The period story reminded me of a wholesome moment with my dad:
When I was a kid I pissed my pants at a Quiznos right when I got inside the bathroom and I was sooooooo embarrassed. I called my dad into the little bathroom cause I didn’t know what to do and he turned on the sink and started throwing water everywhere. All over me and the walls and floor and I kid you not he went to the employees and used his best acting skills to convince them that their toilet exploded on me. I got a bunch of free Quiznos shirts to change into and a free meal that day.
Your dad’s a legend, gonna have to remember this tactic for when I one day have my own kids hahaha

@@Ajesen yes a funeral is essentially the last goodbye and can be deemed as disrespectful if missed however if you barely know them I do understand skipping it. With regards to that situation a lot of it was the inability to show said respect but also be there for supporting her sister. Support when someone dies is essential. Hopefully this makes sense, it’s okay to not understand and to sometimes feel non-sentimental. I’m sure in your own specific way there are odd things that are sentimental or there could be none. Either way as long as you live your life as a kind person, your doing it right 😊

The story with the guy hiding his wife's things is literally almost the exact story told in the novel that the term 'gaslighting' was coined from! The novel involves a husband rearranging the furniture every night while his wife was sleeping and in turn eventually convincing her that she was losing touch with reality. Sooo many people misuse this term as is it actually a pretty rare phenomenon and only a psychopath would do something like that intentionally. That man fits the bill almost exactly for the most accurate example of gaslighting that I've ever heard of in my life!

I show that film to my clients in the intensive outpatient program I work in. It’s a fantastic movie that illustrates the power dynamics of someone who gaslights their partner.

That was one of my first thoughts. I grew up the youngest in a family of 6 where my mother is the only woman. I have no idea what a period is like, but i know when someone is just starting experiencing them, they have to be terrified. That girl was mortified already, and the dad just traumatized her probably for the rest of her life. I seriously hope her mother divorced her father after that cruise. I would've gotten arrested for throwing that man overboard, if I saw that happen. At the very least, I would've gone off on him and defended his daughter. I'm only 19, but I'm 6'1 and weigh over 230 pounds. I wouldn't have stopped until that guy was as embarrassed as his daughter, or until he went overboard. I couldn't imagine doing something like that, let alone in public.
I had my first period at 12 in a pool at the water park area of a theme park. My parents werent there bc i went on a trip with family friends and their kids. An older woman told me I was bleeding and I was MORTIFIED. I immediately got out, went to a bathroom, had a panic attack, changed, and stuffed toilet paper in my underwear. I was so humiliated and had so much shame about periods that i didn't even tell the adults I was with. (No cell phone bc I wasn't old enough and cell phones werent as common for younger kids to have yet) I spent the rest of the day at the park using toilet paper, cramping, and being worried that blood would come through.
If an adult had punished me, shamed me, and mocked me for that....I probably would've broken down crying. This is already a core memory and nobody made me feel shitty about it! I can't imagine having your parent berate you like that over something that's already extremely sensitive

Nope. Definitely true. Reminds me of my dad (to an extreme level). He isn’t that bad about periods but I went on a trip to Disneyland with my family the other day. One day I was locked in my hotel room and victim blamed and also was bitch-slapped by him (across the face) the next day. Why? What had I done? Not much of anything. As a Swiftie myself there are several costumes you could make that could you could "dual wield" for a funeral and for her tour. Her Reputation era is all black, maybe don't wear snakes to the funeral but you can easily wear a dark base and touch it up on the way there.

It's always the parents who do not teach their kids about how to handle things in life that get mad at their kids for not knowing how to handle things in life
Yes I wanted to cry listening to that story. Trying to navigate your period as a child is so unbelievably overwhelming at times and to have something like this happen and then have a parent who is supposed to love and support you absolutely destroy you will definitely be a defining moment in that kid's life. Just from the detail of the "punishment" I'm going to assume this wasn't the first incident of cruelty and I wouldn't be surprised if she grows up and cuts off all contact.
I work at a theme park and I had a young girl and her father come up to me and some coworkers the other day; she had gotten her first period and was freaking out. The dad walked up and gave all of us attitude about not knowing how to help her other than finding a female employee to help. We took the girl to get some feminine products and left the dad there. She was calm and collected after we left him, and I felt so much pain for her.
I’m furious that the 13 year old girls mother didn’t put a stop to that and actually allowed her daughter to be ostracised at dinner. Regardless of if she’s angry at her husband now, I can’t believe it went that far.

