John didn't make many remakes but he totally smashed this. His angst and passion just smack you right in the face. I miss him greatly but he will always be with us.
A lot of the 60's British bands owe their careers to black American artists from the 50's and 60's that sang and played blues and R&B and jazz... including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, etc... John Lennon was a fan of the Ben E. King song and covered it in his lifetime... In the early 60's, these iconic British bands used to open for American artists like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley... when they came to tour the UK.

Lennon's NO. 9 Dream is just magical and Mind Games is powerful, both songs are beautiful and when I hear them I have to stop what I'm doing and JUST LISTEN....
John Lennon was a really humble man. A friend of mine is the founder member of a Brazilian fanclub of The Beatles, called Revolution, that was found in the 60's. He met John in in NYC in 1980, he stood in front of Dakota building, and gave the brazilian version of the LP "A Hard Day's Night" to the gatekeeper, to give to John. On the other day he saw John and said: "Hi, I gave the LP to you". They chatted for, 10/15 minutes and John told that he would make a World Tour in 1981. After it, he also said: "When I come back from the tour, I will call the other 3, and let's see what we can do." He also asked him which Beatles song he liked the most. He said he didn't have a specific one. But he kept insisting. He said that the first Beatles song he had heard was "She Loves You". And he asked why: "No reason". After about 10, 15 days (John had the address card) a gold record of "She Loves You" arrived at the hotel with a note from Fred Seaman, John's secretary: "Marco, John asked me to send you this record because it will be better in your hands than in his."

John had so many iconic songs, and this is one of them (though probably not as iconic as Ben E. King's). "Watching the Wheels" is another, and I highly recommend it.

Best voice in rock. So much soul. I remember seeing his interview with Bob Harris in 1975 here in the UK when this first aired. He even warmed to the idea of a Beatles reunion. So tragic.
As the proud parents of a baby boy I recommend you listen to his song Beautifull Boy. The line where he sings " Life is what happens to you while you're making other plans " will break your heart. He wrote and recorded as a song of love to his young son only months before he was murdered.
After they reacted to "Beautiful Boy", they actually received a message from Yoko herself, congratulating them on Lucas' birth, as well as thanking them for reacting to John's song! it's mentioned on one of their reaction videos, but I couldn't tell you which one. ✌💙✌
Amber is such a beautiful spirit with such a captivating glow and aura about her -- and she's looking better than ever too. You are both such a perfect and classy couple. It's nice to look up to people who are much younger, especially with all that today's generation has to deal with.
This was included on an album he released in 1975. The album is simply called 'Rock and Roll'. It is a cover album of songs from the 1950s and 60s. Super fun to hear his take on some great oldies.
This album came about because of the “Here come old flattop” line from “Come Together,” which John lifted from Chuck Berry’s “You Can’t Catch Me.” Lennon was sued and had to record three cover songs from rights owner Morris Levy’s catalog. Love this whole album!
The album was released in 1975. It should have been released in 1973, but the producer Phil Spector disappeared with the tapes and kept them for 18 months. He was at his most paranoid at this time. He even phoned John Lennon during this time In a conspiratorial state of mind fearing that Richard Nixon and the CIA were out to get him. Eventually the tapes were returned and John Lennon finished recording the album. If you notice John Lennon winking at the beginning of the film, this is because he was being interviewed by Bob Harris of the BBC 2 music programme The Old Grey Whistle Test. John Lennon invited him to stay while the track was being recorded and gave a wink to the viewers.
This version of ‘Stand By Me’ came out in the early to mid 70’s (not sure of the exact year) on Lennon’s solo album called ‘Rock and Roll’. It’s all of the songs that The Beatles, and The Silver Beatles before, The Quarrymen before them played when Lennon and rest of the lads were teens. So this was a very sentimental album for John.
Looking forward to the day you two discover and present John Lennon's song "Mother". Probably the most tragic song ever made by John (or anybody else).
"Stand by Me" was written by Ben E. King. Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller. It was originally released by King in May 1961 and reached No. 4 on the Billboard R&B charts. The song, according to King, was inspired by Psalm 46.
