  • I'm finally getting my pliers organized. I didn't care for the many designs I found online - so after some thought here's what I came up with.

    There is a nice vídeo! Its fun, informative, and gets logical to the point. I think im gonna make one like this to my wall

    Your pliers storage is one of the best I've seen, but IMHO, it could have been better.
    The horrible color: You could have used very little spray paint.
    The pvc glue: I personally would go without any glue (or purple primer), and just add a 2nd row of holes and screws.
    Either screw those tube tight to one and other, or add 1/4" - 1/2" spacing between them, for breathing room/ease of access/return.
    I do salute the simplicity of your process, using stuff mostly already around.

    What a great idea my friend. I'm sure it will work really well for you. I will try to make one for my shop that i can hang on the wall. Thanks and have a great weekend 👍

    Glad to see you got a grip on your plier storage situation. I like your painting solution! It's comforting to get organized.

      Todd Impson it's painful to start cleaning but there's an odd satisfaction to it as well.

    Glad to see another repurposer. I like your design, I need to make one and free up some drawer space. Thanks for the video, time and knowledge.

    I've been researching plier storage as well! I think I may just have to do this for my shop here in PSL! Thank you Jimmie for the clever idea!

    0:08 I've been cleaning up my shop too, got rid of 2 trucks of steel and aluminum cable, and just getting the trash out if the shop.. I can really dig this project, and it seems handy for screw drivers aswell

      tek413 thanks! But with screwdrivers be sure to make the tubes really short so you can see the tips.

    That is a brilliant solution Jim, I know what I'll be making very soon. Especially like the two size pipe idea.
    Thanks for the great video.
    Cheers

    It can be difficult to design compact but still easily accessible storage for pliers but your idea works well. I might need to re-evaluate my pliers storage after this ☺

    Going to build one of these; very easily adaptable to a french cleat hanger.

    Great solution Jim. I appreciate that you show your mistakes and still move forward. Life is never perfect.
    Doesn't it seem that pliers and hammers always seem to multiply but clamps never do? 😃

    Nice and compact solution. Put a fold down handle on it and now is portable. Add a bottom and its a tool tote. I might need to make one.

    i LIKE THE PVC IDEA. YOU CAN PAINT THE PVC WITH SPRAY PAINT CANT YOU. THAT PURPLE STUFF WOULD ACT AS A PRIMER?

    I like it Jim, Its a great idea and would be ok for screw drivers as well !! What you call vise/vice grips we call mole grips over this side of the pond ,
    don't ask me why because they don't look anything like a mole at all :) Great video and :) the end bit
    Cheers, Bram

      Bram the Wadesmill woodturner they'll be called mole grips here going forward just to confuse folks.

    I really like your idea, it have some clear advantages and maybe a few disadvantages.
    I.e. you have a good spacing between the pliers so they are easy to grip but the rack will also be a lot larger then if you had the pliers tight together. :-)

    • @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts
      @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fried Mule it's worked out well - I wish I'd added a few more tubes though...the tubes are all filled now.

    great invention. but in my opinion you could have just hit it with any one of the large number of stray Krylon spray paint cans that you probably have laying around, and had a first class looking rig.

    Great design, best I’ve seen. What length did you use for the 1” and ¾” PVC pipe?

    • @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts
      @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thomas A. Cross they are roughly 5” for the 3/4” and 6” for the 1”...seems to be ok for nearly all tools. Measure your pliers to be sure that will be long enough for your longest handle....good luck!

      Jimmie Porter At Stuart Arts Thanks so much. It’s so frustrating when so many post videos and won’t reveal simple dimensions that can save us a lot of time in duplicating the design. You are the best.

    They make clear PVC primer.

    • @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts
      @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Mossinghoff I didn't know that! I'll keep that in mind for next project...

    • @markmossinghoff8185
      @markmossinghoff8185 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to be careful. Lowe's and home Depot sell clear pvc cleaner and it's not primer. You might have to go to your local plumbing supply house to get the primer. The St Louis County plumbing code allows ONLY purple primer but the St Louis City code FORBIDS it, so suppliers here carry both. County inspectors are too lazy to get up close enough to make sure that primer was used so we have to use the purple. I think they can see it from the saloon!

    How is this pliers rack holding after a couple of months?
    Also, if the PVC tubes go all the way to the bottom, do they get filled with crap?

    • @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts
      @JimmiePorterAtStuartArts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor García it's been perfect so far. The tubes are open on the bottom, so no debris collects.
