Thank you Lexi for being so honest and outspoken about the brands and products that you don’t like. I think you have the most honest channel that is one of the reasons why I watch you. Most of other makeup influencers and particularly some with over 200k followers don’t come forward like you do and they pretend like they like every product from these brands that they try.
Well, they either want to get free PR products or they are paid to say those products are nice when they are not. That’s why I love Lexi and always listen to her.
Love how straightforward your approach is and lacking in unnecessary drama You give us the facts based on your experience, research and testing, and anyone who watches your content regularly knows you're a person of utmost integrity and honesty, as well as incredibly intelligent and extremely hard working. Even though this is a list of fails I love the look you're wearing lol and the lip combo you cocktailed... beautiful! ✨🪄💫
Yes, yes, and yes! ICAM with all your comments in the video. Something weird is going on with T. Ford's formulations, and his foundations have been on 50% sales. My guess is Estee Lauder is destroying yet again another acquisition. Dior's reformulations have broken my heart. Ditto for Chanel's reformulated eyeliners. Chantecaille was a complete disappointment for its 25th anniversary year aside from the Precious Metal collection. I know I'm bored with a brand when a 25% sale comes up and I shrug. In 2024, I'm going to take my cool-toned self and venture more toward Cle de Peau and Suqqu. For the price points, I want fewer misses and more reliable hits.
I think TF is definitely experiencing some big changes. It's a shame. The highlighters this year were so good but not much else imo. Add Addiction to your list for next year. I'm hoping they have some great offerings too but I'm feeling the same way as you.
I agree with your assessment of both Chanel and Dior. And while they reformulated the good stuff out of their products, they have increased their prices far beyond inflation. Plus Chanel ruined their nail polish formula. It went from shiny, self leveling, and long wearing, to being dull and chipping within 24 hours. The metallics perform a bit better. But it really shows when I get out my old, pre-new formulation polishes, and they apply and wear like a dream. Such a disappointment! I picked up that Chantecaille Glow Powder, and it's lovely. But the rest of the year was baffling. At least they did some pretty packaging again for Holiday. The rest of the year was just photo art. And, because all high end brands raised their prices so much, they'd better bring their A game every time. They've priced themselves into an expectation equal to those new prices, but they haven't brought products to meet that expectation. They are now competing with Japanese brands like Cle de Peau. And they don't have the goods. If I'm going to pay over $70 for an eye palette, then I'm going to look at everything in that range and above. And there are many brands that are simply better than anything Chanel and Dior, in particular, make right now. Thanks for the video. We agree on a lot.💚
@@LexiJong Just got my email off to the Suqqu People at Selfridges. That Spring 2024 collection seemed to be a good way to try the brand. Thanks for the address.💚
@@Nathalie_Jackie In the US we can purchase a Selfridges Global Shipping membership. For $65 they ship free for a year. And I've saved since purchasing it as some brands are cheaper in the UK than they are here. There is also a lesser Duty charge, which I never know how to anticipate. Some items have zero duty, some a lot. Sorry you don't have that in Canada.
@@DeborahCarlstonthe brands are not usually cheaper to buy in the UK. It only works if you order from the US because they remove the VAT that is included in the UK retail prices. If I buy the same item at Selfridges I pay more for it in the UK than you as US customer do
The last Dior product I enjoyed was the night bird palette from the birds of a feather collection 2 years ago. The new lip maximizers are so beautiful but they contain beeswax (I’m allergic to that). So sad about all the reformulations
I was so chapped that the Night Bird palette was sold out and I missed it. Eden Roc was a big hit for me but I've been reluctant to try any other Dior palettes this year.
And the retailer that disappointed me most is Cult Beauty. While Liberty London would ship to Montreal Quebec, Cult Beauty would flat out say they don’t ship to Montreal. OMG, that’s a discrimination! Unfortunately the Suqqy eyeshadow quads 125 and 126 are only available on Cult Beauty.
I agree about Chanel! I was so disappointed and didn't buy anything this entire year, save a replacement balm. Here's to 2024 and thank you for always being honest!
Lexi, I’m SO glad you mentioned the Givenchy lipstick faulty packaging issue!!! I had this happen with two separate orders of the limited edition Le Rouge balm releases in the purple packaging. Both orders arrived with this faulty packaging with the bullet stuck in the tube. After weeks of contacting customer service Givenchy would not refund or replace the faulty items. Very disappointing and I have not ordered a lip product from them since.
That's really disappointing to hear Givenchy won't refund the faulty products. I'm dealing with terrible customer service from another luxury brand, Cire Trudon, and it's incredibly frustrating. You'd think brands that claim luxury quality would have the same standards of customer service
My biggest fails this yr came out of Dior's reformulation; the Rosy Glow blushes and Forever Skin Correct concealer, both former holy grails that Dior ruined. I was also really disappointed with the glittery concealers, especially Givenchy Prisme Libre, CT Beautiful Skin and Dior Backstage. Lastly, the continued inaccurate product photos and descriptions brands keep pumping out are just frustrating. You mentioned all of this so I'm clearly not the only one that experienced them.
And that’s why I love to hear reviews first before getting something, I have to say I managed to escape almost everything on your list, so thank you for saving me money! I did get WA liquid superloaded base and the only way I can use it is I mix it with HG ambient soft glow foundation - I couldn’t use it by itself, it was so drying on me, so when I mis these two products it works for me. It’s fascinating though how many products works for some and doesn’t for others. Thank you Lexi! ❤
A Gucci face powder went hard pan; the Charlotte Tilbury "pop" eye shadow singles (a green one and a pink one) had such bad fallout that I gave up; and a Gucci eyebrow pencil is difficult to handle and I am still struggling with it. The three first-listed failures went into the bin at L'Occitane.