Please consider reacting to John's first son, Julian, who's also a recording artist & gained a whirlwind of popularity in the mid 80s. His biggest hit made it to #5 in 1985 *Too Late For Goodbyes*
What makes Lennon’s cover so perfect is that he recorded it during a painful time in his life, the so-called Lost Weekend. Separated from Yoko, drinking/taking drugs heavily and apparently quite miserable, so you really hear the pain and emotion in the way he ‘screams’ the vocal - he means it, he wants help, be it from Yoko, his sort of girlfriend May Pang (weird relationship!) or love from the audience … as he wasn’t selling too well, either. You can also see his trademark defensive humour at play in the performance, taken from the British ‘Old Grey Whistle Test’ programme (he also did a great performance of Slippin’ and Slidin’) and his insecurities at the bum notes he hits singling, “tumble and fall”. Such a complicated man, so interesting and, not perfect, but my favourite artist ever!! ❤
Check out the audio version of “In My Life” by the Beatles. It’s from the Rubber Soul album (1965). It’s a great tribute to John Lennon’s mother and other lost loved ones. It’s beautiful!
I think this was their first real Gem. Besides some isolated others like Hard Days Night and Yesterday. But to me, that marked the beginning of their golden era
I had the pleasure of seeing Julian Lennon's show at New York's Beacon Theater on April 9, 1985 and he performed a beautiful and emotional version of Stand By Me, just blocks from John and Yoko's home at the Dakota. God bless the life of John Lennon.
From his "Rock & Roll" lp when he did some of the oldies that he loved so much. Original by Ben E. King, but this an awesome cover & was a huge hit. John was a very free spirit, fun & witty.
This song comes from what I consider one of Lennon's best post-Beatles albums. I bought it when it first came out, in vinyl, of course. If you want to top off Black History Month by learning a little about a treasured old school American artist - an original Woodstock performer - look up music by one of my idols: the late Richie Havens. He also covered a Beatles song or two, but his folk rock is truly iconic.
Guitar work by Norman Ok native, and Native American, Jesse Ed Davis, one of the more iconic yet little known guitarists, Jesse Ed's slide was the inspiration for Duane Allman to learn slide
Yes, I mentioned Jesse Ed before. Delighted to find out this was more of his work. Previous Lennon collaborators on the track include Klaus Voorman on the bass and Jim Keltner on the drums.
The whole album that this came from is amazing. You all should give it a listen, even if you don't film a reaction of it. My other favorite from it is "You Can't Catch Me", one of my all-time Lennon favorites.
He sings the hell out of it and does it well. slippin and sliddin is a remake of johns that is an absolute blast and the video shows alot of his personality i love it
Ben E King's version is such a classic that you think no one should even try to cover it. But then I heard John's version and I just love it so much. Another song like that is "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston. It was kind of sad that so many people thought it originated with Whitney. Dolly handled it with class. She could have garnered a lot of publicity for herself by making more of the public aware that she wrote it. I feel like she took a step back and just let Whitney shine. It's fun seeing the reactions to finding Dolly's version. Just saw a a great duet you should check out. Olivia Newton John singing "Jolene" with Dolly Parton. From the clip, it sounds like Olivia may have done a duets project. May find some other treasures by going down that rabbit hole.
John’s voice on twist and shout from the Beatles first album is also incredible, you should check that out too among others . Instant Karma is also a great Lennon number .
Thanks a lot having reacted to this bewitching rendition of one of the greatest song ever. Love John's cover with its crazy arrangements due to the huge Phil Spector. On the same album with only covers, we can find "Sweet little sixteen" (Chuck Berry), "Peggy Sue"(Buddy Holly), "Be bop a lula"(Gene Vincent), "Ain't that a shame" (Fats Domino)" etc.
This is from the late 73 thru late 74 sessions of what would become the John Lennon Rock N Roll album when he was separated from Yoko for 18 months and would be released in February of 1975 and was the last work he did before reuniting with Yoko and having Sean and went into a 6 year sabbatical from the business. Give a listen to outtakes from these sessions of John covering Angel Baby and The Ronnettes song Be My Baby. Be My Baby really pulls on your heart strings.
Love this song and John Lennon 's voice, so it goes without saying that I love this version of the song. Thank you Jay and Amber for doing this reaction. There is a young woman named Skylar Grey who did a cover of Stand By Me, could you please do a reaction to it.
The engineer would double his vocals that's what gives him that echoey sound, so rad! His raspy voice is so Elvis Presley rock n roll sounding ❤❤❤ I'm glad you guys loved this reaction vids you'd to be silly for me but it's nice to see people hear it for the first time its like I can hear it for the first time. Everyone gives John shit but he really did love yoko ❤
There's one more version of this great song you need to hear to complete your "Stand By Me" journey. It's put together by Playing For Change and combines performances by numerous artists around the world, starting with the unforgettable Grandpa Elliott. I guarantee that you'll love it.
You should check out Julian Lennon, John's son from his first marriage and the subject of the song Hey Jude. His biggest song is It's Much Too Late For Goodbye.
