You were literally holding a postcard of Gene Simmons character scene in the movie while you were saying, you didn’t know who Gene Simmons character was in the movie. Lol! Gene Simmons played the disc jockey who gave the demonic record to the main character.
I think buying these 4K limited editions between $59 and $70 is the new normal. Although some of the studios have been jacking up the price, currently Amazon is selling steelbooks of Deadpool & Wolverine at $79 and no signs of a price drop. I think the price is justified for Trick or Treat, you are getting 3 discs (CD), booklet, poster, lobby cards, and a bunch of featurettes with interviews and commentary. These things aren't cheap to produce especially in this economy. Now some are going to think that's too much for a movie then I suggest waiting for a standard edition, most of the time these labels will eventually release one.
It’s completely worth it in this case I think too, Deadpool and Wolverine was not, but this is, I mean we all collect boutique blu rays all the time and they are already marked up higher because of that, let alone a release like this
Blind buy for me too!!! Got it mainly for my dad, who is HUGE into 80’s Rock and movies like An American Werewolf in London! Got slip-box C since it’s the closest to the original poster, but lowkey regretting not getting A… Regardless the poster, special features, and art cards for sure make up for it! Loving the release as of now! Also, love your videos man! Always have me keeping up on my 4k’s lol! Keep it up!
I think it's the worst of the three, but I still like it and bought it. Cover B is my favorite. I like the lettering on the spine better on C, but the lettering on B does match the actual on-screen title for the Trick or Treat film.
It had a blu ray release from Germany and came in a media book with the soundtrack CD I have it. I bought cover A and B. The price was worth it. I can only imagine the price they paid for the copyrights. I seen this movie when it came out and have always loved it. I am old, about to turn 60. I wish I could have some autographs from the cast on one of these sets. Enjoy your weekend
Thank you!!! Somebody actually GETS IT! You don't have to love the movie, but you should appreciate the effort that went into making it. And, at the end of the day, nobody forced anyone to buy it. Although, apparently, A LOT of people wanted it, since it sold out in just a few days! Long story short...be thankful we're still getting physical media. Yeah, it's expensive. But honestly, what isn't right now? I've waited on this film for 20 years. It didn't bother me to spend an extra $20 for a QUALITY release. Thanks for an honest review!
We can appreciate the effort brother, but the price for a 4kBLURAY at $70 is still steep. For instance, you can pay $70, but many others can’t, and they also appreciate and love the movie. It’s not even about being forced or not. Hopefully they think about a standard release for those other fans who couldn’t afford it.
@@jessb5657 Major studio 4K releases are now $30-$40. That's for a standard release. Gene Simmons was the DJ that gave Eddie the record. Not sure how you missed him. 03. The old dvd was completely bare bones. I went with slipcase version C.
First of all, thank you Ken for mentioning this a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea it was coming out. I own the dvd and remember watching it last year thinking I'd love a blu ray with some extras. The dvd is very bare bones. This movie means a lot to those of us who were teenage metalheads when it came out. Those of us who grew up in small towns could identify with Eddie as we were made fun of being into heavy metal. I graduated in 1984 and as far as i know , the only one at my high school into Metallica and Slayer so when this came out 2 years later ,i couldnt wait to see it. I still didnt have my driver's license so my dad took me to the theater and picked me up when it was over. My copy arrived today here in Australia, from Diabolik. I ordered B cover, but they sent me a C cover. Anyway, just happy to have any copy of this release.
I got cover C. It's my favorite of the three (and the first to sell out). Charles Martin Smith did a solid directing job, and you can really feel that same style on the Buffy pilot.
This is one of the best releases of the year. The price is fine considering how long it’s taken to get it on the superior format. I would have paid double for it. I have cover C, because that has the original trick or treat logo. The 5.1 soundtrack is great.
Great to hear you like it. It's a gem. Especially knowing the stories and making of as you said. Also the soundtrack, making a whole band just for this. It's nice not only for the horror/slasher fans, but a good rock/music movie. I don't mind blind buying, even if I don't do it for financial reasons, what's a bummer for me is resellers/scalpers. I regretted paying 74 bucks for this (after shipping)...until I had it in my hands. As a young teen headbanger, this was one of my favorite movies and I never dreamed it would get such a loving and respectful Deluxe treatment like this. And it's maybe one of the best releases of the year. And the great thing is, it totally holds up as a fun little time capsule of 80's horror with heavy metal front and center. It's not perfect by any means but it's much better than the poor treatment it's received on home video before now would suggest.