Oh also... I think NARS has become a big disappointment for me. They have so much expertise on how to formulate outstanding things, so that I find it kinda inexplicable how much they have slowed down. Nothing coming out from them has felt exciting for quite some time. In fact, while doing my makeup just now I came across 2 old palettes of theirs sitting in my collection: the Nars Fleur Fatale and the Provocateur palettes. Now *those* were outstanding to me. They seem to have lost their way a bit 😞
You saved us so much money, thanks for being so open and honest. Whenever I happen to also have tried the same product, I always end up sharing your opinion, so feel like I can really trust your judgment. Have a wonderful 2024 when it comes!!!
I was so sad when DIOR reformulated the Forever Correct Skin Concealer. They got rid of the strong, effective preservatives and replaced them with less effective “natural” ones, added synthetic fragrance and more plant extracts. Basically making it less safe and more prone to allergic reactions and bacteria growth. The whole “clean beauty” concept is getting out of control.
Dior was completely disheartening this year. Nothing called to me at all. Some Chanel was bought, but not as much as last year. I actually had my head turned by Natasha Denona's palettes and some indie brands. Cheaper, much better quality and money goes to the owners. 2024 will be a no buy for all products, except foundation and mascara, and even then, two must go out before I buy a new one. Thank you for all you do for us, Lexi. And thank you for being honest and calling out brands' lack lustre performances. Happy New Year to you, your girls and Sadie. X
The third disappointment is the Chanel blushes. I bought the Rose Initial and Quintessence and they are just okay, nothing of amazing quality and wow that you would expect from Chanel. However, I should still say that Chanel Sublimage foundation is amazing and their Bloom and Flash lipsticks and the new L'Extrait lipstick are really good.
Chanel makes me mad bc their makeup is always sold out online. I’m allergic to some of Dior’s eyeshadow & also not pleased w/the consistency of the ones that I do have, so the only thing I was purchasing was their lip products. I use to get so excited over Chantecaille and now I’ve pretty much written them off for good. It’s sad to see the prices going up on makeup and the quality & quantity of makeup going down. There still r brands out there that r doing a great job imo like VBB. I was very disappointed to see that VBB’s prices were going up though.
Hi Lexi I agree on Chanel & Dior . Chanel those eyeshadows I mean why we need it. I look for eyeshadows that don’t have fall outs, so why would anyone want to pay for that mess🤪 Have a blessed day🙏❤️
Hi Lexi, a belated Merry Christmas! This year I have written off Chanel, a few weeks ago I binned all my Chanel makeup with the exception of one limited edition blush palette that I still like. The brand just no longer interests me, I feel, it has become mediocre at best. The fact that they keep raising prices whilst simultaneously lowering quality hasn't helped. Chanel has a huge amount of work to do if they want to regain my custom in the future! I haven't experienced any problems with the new Dior eyeshadow palettes, thankfully, and I love the new colour variations they have launched this year too, so that is a win as far as I'm concerned. I haven't tried the new blushes yet as this year I've discovered the Surratt blushes, which are stellar in my opinion. I've bought a lot of Surratt and Suqqu this year and I have to say that they, along with Lisa Eldridge and Victoria Beckham Beauty, are my favourite brands. I'm excited to see what 2024 has in store beauty wise - Happy New Year! 😊
Wow! Impressive! The Surratt blushes are awesome imo. I hope they add a few new shades sometime. I'm glad you have some great go-to brands! Happy New Year too!
Thank you, Lexi! I always enjoy watching your videos. My worst was Carolina Herrera. I was so excited to try their products. I got a lipstick each from their dif formulas. I also got a mascara and 2 cheek liquid blushes. Everything was great and the packaging was great, except for the liquid lipstick. That one was advertised as non-drying, and it was so bad that it was worse than the C. Louboutin liquid lips. It took me forever to get the liquid color off. damaged my lips. and what’s worse is, I have written to them, and it has been weeks and they just won’t acknowledge it or give me a refund. Their customer service is horrendous!
OMG! That's crazy. I'm so glad you let me know. I think I will just skip the brand completely. I hope they refund you soon or you can contact your credit card company.
I agree with a lot of your points. I’m done with Dior. I’ve been disappointed almost every purchase this year and Chantecaille is just boring. VBB raised prices again this year. I’m cutting back on makeup purchases this year or I’ll buy other items such as jewelry and shoes to have fun. I really want to just use the makeup I already have now. Love your videos and can’t wait to see your next one Lexi. ❤
As for Chanel, I've long sworn by the retractable Stylo Eyeliners, but the two I bought this year directly from the Chanel website were dry and crumbly. Ordered separately, so this is a formula issue. I won't order any more Chanel eyeliners. So disappointing, almost as much as when they reformulated the powder blushes.
Now, I have to say I'm lucky to be able to return most of what I don't like to Sephora, an example of which is the Westman Atelier's highlighter (compressed). It really doesn't do much and especially after I have experienced the amazing highlighter from Cle de Peau, I really don't want to keep it around. I was also able to return the Dior's eyeshadow quint in cashmere. This quint must be from the new reformulation because the powder is hard to pick up and not pigmented enough.
Awesome video, agree with your assessment of the companies, had many of the same thoughts. My biggest fail is Shoprunner which issued a scam I fell for, a 2 for 1 "sitewide" at Kiehl's that was not actually sitewide, and no way of knowing what counted. I bought only a bar of soap, but I didn't get 2 for 1 and I didn't get free shipping which Shoprunner blames on Kiehl's, but Shoprunner still got their commission. The luxury shopping experience is no longer luxurious, sadly. Every release is a mad scramble if you want something, this is more mass market shopping. A lot of luxury influencers are going low/no buy next year, and I can't blame anyone. Cosmetics go through same-y/same-y ruts where the companies sell the same colors and textures years past the point where consumers wanted to keep buying. Matte went on too long, then disco ball with frosty gloss went on too long, then glam eyes and concealer lips. Now it's nude eyeshadows and gold highlighters. In these rut periods, I tend to focus more on upping my skincare game and really narrowing down the best products for under makeup, and refining a "best look" for me to include the skin part of it.
