Mark, you are at your best when you are talking about the joy your receive from working on the cars, satisfying your customers, and giving accolades to your staff. Hearing you whine about your unfortunate past is unbecoming of a man who has accomplished so much. Please stop the self-pity. You and your staff do amazing work, and if I were ever in the position where I needed a vintage Mopar restored, your shop is the only one I'd consider.

I thought the picture in picture end bit was very funny!! Thanks for the laughs guys!!! I could see why the owners unhappy with the bit but a bunch of us had a good laugh! I have to say no sorrow for the fortunate, this just an annoyance thing. Many of us have lived suffering for years; me with an on the job back injury & my husband sick with Lyme Disease for most of his life, misdiagnosed for 12 years by about 10 different doctors. He's restored many cars for others, never restored a car for himself, never bought a new car. He's now 67 & I doubt he ever will, his life will be cut short due to this chronic disease.

Mark is a lot like the Harley guys most of the time. He seems to think these Mopar pieces were at the top of the heap without comparison. But quality control was never a Mopar strong suit and the competition was up to it. We always had a hemi or 2 running around and several 440's, with a slew of 383's. Equally impressive were the Pontiac 421's, big block Chevelles. One of our fastest rodders was running a 396 Nova. Every damn one of them, Mopars & all, would trade without hesitation for either of the 2 427 Vettes that were local to us. That was top of the heap and we all knew it. While I dearly love the Charger body lines, they were not the only game in town.

GM and Ford didn’t build quality either I worked for a GM and a Chrysler Dealer for years , Chrysler definitely had lots of painting issues and assembly line tools left in vehicles that I found over the years specialty one . GM just builds garbage vehicles now

The build quality in the late 1960's/early 1970's was truly horrendous. The overspray and misalignment are unfortunately typical of the period. I saw a video where a Chevrolet dealer saved cars directly off the transport in a personal collection. One was a 1969 Chevelle SS. It was every bit as bad as the car in this video - overspray, crooked decals, misaligned bumper. A brand new car with less than 10 miles on it.

I thought the couple was cool, very unpretentious or unpresumptous. They were matter of fact and you know I understand Mark's feelings but just because I am fortunate and you are less fortunate does not make you or them (the other family) less or more!
My first car was a 56 Buick Century 322 4bbl with turbo dynaflow and dual exhausts. Sounded wonderful first start of the day. The old nail valve 322 would run like a scalded dog. I got the jump on many the driver from the light cause he did not understand what I had. Low Range rev til the valves floated then slam her in drive and that old big car would jump again.
Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs GTO's all were cool. But daddy worked hard at a paper mill and provided for us. Not a lot extra but any chance he had he would do for mom and I where we knew he was special. We had had 50's Buicks in the driveway since I was a little tike so when daddy gave me the keys in 69 to that 56 when I got my drivers license you would have thought it was a Ferrari or something. It was my car, I loved it, I hot rodded the heck out of it and restored it to basically 1956 again. I did not feel slighted in the very least, not at all. I watched other young people get new cars that the high school crowd considered stylish. But let me tell you I have a B&W 5X7 I took and printed in my own darkroom of my Buick low and front in 1971. She was a pretty girl and never disappointed. I still in 2023 think she was among the prettiest cars ever made. I look at the photo (still clear today) when I am in my shop and miss the lovely old girl to this day!
So there you have it fond memories, struggles, tough times but I do not feel deprived. Would not change a thing!

Please Stop whining, you have made it better then probably most of the kids you went to school with. and you even have one of your friend's, Doug ,working for you. you could have just as easily been working for him. you survived all that was thrown at you, and now own you own Business, making good money. I grew up in Springfield also, spent the 70s and 80s doing thing's I probably should not have, and most of my friend's are dead, or in jail. i survived that time also. So enjoy what you have and move on from your bad childhood. NOTHING can change the past, that's why its call the PAST.
P.S. Don't let those have's take away from us have not's. In the long run we probably have some better memory's then they do. even though we had to work for what we got , we appreciate it more then they do, because we had to work. Daddy would always buy them what ever they wanted, I would rather have worked for my stuff, my car my motorcycle or what ever, riding my bike to deliver paper's at 5oclock in the morning after it was changed from evening delivery. they can keep there hand out's, ill work for my thing's. P.S.S. I truly miss those time's.😎😎😁

Unfortunately it has turned this generation into spoilt brats who have no patience and too much self entitlement...

Years ago in grammar school and then to Jr High (now "middle school" to be politically correct) I remember a guy living down the street that ran east and west to ours that was north and south. His lot was in a corner turn, i.e. if you did not slow and turn left to intersect the main highway or right into his driveway you would drive right out into a play ground. Well this is significant and worth note to our story.
The other direction on his street, west, took you down a moderate straightaway then a stop and to the right a short street to the main road. So essentially every week day while I was getting ready for school about 7:15 Am you could step out on the porch, look and listen to the left toward the east/west street he lived on. You would hear his 68 Road Runner special 383 fire up. In a minute he would back out his drive and blast off like a rocket headed east. Man the sound of that 383 as compared to the sound of this car was a fond reminder of the very special memories I have of my early pre and teen years with the sound of 427 LTD's, 429 Mustangs and that awesome Road Runner. Made my day 50 years ago and warms me up inside with the fond memories of Dad and I doing just about all our own mechanic work. The Road Runner was a spartan Beast Mode car I'd love to have as his was then right now. The Daytona is a car to desire and would be just great. Glad we saw the transformation of a great original (more/less) car back to show quality like new or better again. Great job, great car and great family! Kudos!

Mark I feel you , I had a shitty childhood father in prison most my childhood splitting a can of green beans between 4 kids . My mom struggled hard . Then he came home and life got even worse with him there . Then at 15 I met my wife we’ve been together for 25 years we have 5 kids and life never seems to give us a break . At 19 my wife almost passed from heart problems and needed heart surgery then a few years later she had a pulmonary embolism that almost killed her , two of our children almost passed at birth one of them was damn near gone from meningitis but they both survived. Then 5 years ago I get diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and I’m in remission after years of chemo . In that time frame I lost mom to lung cancer and found dad dead from a heart attack in his apartment. Yea life is fun sometimes 🤦‍♂️

Mark sounds bitter and jealous. There would be no way I'd bring a million dollar car to be restored for an episode and want to hear about your sad life. A business is about the customer, not the owner. My life was a shit sandwich too with lots of disappointments, deaths in the family and betrayal but I'd rather focus on what I became in spite of the set backs.

I've seen photos showing two Daytonas, one with a black tail stripe, the other with a white one. The hurricane-damaged car has a white tail stripe, the stripe on the one restored here is black. Pretty sure the hurricane-damaged car also had the stock Magnum 500s instead of the 5-slot mags on this car.

Mark broke a golden rule - and made the customer unhappy with him, probably losing the work on their other three cars, by letting his personal baggage and cynicism out to the world. He is even still jealous of his cousin after all these years. He should really put the past away and be grateful and happy with the position he is in now.