My brother Ken this is from 1986 with a low-budget horror movie the transfer is not going to be this amazing whatever you're thinking it's going to be but for what it was this is a 10 out of 10 transfer buddy
I like to blind buy too for the same reasons but $70 is too damn much for that. Especially knowing that it’s already gone now…I’ll wait for Synapse to put a steelbook out lol. I’d be shocked if they didn’t do something like that with it, at least a standard release. It seems like something that doesn’t really warrant this kind of release unless you grew up with it which I did not.
I believe it was Anchor Bay that announced a special edition DVD of Trick or Treat many years ago, it was even listed in their catalog, but it never came out. I heard it had something to do with the soundtrack rights but who really knows. The budget DVD from the early 2000s was taken I believe from a full frame 1/2 inch video master with a stereo soundtrack. You could even see the boom mic a few times because it was open matte for VHS and TV I love the movie so I forked over the $70 even though I already have a one sheet and the soundtrack. I would not have paid that much for a blind buy personally. Cheers Ken!
I have a 7.1 surround sound system with Dolby Atmos even though this is not in Dolby Atmos it does send up the frequencies to the upper channels and this soundtrack sounded amazing and 5.1 remember people we came from the 2.0 bad stereo from 2002
This is my favorite movie of all time I saw in the theater like six times when I was 18 years old this was my white whale of 4K releases I bought cover A and I bought cover B
I watched it a decade ago. I can barely remember it but i think i liked it. 70 bucks its too freaking much. Im glad they'll do standard. I dont get why Synapse didnt do boxsets for Demons or Susperia. That i would pay up.
Is the Fastway After Midnight music video on both the blu ray and the 4K disc or is it only included in the 4K disc. The music video is unavailable here in Australia because the music video has scenes from the movie, so it is blocked for “licensing” reasons. I utterly LOVED this movie back in the day, and the Fastway soundtrack is a big part of my late teens (showing my age)
It is worth it because the standard will be 49.99 with a slip cover without anything extra from Synapse in 2025, so for almost $20.00 more, you get the doubke sided poster, beautiful art cards an awesome book and a great 80's soundtrack CD..... yes, it was worth it.... Yiu should sell it to someone who missed out on your channel since you dont love it.....
Ken is this the same as the recent Arrow release? 70 Dollars is too much, how many versions of 1 film do you need, do you ever think about the space they take up, i believe its called Double Dipping, if im wrong please say, must say your spending sometimes is somewhat ecvessive.
Having said the good things earlier, the price is steep but compared to steelbooks you get a lot more at least. Steelbooks I think are massively overrated just for the sake of being Steelbooks.
I think those people probably have a very similar situation to mine. Growing up in a small town being ostracized for being a metalhead, this movie spoke to me. It's always held a special place for me because of that.
The point is you spent 70 dollars on a movie you were not entirely happy with, Buy stuff from whatever label cos the movie is worth it. As you can see by the comments below the price is an issue , makes you wonder who are their fans, i agree with the person who said i want it 20- 30 Dollars, Ken do fans really want a massive box set, i doubt it, we are not made of it, why not do several editions ? They brought this out for 70 Dollars not thinking a dot if this is a popular film, some labels need to wake up, This is a indie film and does not deserve this kind of treatment, Definetley no Avatar or The Exocist, look at the recent Batman Collectors Editions |£40-45 and no waste . Also look at your comments to see whos interested in this video, cos im qorried WHO YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR!
Why produce outside the U.S. from the start? Studios will be forced to come back. Hopefully better quality controll. Up here in Scandinavia we still produce our movies.
@@cameroncloutier actually im not. Historically tariffs have brought the price of goods down for consumers. But economics doesn’t seem like your strong suit
You must have some extra sensory perception in your hands there, Ken, cause I have never felt anything other than the case is embossed or not when I pull it out of its shipping wrap. No offence meant. Good on you if you can feel the passion that went into a movie. I kinda wish I had that ability!
You are so funny Ken with the movie was not that great how old are you like 30 years old I was born in 1968 I saw this movie 10 times in the theater when I was 18 that's rock and roll brother you're late to the game
Blind buying is what is killing physical media collecting and is allowing these companies to drive up the prices. Stuff like this is made for the true fans of the films, not some dude thats just gonna have it collecting dust smh
Not a great film but a fun cheesy film of its time. Its worth its price base on all the work Synapse put into it. Especially obtain the music rights from Sony was probably very expensive. Only for the hardcore fans, wouldnt recommend a blind buy. Over all nice work from Synapse.