Wow! That is so disappointing about shoprunner! Skincare is definitely the way to go. I'm also focusing on some of the brush releases right now before this quality level becomes too scarce.
Loved your for thumbnail! 😂😂 That Rabanne foundation even SOUNDED awful! 😧 It really stinks that you didn’t get a reply from Givenchy about that lipstick! Also FeelYounique’s response was terrible. Gah!! I didn’t like the Hourglass lipsticks either. That cap is so annoying, and I don’t like the formula either. I agree Dior was so disappointing this year. Their 5 pan palettes went from sure things that were always great to meh. That’s the very definition of disappointing. I agree with you on Chanticaille especially during their anniversary year. Very weird choices were made! I’m excited to see what the new Chanel team puts out. It has to be an improvement over all the reds!
The releases from Chanel have been a mess; specifically, the release process. The Douceur Dequinoxe Blush Harmony that sold out quickly online at all retailers was at outlets this past week. When it was released early in boutiques, that process was not even consistent. I was in Las Vegas in August and I had already watched several videos on the line, so I asked the boutique if they had the line and they they did but were not allowed to have it out or sell it yet. Nordstrom had the current Les Beige blushes online. I asked the SA at Nordstrom when they would release at the counter and she told me that the release online was a mistake and they would not have it in store for two months. I feel like confusion with release dates is intentional to cause a frenzy It’s frustrating!
Yes, I agree completely. I know that the only reason the boutiques sold so early for this les beiges release and the last one or two releases was because of leaks at retailers who sold early. I feel like they really need to take a break and get organized on these launches! A little bit of early promotion and a heads up on when things will launch would be much appreciated too.
Hi Lexi, I agree with you 100% about Dior, Chanel, Chantecaille and Tom Ford. On top of bad reformulation many Dior limited editions didn’t come in Australia this year. I just bought one of the holiday quint (the silver one) which is surprisingly good. From Chanel I bought Parure Cristal quad and some nail polishes. After I bought Hazy Sensuality quad Tom Ford didn’t come with something interesting for me - bad colour story and/or bad formula). Chantecaille didn’t release the holiday collection in Australia. Maybe after holiday 🤔. I was very intrigued that you didn’t mention anything about Hermes eyeshadows. I remembered that you were very disappointed (you said that the quality is worse or the same like drugstore eyeshadows) and even nobody had the same opinion I was sure that you will start “the worst makeup for 2023” with Hermes. 😁 Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!🙂
The Hermes shadows don't make the fail list because they aren't a bad product exactly but they just aren't worth the price tag imo. I think the formula is equivalent to some drugstore shades I have used or some of the not so great dior and chanel palettes but the price tag is way higher and they are small. So they aren't worth purchasing imo but they aren't unusable or anything like that.
Ah Lexi, how I love this video! TRUTH to all! Chantecaille has been extraordinarily disappointing for quite some time. THey did get bought by the Nivea company last year, or the year before, and wonder if there are adjustments being made? The moment I saw your Dior blush reformulation video this past year, I literally RAN and found an original formula blush in a color I'd been wanting and grabbed it and I'm so glad I did...what a silky formula. I appreciate they are trying to be cleaner, etc, but it's been so disappointing to see and hear about the non success of these projects. Love hearing your honest opinions. Happy new year!
I saw this, forgot to comment! Holiday season is always more messy. But such a good video!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩I love your honest opnion always so much!!! I found the Hermes bronzer THE fail of the year, said earlier (such good quality and than such stupid orange shades for lightest complexions). But lack of transparancy, like you said, is even more irritating....Chantecaille, still my most used brand, love their skincare, but, Lexi, they are good in that. 🙃
This was the first year in a long time that I did not buy any Chanel make-up, as they simply did not appeal to me. In a way it's disappointing because Chanel was my no. 1 brand for many years. On the positive side, the only Chanel product bought this entire year, one of the re-formulated nail polishes, I really enjoyed! I consider picking up another color in the range because the formula is so great.
Your honesty and thoroughness are so fantastic! With regard to the products in this video that I have tried, I agree with you on 98% of them….I still love those Chanel loose pigments! With regard to the products that I have not tried, I’m so grateful that you tried them for me and saved me the money and aggravation. Hope your new year’s is happy and fun!
Regarding Chanel products Chanel used to put out a lot nicer products. I haven’t been buying a lot of Chanel products for the last couple years as their quality and selection has declined
Agree about the Hourglass lipsticks! I was really excited for the release and ended up returning the one that I tried. I expected so much more from the brand. Agree also about Diors shadows etc- not up to par- also Chantecaille! I e only picked up the Glow powder and one of the new luminescent shadows- overall a big letdown .
Such a great, considered video. Thanks again for saving me so much money and disappointment, that I then spent on some truly special things. So Suqqu over dior, addiction Tokyo over Chanel. I didn’t buy anything from chantecaille after spring. I bought a ton of brushes this year, since prices are going up and my favorite makeup brands were phoning it in.
Givenchy is annoying with their faulty packaging. I am stuck with a foundation from them that the pump top will not stay on. It falls off constantly and makes it very difficult to use. I have actually been meaning to buy a complete replacement component for it. Since I purchased the foundation from Sephora, it is not beyond me to buy a new bottle and switch out the pumps, then return it 😂 But that is just kicking the can down the road to when the pump fails again. Lol
The second and major disappointment is Natasha Denona Hy-Glam concealer where Tati was swearing her name to it. And I was stupid enough to buy three of the same shades to save on the shipping and when I was disappointed, Natasha Denona's team flat out said sorry they don't do returns for international sales, like Canada is international like a third world country already?
