I had a very similar read of this story as you. People got too concerned about the Canon of the story and didn't judge the story on its own. The moment where Batman and Joe Chill embrace was pretty beautifully done. Since you told me you want to hear my favorite Joker story, got to give it up for Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Batman TAS is best Joker and that movie gave us an amazing tale of trauma and scars
That moment with Batman and Joe Chill was beautiful!! Batman’s compassion is his real superpower. I personally don’t think the joker really planned that I think he was just trying to rob Batman of that moment. But ether way it doesn’t matter. Batman forgave him.
@@TBATB The entire Snyder Capullo run, The Long Halloween is incredible, Batman & Joker the deadly duo, the current Batman/superman words finest run is super fun! I enjoyed most of no man’s land too!
I agree. I struggle to think of a book with better art. The story really grew on me when I re-read it. I think it was more symbolic and people took it very literal.
The Three Jokers actually made me appreciate the Killing Joke a lot more. Because the Joker's origin story was always my least favorite part of the Killing Joke (and how Barbara was fridged). Since the point of it was that he was just a normal guy who was down on his luck, but then it gets pretty convoluted and forced with how he is roped into doing this crime and made to wear the red hood for a pretty silly reason. And all while he doesn't even have any motivation to do it because his wife and unborn child supposedly died, so he doesn't need the money to provide for them anymore. But in Three Jokers it is retconned that his wife and unborn child didn't actually die, she just faked their deaths to escape his abuse. So he's not a sympathetic guy which makes it more believable he goes through with breaking into Ace Chemicals. And him losing his wife and child, what is part of why he eventually loses his mind, is simply the consequences of his own actions. I love that change.
I personally am not a fan of The Joker. Yes, he is meant to be an agent of chaos, but I have a thing about abusers in relationships. He and Harley were toxic together, and he was an abuser. Outside of that, as a character, he can be fun to explore. I don't have many problems with this story. I do think that Johns was reaching with his desire to have Jason fall for Barbara. While shared trauma can being people together, it does not make sense for either character. It makes less sense than Timm's desire to have Bruce and Barbara together, which also made no sense. Lol Great review, as always! I am glad your Absolute Collection continues to grow!
I think the argument you're making is good. I will say I disagree. I think Grant Morrisons explanation for how the joker changes is better. I don't remember the issue but it's in Batman By Morrison omnibus 1.
Na bruh, its just a bullshit story that backs up the killing Joke origin which imo is weak compared to some other potential origins he could have. Him being a former mob hitman or even an immortal force of chaos possibly dating back to the times of Vandal Savage are much more interesting. Three Jokers was a waste of time considering all the hype and lead up to the story.
I understand and I can relate to your opinion. In my opinion I think this book was trying to say all interpretations and potential origins for the joker are equal valid. I think choker being a Pennywise like immortal being is also super interesting. I think this book was just a response to the killing joke.
@TBATB I can dig it. I was just bummed because I felt like the story had an opportunity to push the Joker's character forward a bit more instead of opting to keep him stagnant via the Killing Joke tie-in. I'm curious about ur thoughts of the White Knight Joker. To me I believe that the whole duel personality for Joker thing should be made a status quo for an entire comic run as it would not only heavily justify Batman's unwillingness to kill Joker but also highlight his desire to eventually rehabilitate most if not all of his villains. Thanks for the video and the reply. Keep doing ur thing👍🏾👍🏾

The art is unreal! The story is great if you read it with an open mind

I think you hit the nail on the head!
So glad to hear this story talked about in a positive way. Love your passion!

All of those feeling are incredibly valid.
#gaggyforever i love this comic series so much
Heck yeah!!!!
It is ok
That’s fair! What was one think you liked about it and one thing you didn’t like about it?

Are you talking about the super sane theory? That’s he’s on a higher place of consciousness and reacts and builds his persona to the world?
