Replaying “Hexyz Force” again right now actually! Love the PSP for JRPG’s! “Valkyria Chronicles 2” is good, but I personally feel “VC 3” is one of the best in the series and highly recommend playing the fan-translation!
The PSP has SO MUCH to work with for JRPGs and wow does this video prove that. Many of which I did not play due to my late adoption of handheld JRPGs. I wonder if we see anything done again with the Gagharv trilogy but I would guess not. Black Rock, Tales of the World and Popolocrois are games I need to try out amongst others. Thanks Erick, phenomenal job here!
a lot of the PSP's original RPGs (ie. not ports) are japan exclusive, which is quite ironic. however, a lot of them have fortunately been fan translated. might be worth doing a list on those at some point.
I know people bitch about P3P not having the full walk around in town, but given that there wasn't a lot to do when walking around and only one fast travel point I will definitely take it. Walking around P3 is tedious. Playing P3P will literally save you 5-10 hours of watching your character endlessly walking around.
I will always be glad to see any Dept Heaven games. Its definitely my favorite video game franchise. I will always say that Knights in the Nightmare is their best game while Yggdra Union is the best rpg and my favorite.
Gurumin is my favorite game on this list. Don’t overlook it! It’s a charming and fun little action RPG with great gameplay, wacky characters, and a rockin’ soundtrack. Made by some of the same team from the Y’s series.
I don't even think I've played 50 RPGs total, let alone on a single console, LET ALONE something as marginal as the PSP. This guy definitely deserves his rpg nerd cred.
thanks for making this video, dont get me wrong i love the persona games (especially one and both parts of two) but there are so many great JRPGs on the little system
15:07 it's really not so hard when you understand how it works: you can only equip armor and rings and in this rings you put gems that are (almost) the only way to learn spells and abilities and If you complete a mission faster or met certain conditions you can get a bonus of exp and money
Finally playing through them now and I can see what you mean! What an incredible story with amazing lore. Already my favorite and I haven't even played them all ;P
I was informed (by Erik actually) CGS was a Korean rpg, so didn’t make the list. As an individual who’s been playing (j)rpgs for the past 30 years, however, I deeeeply feel obligated to state CGS is one of the most satisfying old school traditional turnbased rpgs. . .on the psp. The leveling system is refreshingly simplistic, the battle system (especially once you master the ‘hidden presses’ is always enjoyable, and the characters are lovely. Not gonna lie…I think it’s the best rpg on psp. . .but yes, Korean.
Awesome video. Don't forget about the god eater series on the psp! And phantasy start infinite was fan translated, i know you didn't include fan translations in the list but just fyi!
Star Ocean is easily one of my favorites, the 2nd game is considered the best but the first game will always have a place in my heart since i played the SNES version before.
Top 50 out of 70 isn't that just like listing the games? Feel like it could a been like top 20 or something instead of just listing almost every jrpg on the console 😂
Rockshooter… I could not actually find that game at the time when I wanted to get it. One of the few psp rpgs I don’t have. That and half minute hero and dragoneers aria…
There’s a reason it’s my fave handheld of all time. Working on a nice collection of Western releases (no shit games sports games obviously!) I have most of these. Most expensive was Hexys Force Brand New sealed a mere £200.01 Yes I’m crazy. I’m savouring it and waiting for the moment to peel that seal and dive into the game. I’ve saved myself on Lunar though I was looking at £100 as new, but I picked up the DS version for only £20 complete in box. (Oh yeah I’m loving my new DS - discovering some awesome games from when my nose was in my first psp)
star ocean feels like it was inspired by dragon ball manga which was inspired by the journey to the west novel a race full of human-like species with monkey tails
Hey Eric, is P3P better than P4G? Asking out of curiosity as I never played P3P but got around 20h in P4G and while I like the story the dungeons are a bit tedious especially because of enemy levels. I remember being proud of myself when I killed a boss being two or three lvls low and then I'm in the next dungeon where enemies are 10 lvls ahead. It made me put the game away but I intend to get back to it.
No Wild Arms XF?! Brutal! Anyway, don't listen to this guy. It has many fine points, such as a hexagonal grid, and some really clever mix and match skills and job classes. Some good challenging levels. My main criticisms of it would be grinding to get skills and most of it is too easy. But it would still be in my top ten for the system. Maybe, keep a few save states. One level I remember I only won by the skin of my teeth because I barely had the skills that were required.
I feel like random order with so many games listed basically gives me no information about which ones are interesting. I don't want to be to harsh, but it just seems meaningless. Loved the channel other than this!
A shame better version of Lord of Arcana(Lord of Apocalypse) was never officially translated and the patch seems to be abandoned, it seems to have interesting plot, but hey, not unplayable with the current patch so there's that. Arcana is just too...slow and clunky compared to Apocalypse.

So glad there's a psp emulator for android because I bought a yoga tab 13 to "do work" but mostly use it as a psp and ds emulator
That victory theme at the end.. so much nostalgia
Last Ranker is great as well, but there is only a fan translation which covers the main story not the side stuff. Great Game
No tenía idea de que psp tiene tantos juegos Jrpg.
Muchas gracias por tu buen trabajo.
I play a lot of the games on the list but Jean D Arc was my favourite out of them all. The only game that I managed to 100%.

Nayuta Kiseki : Endless Trails....definitely one of the best JRPG for PSP. Another great game from Falcom