@@lipstickrulesmylife thank you! After that not so pleasant experience, I didn’t buy from Natasha Denona ever, even at the Sephora’s VIB sale in November.
@@SibilaDelphos I found the best concealer to be the same as Lexi which is Valentino. I hv fine lines under my eyes and need to be very careful as I've aged and this doesn't settle or get dry. I know concealer is very personal for people as all skin differs.
Yes! Love your honest reviews. A friend showed me how to use the Chanel loose eyeshadow. She actually wacked the bottom of the container on a table then wiggled the applicator as she removed it. I tried her method and it did help a bit. But, it still was a bit messy.☹️ I too really disliked the Hourglass lipstick. Like you, the lipstick had a very dry feel. Luckily the 2 I did purchase came from Sephora so I was able to return them.
Great video. Love your eyes. Might have to get that 126. I agree the WA are too oily. I am finding I don't like a few of her products like her lip compacts....so dry. They got trashed.
Thank you for your honesty Lexi!! Your section on disappointing brands was right on target. I’m most bummed by Dior because I think Peter’s color sense remains incredible; why did they have to make their eyeshadows, lips and blushes worse than before? In terms of Chanel and Chantecaille, truly is anyone home? And don’t get me even started on Tom Ford. I got suckered into the Soleil Neige quad and should’ve taken your advice; I got YSL Stora Dolls around the same time and it was just miles better for less money. I am so much more interested in brands like Suqqu and Addiction and Surratt right now. In fact, I need to track down that Suqqu 105 right away. I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday season with your family and wish you an amazing 2024!
Thank you Megan! Good luck with the suqqu 105. Unfortunately it is really pretty impossible to find now but I know they are working on a new blush formula to replace the melting powder one so hopefully they will add the color to that line. Happy Holidays!
Hey Lexi, I know you’re a total pro at this sense you spend so much time reviewing products. In your opinion, what is hands down the best item from Chanel money can buy in your opinion?
Oh wow, that's a hard question but the best will definitely be in the category you will use the most. Out of current items, I would say the Sublimage concealer is the best. From what I've heard, there is no news on a reformulation or discontinuation but it is sold out online. It is still available in boutiques and should restock online. If lipsticks are your thing, I would recommend one of the rouge allure lipsticks or the lipglosses (the three shades they include for the holiday sets each year happen to be my favorites).
what i really liked from louboutain was the nail polish! really interesting undertones, at least when I tried them. but the packaging is atrocious in actual use so i've never bought one- i got a manicure with them
I agree abt the nail polish. I received their classic red shade as a gift and while the packaging is annoying, the polish itself is really nice, although not sure it's worth the $50 cost.
The next disappointment is Tom Ford's shade and illuminated contour pallet. For fair skin, the light contour shade almost disappears into my skin and doesn't really do anything for me; and if I would get the dark one (equivalent to the Chanel 395 bronzing cream), then the accompanying highlighter would be too dark. So, I returned the contour pallet.
@@LexiJong well we can buy two pallets but that would be a waste of money, LOL. Lexi, between September to December, I spent over $12K in makeup and skincare. Normally my budget is $10K a year for both skincare and makeup. Well, I did well on the market this year so..
Hi Lexi, I did comment before but I think YT deleted my comment as I added a link from a wonderful YT Cheri Voyage, her tip on how to use the Chanel loose eyeshadows is fantastic! I doubted getting it but I did after watching her video and I'm so happy! I love them for one and done eyeshadow look! Love the texture, the pigmentation and how easy they blend! New here ☺Thank you for a wonderful video and sharing your opinion on disappointing luxury products, wishing a wonderful New Year! and I look forward to enjoy your content! 🥰
Thank you Lexi for sharing your fails of 2023! I can’t express it better than @Pam8200! Your work ethic reveals the dedicated former math teacher who has now turned her attention to analyzing luxury makeup- we are all so thankful ! The only moisturizing lipstick hits I had this past year were recommended by you : Hermes special edition colors in Prunoir and Rouge Abysse. Still wearing and enjoying them. Looking forward to following your channel in 2024. Happy New Year to you and your family and keep us in the loop on Sadie’s adventures! ❤
Thank you Lexi. You´re a gem. We know that we can count on you for the truth. Unfortunately lots of influencers don´t want to be excluded from being sponsored, and they are very careful in how they comment. Most of the time itś just a fast showcase of the product, and then you never hear from them again, and at the end of the year you find said products in their failures. Next year I will be very careful of who I follow, but you will be at the top of my list. Happy New Year and Thank you!
I totally agree with you Lexi on Chanel, Dior & Chantecaille. I did not buy much from these brands this year due to all the things you listed. Chanel’s overuse of red & pink, Chantecaille lack of creativity & Dior eyeshadows reformulation. I purchased the WA liquid highlighters too the way I use them is under foundation & concealer. A tip I think from Michele Wang is using little under eyes under concealer. Brightens the eye & helps with my dry skin under eyes. Give it a try so maybe it’s not a total waste of money 😆. Enjoy hearing your fails for 2023. Let’s hope for the best for these brands in 2024! 😊🎉
Hi Lexi! I have seen that 2024 products may be more focused on lips, where 2023 saw so many blushes. Have you heard this? Also have you considered reselling items that were only used a few times? I've had good use of Mercari in the past for resale.
Thanks Sarah! I hadn't seen that but seeing as we have seen several new lip products in 2 days already, I totally believe it! I don't resell my makeup but I do give it to friends and family or donate things that are eligible.
