I have been a Sutherland tragic since age 11 am now 75. First heard hear in the Norma extract from Art of the Prima Donna recording. BUT imho this concert is nothing but shattering. All artists are brilliant, Bonynge out does himself but Sutherland is out of this world. Thank god for live performances.
Thanks so much for this version. Sutherland was still in superb voice for this Lucia - huge and opulent with the amazing agility and trills and magnificent musicality. I was so lucky to catch a few of her stunning farewell London Lucias at Covent Garden in 1985 with the great Carlo Bergonzi.
Al cumplirse 13 años desde que volo para qie sabe a que lugar... siempre presenete con su vocalismo inreprochable!! cada dia que la escucho me emociona mas.Gracias por es posteo
Wow!! This recording is great. I loved the cast. 1979 was a really nice year vocally for Joan Sutherland, her voice was still agile but gigantic. She just overpowers all choir and orchestra like it was the easiest thing to do, 1:17:12 the power and beauty of her voice and the end of the sextet is unbelievable

Ulric Cold was the wonderful Sarastro in the Bergman Magic Flute film.