YUP. like, no, it’s generally not a good idea to go swimming on your period, sanitary products generally do not survive getting submerged in water. But she’s a 13 year old kid; some kids don’t start their periods until age 12, so maybe not even a year of living with her courses, and she’s probably dealing with adolescent hormones plus period mood swings plus trauma to boot, of course she’s emotional. Poor kid learned EVERYTHING she needed to know and then some from the initial awful experience. What she needed was a hug, a towel, a change of clothes, and a dad who’d go to bat for her; what she got was punishments and a dad who joined the cruise staff in mocking his middle school-aged daughter.
I think the boys are right and those punishments had nothing to do with hygiene or the daughter’s issues and everything to do with a man wanting to take his embarrassment out on someone and reassert control of his world.

The period story made me so angry. I was alone with my father when I got my first period, circa fifth grade. I was unrelatedly sick in the hospital, and he worked nights at the time while my mom worked days.
The man didn’t panic. He didn’t shame me. Or make me feel worse than I already did. He got me clean clothes. Got pads from a nurse. And a bar of my favorite chocolate from my overnight bag started a Ghibli movie on our portable dvd player.

something a lot of people don't realize about dogs is that the training never stops. you don't teach them some commands as a puppy and then call it a day, you have to build a bond, socialize them with other dogs and animals, make sure they're not dealing with unreleased nervous energy etc. it truly is a dog life long commitment.

It’s actually really nice to see how young men think about women in a whole different way than men of my generation (I’m 49) and older typically do. It warms my heart (and I have a cold heart) to see guys treating women equally and expressing sympathy for our issues. As a teenager, I learned to shut down my feelings and not bother my boyfriend or husband with my fears and traumas. I knew they didn’t care. That was obvious. It’s really sweet how girls of the younger generations can count on their boyfriends for understanding and comfort. I never cry in front of a man (or anyone) and I doubt I ever will, because I think it would only be used against me somehow, but I’m glad things are changing. ❤

And somehow she bled through her suit (I'm assuming with the "trying to cover herself" part), there's blood everywhere in the pool AND the lifeguards are trying to clean up a large pool of blood? The average woman bleeds at most 5tbsp of blood during their entire cycle. If she was bleeding that severely she would need immediate medical attention.

Whenever I get period cramps, I curl up in a ball on the couch with a heating pad until I feel better. He loved it, saying I was “so cute all curled up!” I’d just look at him and say “I’m in pain.” He’d just say “Well, yeah, but you’re being cute” It was very weird.

Good period accident story to kind of help "get over" what that dad did to his daughter: When I was thirteen, it was maybe my second time ever having my period and I was in math class. I had leaked on the back of my pants, but didn't notice. (I wouldn't have been able to call my parents and ask them to bring me anything to change into, because my mom and dad both worked full time). The teacher did though, but she didn't bring attention to it. Instead, she went next door to ask the teacher there to look in on the class from time to time. Then she left for maybe fifteen, twenty minutes and came back with pads, some sweatpants, and underwear that she'd guesstimated would be close to my size. She went to the store to get me these things. No one was the wiser about what happened. This was just a teacher. It kills me that the dad in that story couldn't muster up any empathy for his child.

My grandma never left my shitty grandpa though, so my Aunt had to watch her mom stick it out in an awful marriage and watch her mom let her husband be mean to her kids and grandkids. So what does my aunt do? She gets into a relationship with a guy who treats her and her family like shit. She stayed with him for years before finally leaving. Where I dip the moment I realize my boundaries are going to be disrespected/they're shit to my family. I don't stay "to work things out" if they don't see you as a person/don't respect you things are never going to work.

I think this episode showed me that I CAN be a violent person 😂😅 Don't mess with my pets, can't treat my 13 year old daughter like that, dont give my personal info to my stalker...