That's a good idea!! I donate to my mom & sisters quite a bit. They enjoy it & we all get to try different things that way! Yes, Lipstick sounds like a nice change of pace from all the blushes!! 😊❤
It's refreshing to hear a well-deserved criticism with such eloquence. I completely agree that both Chanel, and Chantecaille have let their customer down with lack-laster releases, the same goes for Dior's reformulations. I love how Japanese brands do their reformulations every 2-3 years, and so far most have been on point and better than previous with their innovative formulas, western brands are trying to do that, but something is lacking, and consumers are paying for it. Regarding the Givenchy. I was wondering if only lipsticks you bought from FeelUnique are the ones you are having trouble with the component? I purchased Guerlain foundation from them when the shade I usually buy from Bergdorf was out of stock, and I had a problem with the component (the pump kept falling off when used) of that foundation where before never had any issues when purchased elsewhere. So it might be FeelUnique, or maybe just a coincidence.
I agree! Cle de Peau's reformulations have been so smooth! That could be about Feel Unique! The lipsticks were all purchased there. Thank you! I hope that is the issue.
I love your honesty - thank you for that. I only bought the Baume Essentiel in Dragee from Chanel & one of the tweed eye palettes this year (were the tweeds this year or last? Not sure) but both were 'ok' but I wasn't inspired with any of the other products to be honest - there seemed to be a lot of duplication... maybe next year it will be more exciting! I've bought a lot of VBB products this year and not one has disappointed. So I'm excited for next year at VBB and also to see what Lisa Eldridge brings out - I love that she doesn't release anything until it passes her quality standard 👍 Hope you're finding time to relax over the holidays & looking forward to your vids and reviews next year! xx
Thank you! This week has been very full of fun with the kids. We have been spending a lot of time with family that we don't get to see much during the school year so it has really been a nice break. Poor Sadie is worn out from all the activity!
Inspired to toss some cream blushes; for fair skin, brands seem to focus on warm tones. Every one looks like the same color. Tossed KA awaken, NARS Maui, Ciele in Behati and Kristy, Nude Sticks all look the same. I kept knickers and WA petal. But so disappointing that there seems to be missing pale, cool pinks. (WA may have one.) I think TF LE rose lip balm is a fail, because the fragrance is strong; must be artificial. Just so unpleasant to me. I let go many brow pencils because they were too warm, yeah VB in taupe - maybe I’ll try a different color.
I agree that there aren't many cool pale pinks. The cooler colors are usually berries which can be too deep for me. I'm sorry the VB didn't work out. I wish the taupe were a bit cooler but I love that pencil!
Hi Lexi, thank you for your video that I have been so looking forward to. I have a few complaints myself. First of all, while Chantecaille's customer services team is great, their product is not that great except for the Holiday compressed powder. Their lightest future skin foundation shade in Aura is too dark for me. Their Holiday lip gloss is okay, nothing to wow about.
I agree. Their products used to be soooo good but they haven't kept up with the times and updated anything. Their base shade selections are not great. I'm really hoping they make some positive changes this year because at these price points, we should get near perfection imo.
Another disappointment is Charlotte Tilbury's and Hourglass's powder. While they are going viral on social media, they are just okay. Probably the young people with small wallets would be content with them, but they are not doing anything special to my skin, not to the extent that the Sisley powder or the Chantecaille Holiday powder would do.
I agree - they are not as finely milled as some brands. I really want to try the new CdP powder that came out in Asia a year or two ago but it still isn't available here.
I don ‘t agree at all !!! I am sorry .. but i love ❤the blushes and highlighters from Chanel en Dior .. this year , The embossing .. but also how they Apply .. and look on me .. yes the Eyeshadows are dryer from Dior now but still a high quality and fine to work with for me . The brand who are disappointed me the most is Charlotte Tilbury.. so little what came out .. old palette s .. old colours .. I was a huge fan .. and now i buy alone her setting spray . A pity to Here that you not reviewing Dior and Chanel anymore in 2024 . I like You reviews and opinion .. so we will see what the brands give us in 2024 .
I am glad they worked out for you! I am still reviewing Chanel in 2024 and some Dior but not as much. Chanel's new team should hopefully bring out some new formulas and color stories. Dior I will review when something really stands out and I'm looking at some of their spring collection potentially. I just ordered their new lipsticks so we will see how that reformulation goes for me. Fingers crossed!
This was very helpful Lexi - I have to choose my purchases very carefully so this guide on your 'fails' is brilliant to have. Expensive lipsticks that fail on the packaging and companies not engaging with you about it is so unacceptable. Having such disregard for their consumers another fail in my book. On a separate note - I loved your make up today and by a very happy coincidence, I too, have that Suqqu quad - my only Suqqu eye shadow quad and you inspired me to dig it out and use it today! How do you manage to make the shimmery pink stand out so well on your lids? I am thinking I may apply my Sisley pink eye twist as a base and try layering the Suqqu pink one over it to try and intensify the colour. Spraying a sponge applicator is another method I adopt. The colours and formula are lovely and at my time of life, subtle is key or I look too 'done'. May I ask what your all time favourite cream eye shadow brand would be? I am on the hunt for cream eye shadows with a wash of pigment and available in the UK. Any ideas welcomed! I did consider RMS but reviews haven't always been good on the formula, so although they might be good on sensitive eyes, such as I have, I probably won't purchase unless you report otherwise?! Thank you so much for the time and effort to make this video 😊
Thank you Annie! Definitely layer the shimmery pink over a deeper shade for more depth. That is why mine stands out so well in this video. My all time favorite cream shadow brand is hard to choose. I like the RMS though. I just bought some more of them so I will have those in a video soon. I think overall though, I like the Sisley phyto eye twists the most for something that is available in the UK as well. Phytosurgence is fantastic (and the old tom ford cream and powder duos) but I don't think they ship to the UK. The Rabanne liquid shadows are actually really nice too but I gravitate to the Sisley, particularly the topaze shade which I have used up several times over the years.