I love John Lennon, and I think he was a musical genius. I didn't care for this remake. I bought a tape of his songs that came out in 1986, which had this song. You really should listen to "Jealous Guy." That's the song I couldn't live without when it got some airplay back then.
This is a track on John's "Rock 'n' Roll" album which is all covers of songs he liked - there was also a lawsuit component. It was produced by Phil Spector, if you don't know his legacy you should definitely look it up.
Great song reaction you two! 😊 I had no idea that John Lennon did a cover for this song. This is one of my favorite Ben E. King songs. Another beautiful cover of this song that you both might enjoy, and that I highly recommend, is sung by the country music legend Mickey Gilley(RIP always). It's from the "Urban Cowboy" movie soundtrack. Also highly recommend that movie as well. Looking forward to the next music and movie reactions. 😊
This is from a whole album John made of just covers giving praise to the generations he grew up on and was inspired by. He also told the producer *cough* Phil Spector that he didn’t want to worry about writing music or putting the music together but just being a good ol rhythm guitarist and rock n roll singer.
This is from his album Rock’n’roll, featuring only covers of songs John loved. The album had a troubled path to completion, since the producer, Phil Spector, was in the midst of some sort of paranoid mental breakdown: At a late stage, he took the master tapes and refused to part with them. It wasn’t until much later that John was able to retrieve the tapes and finish the album. The irony of the video is John was dating May Pang at the time, during what he later referred to as his ”lost weekend”, but really wasn’t any different than any other relationship. (He and Yoko were separated: Yoko had thrown him out, which winded up being an 18 month pause in their marriage, between mid-1973 to early 1975).
John didn't make many remakes but he totally smashed this. His angst and passion just smack you right in the face. I miss him greatly but he will always be with us.
Agreed. And my favorite song from this album of oldies he did. It’s a good album anyways. But this is my favorite from it.
John did some covers with the eagles.
The album this is from, Rock'n'roll, is a covers only album. I think he made most of those songs justice. If nothing else, he had the voice for it.
Amen.
He did an entire album called Rock and Roll of nothing but covers.

I never knew John Lennon covered this song and straight off the top I went to my playlist .
Yes, John had a 1970s album named Rock and Roll . It was All Pre-Beatles 50s Oldies! Very Good Buy It ! 🤘🔥👍❤️
Thank you for this one! This was my first time hearing John Lennon singing Stand By Me.
John Lennon .....What can you say a ICON !! Imagine the music he would be making if he was still alive R.I.P. John , Gone way to soon!
..POS Lennon was an admitted wife beater. he was a coward punk.
This was one of my favorite remakes by John Lennon he only did a few this was really good, take care y'all
Definitely worth hearing more John.
There's one more version of this great song you need to hear to complete your "Stand By Me" journey. It's put together by Playing For Change and combines performances by numerous artists around the world, starting with the unforgettable Grandpa Elliott. I guarantee that you'll love it.
I think this must be so comforting for Yoko to be able to watch this video whenever she wants to as it is such a testament to their love.
This whole album was John giving respect to the artists who influenced his own music. His phrasing here does give a deeper meaning to the lyrics ✌️
Eff the woman beater. glad he got his karma on the sidewalk.
@@jokes881Wow !
John sings the hell out of it. His voice is just perfect.
He sure loved Yoko. I’m glad they found each other!💜
This is a track on John's "Rock 'n' Roll" album which is all covers of songs he liked - there was also a lawsuit component. It was produced by Phil Spector, if you don't know his legacy you should definitely look it up.
🌈🌻☮This is SO Cool... Never knew he did this; and he freakin' Nailed it.. Great Version
(Wasn't he in "another" Band back in the 60's?)
STARTING OVER WAS ONE OF JOHNS LAST 🎵 SONGS AND SO WORTH LISTENING TO AS ITS CLASSIC LENNON.
Great song reaction you two! 😊
I had no idea that John Lennon did a cover for this song.
John's album Rock & Roll was all covers of old classic songs. It's all worth a listen.
Love this version by Lennon
Very missed.guy
I have always loved this cover.
One of the greatest rock n roll singers of all time, he learned from the greatest
This is from a whole album John made of just covers giving praise to the generations he grew up on and was inspired by. He also told the producer *cough* Phil Spector that he didn’t want to worry about writing music or putting the music together but just being a good ol rhythm guitarist and rock n roll singer.
Exquisite and powerful version by Mr John Lennon. 🙂
Regards from Chile.
You'll love "I'm losing you" from John.
"JUST LIKE STARTING OVER" GOOD ONE!!😍😍😍
