equator as the Sun and Ember Twin circle around you dozens of times with zero sandflow could've been hilarious
@@minerman60101 that's a great idea! mods, ban this guy.
Stick at it, I really think you'll become something special if you just keep to being you
@@RagingCookie127 sorry for the misunderstanding, I did mean that I wanted people to feature with me.
That's cool, didn't know it's, almost possible, lol, so like, the sun can't explode without starting the loop or?
Yes, nothing is simulated besides orbits when you start the game for the first time. When you look at the nomai statue, the game loads a new version of the solar system with everything simulated.
Pretty much, the solar system when first loading doesnt have an exploding sun, a brittle hollow that breaks apart, an hourglass twin that actually moves sand and an interloper that gets swallowed by the sun.
I've actually played around in this version of the solar system for like 3 hours trying to map out a way to get all the ship logs without starting the loop.
As for the "ship logs in zero loops" experiment, Gabbro works for the Time Variant Authority and makes this challenge completely impossible.
honestly i know nothing about brad but he seems like more of a keeper than your wife of 6 years. shoot your shot my guy
(yes ik you were probably doing a bit, im just going along with it)
The bit is never over
also JEEZ these comments are mean like holy shit-
i found the video quite funny actually! definitely a fun watch, and i'll keep the tab open to maybe check out the rest of your channel at some point.
@@rattmanthestupid true...
this is impossible because if the time loop hasnt been started the sun wont explode and the hourglass twin's sand wont fall
yeah, that's exactly what I said in the video. But it is possible with the help of mods. So at the end of the video I say it is impossible but the video is more about seeing how far I can get and how much I can break the game by saying "fuck your rules".
@@rattmanthestupid realy???
I have a strange suspicion that your comedy is inspired a lot by moist critical
Now that you mention it, the person I was inspired by was very similar to Mr. Moist. My biggest inspiration for my video style is definitely mittensquad. If you don't know who he was, he was a fantastic TH-camr and I loved his videos. He sadly died last year. As far as I know, his family has not said the cause of death, but he had been battling with alcoholism for a while.
He was a great man though who inspired me to start this channel. I wish the best for his family.
I couldn't understand half the things you said, especially the beginning with the and and dead bodies with book covering and orgasm denier :'(
Yeah, I'm trying to work on slowing down how fast I read my scripts when recording them. Thanks for watching the video and giving some feedback!
Dude! You absolutely deserve more subs. You're commentary is some of the best I've ever heard. The bit about your wife's boyfriend, Brad picking her over you has me rolling, and I'm sure a lot of people not listening carefully may have missed that one. Spot on.

Nice way to alienate any chance of a female audience and also annoy plenty of men with shitty repetitive jokes that never get funny
I'm gay anyways so I don't care for a female audience.
@@rattmanthestupidhoney the gays love us, being attracted to men doesn’t make you a raging misogynist unless ur already stupid
Look, I didn't mean the joke to be misogynistic. The joke was supposed to be self-depreciating (that's why the good man that is Brad gets with my wife instead of me). I wish you luck with streaming as your videos are fun to watch.
so true
Comedy is all about timing. I can't say the timing really landed for me, maybe flow is something to work on? As is, the commentary feels a bit monotone and the jokes don't stand out from the rest of what you're saying. I respect the effort though!
For me, I feel like it is exactly this that makes it such a bizarre and unique experience to view, whilst simultaneously seeming like nothing special.
What in the Christ fuck have I stumbled upon (not /neg)

@@rattmanthestupidignore them. I think you’re funny. If they don’t like it they can just leave and not comment
You try way too hard to be funny. It’s better to just be yourself and speak the way you actually would to another person. You make a joke in pretty much every sentence. There needs to be a way bigger break between each joke or have no jokes at all. And more video editing can help the jokes land better too

Too much bad jokes, not enough actually trying to do stuff without cheats. Disappointing.
My guy, it's literally impossible without cheats. I'll agree on the bad jokes. But I spent many hours testing different ideas so don't tell me I didn't try.
@@rattmanthestupid kinda weird that speedrunners still didn't find a way to clip through sand actually
I'm sorry.