Ooh thank you Lexi! I will revisit the RMS as a possibility since you rate it :) I do have some of the Sisley Phyto eye Twists including a travel size of the Topaze shade which is nice. I have hazel eyes and light olive. complexion and have made mistakes with my colour choices - the Sisley copper for example is too strong and the Bronze shade not flattering on my colouring but I will check the Photosurgance and T Ford. Many thanks and Happy New Year 🥳 x
Thank you for trying out everything so we can have better choices. I really appreciate and love your videos and reviews, especially on brands that not many do .Have great holidays and a happy new year filled with all the blessings you deserve my beautiful Lexi 🎉 Love all the way from Greece 🇬🇷 ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I used to go to the department stores to see the colors too but unfortunately, mine get everything too late so I usually have to order online in order to get reviews up in time.
The westman atelier liquid highlighter is a complete disaster… i don’t know how to use that product. It’s an oil mess, if you use underneath makeup, nothing you put on top sets down, if you put over make up, it messes everything below. I’ve seen people use underneath the eyes for brightening eye primer effect, and that’s a bigger disaster… even the tried and true sisley phyto concealer and the chanel sublimage concealer move around and start separating when used on top!!! I have dry skin and i thought okay perhaps it is just my tropical climate that is the issues. So i brought it with me to my 1 month trip in tokyo, used it during fall/winter and it’s still the same disaster. Apologies for the rant but that WA liquid highlighter is the biggest fail of 2023. I think it can only work worn alone with nothing underneath or on top… i can’t even wear it to the sea for that shimmering look because it doesn’t even sit nicely on top of my sunscreen 😭😭😭
Hi Lexi , this year for me I have few fails including suqqu face cleanser and surratt inner light baton.😢 Have you ever tried using westman atelier rosy liquid drops under concealer for brightening purpose??? I heard some are using it this way and I am so curious if it really works out.
I'm glad you only have a few fails at least! I tried the WA drops under concealer once but need to do it again. I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I really like the Chanel rosy light drops under concealer so this might be a good option for me. Thank you for the suggestion!
Wow. The packaging shouldn’t be like that. And those Chanel shadows. The packaging is ridiculous I mean. No. Fussy. And for the money. NO. It’s hard for me to support companies that release elsewhere and not here too. It’s always confusing
For as many products as you test this was a short list :) I’m all for going talc free and for making efforts to support the environment. I’d like for them to put the bulk of money into the product development and testing instead of advertising. Talc isn’t recommended for acne or those with allergies or for respiratory concerns or pregnancy and that encompasses a large portion of the population, aside from asbestos and the worker concerns that people scoff at. I appreciate that brands are working to be inclusive but they shouldn’t skimp on testing. If Givenchy didn’t make a perfect shade for me I wouldn’t buy. The packaging looks nice but the rattle noise really undercuts any luxury.
I know it’s very pricy but damn (excuse my French) this is honestly the BEST your skin has looked. It’s almost glass like!! Looks flawless!! Keep it up ma’am 😃
You don’t believe it, Lexi, that WA super loaded liquid highlighter is featured as the best product on Michele Wang’s chanel. Haha, that’s why I don’t even subscribe to her channel.
@@Nathalie_Jackie yeah I have combo skin like she does and my taste is the same as hers in very refined particles, anything glittery looks so bad on crepey skin. I don't match with her on everything, the Cle de Peau concealer plus Chantecaille blur powder turns into greasy cake frosting on my cheeks that squishes into eyeglass rims when I smile. I might be more oily in that part of the cheek than she is, because skin oil is what causes the makeup to combine and then become like cake frosting.
Thank you so much! I am really glad I can help.
Thank you!
Love how straightforward your approach is and lacking in unnecessary drama You give us the facts based on your experience, research and testing, and anyone who watches your content regularly knows you're a person of utmost integrity and honesty, as well as incredibly intelligent and extremely hard working. Even though this is a list of fails I love the look you're wearing lol and the lip combo you cocktailed... beautiful! ✨🪄💫
Thank you Pam! I really appreciate it!!
I thought I was the only one who noticed the difference in the Chanel eyeliners. No more of these for me after years of repeated purchases.
You complete summed up my thoughts. Especially on the dior and chantecaille! And all the repromotes by Chanel and lots of luxury brands, so lazy.
We definitely agree on a lot! Very well said Deborah!!
@@LexiJong Just got my email off to the Suqqu People at Selfridges. That Spring 2024 collection seemed to be a good way to try the brand. Thanks for the address.💚
@@DeborahCarlston Selfridges charges $55 to ship to Montreal, Quebec so I gave up on that, and Cult Beauty wouldn't ship to Quebec at all.
If I buy the same item at Selfridges I pay more for it in the UK than you as US customer do
I loved everything I bought this year, cause I watch all of your videos and listen to your recommendations!
Thank you so much Lorrina! That means a lot to me!
Taking this approach in 2024!
I agree! Thank you! I find that when a brand sells the new owners just want to ride the wave of popularity and not do anything extra.
Yes, it's always worrisome when a brand sells.
*cough* Estee Lauder, Beyersdorf, L'Oreal *cough*
The last Dior product I enjoyed was the night bird palette from the birds of a feather collection 2 years ago. The new lip maximizers are so beautiful but they contain beeswax (I’m allergic to that). So sad about all the reformulations
That was a beautiful palette! I loved the majority of that collection.
That is so frustrating! Thank you for sharing though. It's a good warning for others.
I agree about Chanel! I was so disappointed and didn't buy anything this entire year, save a replacement balm. Here's to 2024 and thank you for always being honest!
Thank you! Looking forward to a great year!
I totally agree with your 'Disappointing Brands" picks. It felt like they were completely resting on their laurels. Thanks for your thoughts!
Thank you Amit!
That is so disappointing! I was really hoping mine was an isolated issue.
Same happened to me!