All 3 versions sold out on Diabolic soon as pre orders were announced. Crank your Home Theater 2 channel tower speaker system or......pump your lil sound bar😂. Ozzy Osborne makes an appearance and it got amazing Hard Rock 🎸 soundtrack. The concept of this film is special and it unique because it mixes Shock Rock Hair Metal with horror. Understand that In 80s bands like W.A.S.P, early Motley Crue, Ozzy, were Shock Rock and labelled as SATANIC by mass media. They would've made more money if they made more copies available. Let down is no Audio restoration??? ......the soundtrack the best thing going in the film.
I fell asleep at the kid eating the boys and candy, my girl made it all the way to the end she told me it sucked we got the Collector's Edition for 32 bucks
It's easy to be disappointed when there is so much hype over it. For me, I grew up with it. Watched it many times on VHS.
Agreed. I watched this in the theaters at the time it came out, and thought it was just alright back then

Never seen this movie don’t really care, tubi will have the 4k rip soon I’ll check it out.
Ken is this the same as the recent Arrow release?
70 Dollars is too much, how many versions of 1 film do you need, do you ever think about the space they take up, i believe its called Double Dipping, if im wrong please say, must say your spending sometimes is somewhat ecvessive.
"Gonna Drive MY LoNG Steel MissILe Down On Your Love Channel...Deep Deep You'll Beg For More. Raging Hell, and Serpents ScORE!"
Having said the good things earlier, the price is steep but compared to steelbooks you get a lot more at least.
Steelbooks I think are massively overrated just for the sake of being Steelbooks.
Gene is on the one art card.. he was tge DJ that gave him the record of Sammi that wasn't released yet...
It’s all sold out!!!!
Sounds like a dud never even heard of this film 😂
Im glad I own it and I thought it was a good movie. First time watch for me. But damn some people were acting like this is the movie of the century.
I think those people probably have a very similar situation to mine. Growing up in a small town being ostracized for being a metalhead, this movie spoke to me. It's always held a special place for me because of that.
Blind buys are great. Unfortunately Trick or Treat isn´t. Duck and cover. 🙈 But I´m sure the edition is nevertheless worth owning. 😉
Did you get any critorian releases?
I love the movie, But $70us $120au no way...
You could tell he hated it. He was trying so hard not to shit on it lol
YES! $72 WAS WORTH IT!
TRICK OR TREAT ROCKS!!!! I did my unboxing and it’s amazing! I have cover A. Let’s go!!!
I work in the movie theaters in the 1980's and have never heard of it. This was not a first run movie. Where was this movie shown?
Ken just on Trick or Treat. 👍
Batman or Avatar 😂😂 this film is definitely not for you...
Ken, how the hell did you miss Gene Simmons?
66 crush…
NO REGERTS K-LEVS 😂 😂 😂
I rented this in the 1980s on vhs. It was pretty bad then…
Never seen this movie
If the Tariffs being planned come to fruition next year, most of the titles released by boutique labels will be $70-$120. Plan accordingly.
Not how it works
@@jeffcunningham0389I completely agree with you.
Why produce outside the U.S. from the start? Studios will be forced to come back. Hopefully better quality controll. Up here in Scandinavia we still produce our movies.
@@jeffcunningham0389 You are in for a rude awakening if they happen.
I kinda wish I had that ability!
meh...give me a standard release under $20 dollars and I'll bite.
Off topic but what can I use for steelbook protection? Is there slip covers to buy anywhere?
You are so funny Ken with the movie was not that great how old are you like 30 years old I was born in 1968 I saw this movie 10 times in the theater when I was 18 that's rock and roll brother you're late to the game
Blind buying is what is killing physical media collecting and is allowing these companies to drive up the prices. Stuff like this is made for the true fans of the films, not some dude thats just gonna have it collecting dust smh
The true fans got it in the first hour.
@@midlevelmedia you right, but that still doesn't change the first part of what I commented lol
@ Well the first part was pretty ridiculous, so…
@@midlevelmedia if anything I've said was ridiculous you wouldn't be replying so...
@@9teen96OG I actually only reply to ridiculous comments. 🤪
The DVD was Bare Bones piece of shit full frame 4 x 3 2.0 garbage
There is NO WAY in hell blind buy a no name horror flick like that... 5 bucks used sure..... Bubba Ho Temp taught you NOTHING!
You ain’t getting this for 5 bucks even if it’s used and this is waaaay better than Ho-Tep.
Looks like he can probably sell it for more than he bought it if he doesn't like it. People these days will pay anything the studios ask 🤣
I fell asleep at the kid eating the boys and candy, my girl made it all the way to the end she told me it sucked we got the Collector's Edition for 32 bucks
70 bucks for that film. Its junk. Rubbish film
Ebay from 200.00 to 500.00....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I checks synapse about 20 mins ago and its gone
He probably filmed this at least 4 days ago
