MJ is respectable in how he overcame things... and he didn't shift blame, he didn't point fingers, he didn't have a victim mentality.... he pushed himself and others to achieve greatness. I think that's why his teammates don't say anything bad, because they understood where he was coming from beyond his character flaws.
and he never threw any teammates under the bus in front of the media.
Very important statement. Jordan critics these days always point the finger , claiming 1-9, even though that 1-9 came at the beginning of his career and he overcame it. I find that much more respectable than winning, losing, winning, losing and having a career that is a rollercoaster.. Nobody can claim to be on a consistent growth pattern except Jordan. Not even Kareem. I won't even mention Lebron, because most of his team accomplishments are finals participation awards (silver medals), oh an a bronze in his first olympics.
On a tangent though, Jordan did lead a team of college olympic players to beat NBA hall of famers. Had he not been in a cocaine circus bus team, he would have achieved more, at a faster rate.

Was telling my wife that. I LOVE seeing his "human" side, like when he broke down talking about pushing his teamates and called for a break. Like, it actually does hurt him that people think he was mean. You could see it in his eyes, he approached teamates like a father figure - the "you might think I'm mean, but I'm just trying to push you to be all that I know you can be" mentality.

"Air Jordan" is a brand that stood the test of time for 35 years already..MJ is one of the most well known athletes ever..This guy became a billionaire with his brand..to my generation he is some kind of a sports God (up there with Maradona to us soccer lovers!)..He is the all time sports legend if one is to take all these factors into consideration!

I am in a leadership position in education. This segment has resonated with me so much. Great take aways. You have certain leadership skills that shine to my eyes. You know how to convince or influence people with your "assertive, aggressive, and charming character" We may throw a little bit of sarcasm in there too. Sense of humor mixed with intelligence appears to be dominant at times. We have seen that you are emotional too from your other videos. These are "good to have traits." To me, you demonstrate some parts of Michael's mindset too. That may be why you get to choose where you are going for dinner.

I have to say Episode 5-8 are the high points of this documentary. You really do get to see the absolute best of the mentality of Michael Jordan
The media presents us with all opinions from all sides. We can pick and choose witch side we want to listen to at any given moment. We shouldn't be upset that there is always some portion of the media that is presenting an argument counter to our own opinion. We should instead be happy that there is somebody out there sharing our opinion on whatever issue is up for discussion.

The other half of changing the sport for MJ is how so many tried to copy his style and by happenstance created the defensive era of late 90's to late 2000s with almost every guard trying to inefficiently shoot mid range jumpers. He kinda recreated the physical Pistons if you think about it.
The defensive era really started with the Pistons in the late 80's. They had success against the Bulls with their overly physical style of defense, which was later copied by Pat Riley's Knicks of the early 90's. The Knicks had the most success against the championship year Bulls by pushing them to 7 games in the playoffs at one time. The Knicks' physical defensive style was then copied by the Pacers and to a lesser extent the Miami Heat. The league then became overly defensive overall in the late 90's through to the mid 2000's. In MJ's absence, the league started to change the rules to make it easier for perimeter players to score. Major rule changes included removing hand-checking and implementing the defensive three second rule so that rim protectors could no longer camp out in the paint and protect the rim. All of these rule changes were a response to the fact that other perimeter players could not replicate what MJ was able to do on the floor, so they had to weaken the defensive rules to make it easier for them to score.

The difference between Jordan and other players making deals with brands, is that Jordan essentially is a part of Nike. Other guys will make deals for a time with companies and eventually have nothing to do with the companies any more. Jordan will be a part of Nike forever.

People also like things just being genuine. In a world where so many people back off on things and play it safe about everything for fear of people getting mad seeing an MJ who just owns what he did and the mentality he had and explains why he thought that way and has such passion for his competitive fire is just a level of genuine that has become almost non existent in todays world. Things of a prior age that may haven been seen more negatively are more embraced in a modern culture where people won’t hold strong to who they truly are all for fear of perception. And the final nail is that MJ may have been tough and demanded a lot but he demanded the same or more of himself and you hear that from every single player or coach he ever had. You never hear that he didn’t bring it. Every one of them points out that he was tough but that he brought it every single time and that he didn’t expect anything from somebody that he didn’t expect for himself. That’s a major key as well.