Omg I thought my son broke it ! so good to know it’s not his fault 😅
That's really disappointing to hear Givenchy won't refund the faulty products. I'm dealing with terrible customer service from another luxury brand, Cire Trudon, and it's incredibly frustrating. You'd think brands that claim luxury quality would have the same standards of customer service
I agree, we need luxury customer service for these prices.
The incorrect photos and blatant photoshopping of colors is such a huge thing - I really hope that is corrected this year!
I'm glad you found a way for it to work for you!
I'm sorry to hear that!
I agree. They have just been kind of boring.
You saved us so much money, thanks for being so open and honest. Whenever I happen to also have tried the same product, I always end up sharing your opinion, so feel like I can really trust your judgment. Have a wonderful 2024 when it comes!!!
Thank you, you too!
I agree!
I love that idea of removing 2 before buying 1. Really great idea!! Happy New Year!
They have good lipsticks. I like their rouge allure lipsticks too.
Thank you for your straightforward reviews!!!
Thank you!
I agree. I didn't expect VBB to raise prices again. At least they are telling us in advance though and offering a sale for a couple of days.
A brand (Givenchy) that doesn’t respond to a customer is not a brand I want to do business with. Period
It's a shame because I love their lipstick formulas and they are one of my favorites.
Hi Lexi I agree on Chanel & Dior . Chanel those eyeshadows I mean why we need it. I look for eyeshadows that don’t have fall outs, so why would anyone want to pay for that mess🤪 Have a blessed day🙏❤️
Thank you Giedre! Have a great day too!
Yes...that WA went right back...not at all what I expected.
Me neither but I should have known it would be like her liquid foundation - too much oil.
Thank you so much! Jewelry is always a good idea!
I agreed with you about TF two new eyeshadows' formula are not good.
I had the same issue with the eyeliners. I gave them all to a friend and won't buy them again until they reformulate.
Oh that is a shame! I'm glad you could return them. The old formula Dior quints were so much better.
I so agree about Chanel, love most of it, but lots of them red and very hard to get ( orderes have been cancelled) So disappointing
Yes, hopefully next year will be better for them.
Hey Lexi..I hv nothing from ur fail list..cos I follow ur recommendations ❤️❤️
Thank you Preeti!
Hahahaha! Same. Saved me from a lot of fails this year.
Yes! Give us the T like it is! 👍🏽
Thank you!
Thank you so much for keeping it real and being honest. Happy Holidays ❤
Thank you Leazette! Happy Holidays!!
Loved your for thumbnail! 😂😂
That Rabanne foundation even SOUNDED awful!
Thank you! I haven't ordered from FeelUnique since. I feel the same way about Chanel!
Hi Lexi,
I agree with you 100% about Dior, Chanel, Chantecaille and Tom Ford.
Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!🙂
The Hermes shadows don't make the fail list because they aren't a bad product exactly but they just aren't worth the price tag imo. I think the formula is equivalent to some drugstore shades I have used or some of the not so great dior and chanel palettes but the price tag is way higher and they are small. So they aren't worth purchasing imo but they aren't unusable or anything like that.
Thank you Lexi❤ Happy Holidays 🎉
Thank you, you too!
Thank you Cat! Happy New Year!
Thank you for sharing your misses Lexi! So helpful as usual!! You look amazing! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! ❤
Thank you Yulia! I hope you have been enjoying the holidays too!
Lol, I agree that the Hermes shades need some work.
I'm glad you liked it! Chanel was my no. 1 for a long time too so I hope they do better this year.
Thank you Allison! Happy New Year too!
Regarding Chanel products Chanel used to put out a lot nicer products. I haven’t been buying a lot of Chanel products for the last couple years as their quality and selection has declined
I feel the same way! One of my favorite quads from many years ago seems to be much better quality. I miss that era.
Let's hope 2024 is much better!
Thank you Celina! I think those were some smart purchases! I'm going crazy on the brushes too.
Lol
That is so frustrating. They really need to fix their packaging issues.
Excellent content, Lexi! Thank you🌸🐝
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Marsha!
They won't even take back for US customers. I had a problem a couple years ago and decided I will never buy direct again.
@@SibilaDelphos I saw Lexi swatted the Gucci, I want to try it too
@@lipstickrulesmylife yeah I want to try the Valentino concealer too. Is it good for very dry under eyes skin?
Thank you! I'm glad you were able to return them.
I'm confused about the Louboutin 6 pan refillable. This came out before the duo like 3 years ago. That's when I bought it and the 3 pan blush.
Yes the 6 pans came out first and they brought out new duos this year and some have different formulas/finishes from the 6 pans.
Great video. Love your eyes. Might have to get that 126. I agree the WA are too oily. I am finding I don't like a few of her products like her lip compacts....so dry. They got trashed.
Same here!
Great content
Thank you!
I just listen to you and buy so I like my products ❤thank you.
Thank you!
Two of my givenchy lipsticks broke too!
Oh no! I'm sorry!
Could you possibly glue the Givenchy lipsticks into the base? They should really replace or refund your money if the component is faulty.
Unfortunately it messes up the turning mechanism but maybe I will de-tube them and put them in a vueset.
kwvyn aucoin did loose eyeshadows but in a roller ball tube- works really well! if you ever felt like it you could repot into one of those.
Thank you for sharing! I never tried those.
Love the review and what a terrible response from Givenchy…
It was disappointing.
what i really liked from louboutain was the nail polish! really interesting undertones, at least when I tried them. but the packaging is atrocious in actual use so i've never bought one- i got a manicure with them
Yes their packaging is difficult for storage. I haven't tried their nps though, they sound intriguing.
I agree abt the nail polish. I received their classic red shade as a gift and while the packaging is annoying, the polish itself is really nice, although not sure it's worth the $50 cost.
I totally trust your opinions! Also love the lip combo you have on!
Thank you!
that rabanne also looks VERY orange for a nuetral
It is so orange!
@@LexiJong dior is the same way! what are these companies using for their color standards!
Too bad you can't mix and match shades.
@@LexiJong well we can buy two pallets but that would be a waste of money, LOL. Lexi, between September to December, I spent over $12K in makeup and skincare. Normally my budget is $10K a year for both skincare and makeup. Well, I did well on the market this year so..
Lol, I hate seeing the totals. It's crazy how much all of this stuff costs now.
@@LexiJong I’m an accountant and an auditor, Lexi, can’t help doing the totals, LOL..
Hi Lexi, I did comment before but I think YT deleted my comment as I added a link from a wonderful YT Cheri Voyage,
her tip on how to use the Chanel loose eyeshadows is fantastic!
Yes YT doesn't seem to like links or hashtags (suspected spam probably). I'm glad she was able to use them so well! Happy New Year!
Thank you so much Maureen! Happy New Year!
Thank you Lexi. You´re a gem.
We know that we can count on you for the truth. Unfortunately lots of
influencers don´t want to be excluded from being sponsored, and they are
very careful in how they comment. Most of the time itś just a fast showcase
of the product, and then you never hear from them again, and at the end of the
year you find said products in their failures. Next year I will be very careful of
who I follow, but you will be at the top of my list. Happy New Year and Thank you!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Thank you Lora! I will try that with the WA. I am hoping for a great 2024!!
Givenchy will not take responsibility for faulty packaging. It happened to me with the loose powder, the cover got stuck would not open
Terrible customer service!
Thank you, Lexi, great video!
Thank you!
So I'm excited for next year at VBB and also to see what Lisa Eldridge brings out - I love that she doesn't release anything until it passes her quality standard 👍
Hope you're finding time to relax over the holidays & looking forward to your vids and reviews next year! xx
100% agree about Chantecaille
Hi Lexi, thank you for your video that I have been so looking forward to. I have a few complaints myself. First of all, while Chantecaille's customer services team is great, their product is not that great except for the Holiday compressed powder. Their lightest future skin foundation shade in Aura is too dark for me. Their Holiday lip gloss is okay, nothing to wow about.
I agree. Their products used to be soooo good but they haven't kept up with the times and updated anything. Their base shade selections are not great. I'm really hoping they make some positive changes this year because at these price points, we should get near perfection imo.
@@LexiJong they are not cheap. For the same prices, I would rather have Suqqu or Chanel.
Agree😊
Another disappointment is Charlotte Tilbury's and Hourglass's powder. While they are going viral on social media, they are just okay. Probably the young people with small wallets would be content with them, but they are not doing anything special to my skin, not to the extent that the Sisley powder or the Chantecaille Holiday powder would do.
I agree - they are not as finely milled as some brands. I really want to try the new CdP powder that came out in Asia a year or two ago but it still isn't available here.
Thank you for sharing .
My pleasure!
I appreciate your opinion, it’s always good to hear when items don’t work out, thanks Lexi 💫
Thank you Dani!
Great video as always. Thanks
Thank you!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad I can help and Happy New Year too!
Love your honesty, new subscriber
Yay! Thank you!
for those lipsticks, when you get it out, is it possible to put a little glue to keep the bottom two together?
Unfortunately the glue messes up the turning mechanism but it's a good idea!
Thank you Lexi, for your video, you look beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Is it me but i go to department stores always sold out yo see colors in person beca7se companies dont refund money. So unfair
I used to go to the department stores to see the colors too but unfortunately, mine get everything too late so I usually have to order online in order to get reviews up in time.
Thank youuuuu! It’s really helpful!
I'm sorry it didn't work out for you! Let's hope we find something better!
Hi Lexi , this year for me I have few fails including suqqu face cleanser and surratt inner light baton.😢
Have you ever tried using westman atelier rosy liquid drops under concealer for brightening purpose???
I heard some are using it this way and I am so curious if it really works out.
I'm glad you only have a few fails at least! I tried the WA drops under concealer once but need to do it again. I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I really like the Chanel rosy light drops under concealer so this might be a good option for me. Thank you for the suggestion!
Agree 100% 💕💕💕
Wow. The packaging shouldn’t be like that. And those Chanel shadows. The packaging is ridiculous I mean. No. Fussy. And for the money. NO. It’s hard for me to support companies that release elsewhere and not here too. It’s always confusing
Thank you Louise! At this point, we should be seeing global launches from these major brands imo.
Is Chantecaille trying to sell as no money for development and just doing repromote 😅😅😅?
Supposedly next year will wow us!
Chantecaille already sold to a German company. I've noticed they discontinued doing Influencer videos, maybe the SA's lost commission packages.
Sold to Beyersdorf mid 2021, I believe. Prices rose, boredom rose too.
Exactly, the only risk from talc is the asbestos veining, but that is testable.
I completely agree!
100%
This has nothing to do with your video so I apologize. Just wondering are you still using Auteur skincare cause your skin looks incredible.
I am! My video tomorrow is going up with my skincare favorites.
I know it’s very pricy but damn (excuse my French) this is honestly the BEST your skin has looked. It’s almost glass like!! Looks flawless!! Keep it up ma’am 😃
Thank you so much!
pretty woman
Thank you!
You don’t believe it, Lexi, that WA super loaded liquid highlighter is featured as the best product on Michele Wang’s chanel. Haha, that’s why I don’t even subscribe to her channel.
Lol, different people like different things and I know her skin is drier than mine. It probably works better for her.
yeah EverydayEdit loves this product. I bought it but haven't opened it, need to finish the compact one first, which I love...😅
@@cwynn1547 good for you. I had to return the WA compact highlighter because it’s too wet, shimmery and dark for me.
@@cwynn1547 Everyday Edit’s skin tone is too dark for me. In addition, while her taste is fine, my taste is closer to Lexi.
