    Irene. The flight spoiler only comes out to 30 degrees on full reflection in flight mode and only compliments the airelons.
    The do have a speed break function but these cannot be used on landing.
    Just to clear that up..

    Good video do pilots need a special license to land in conditions like this or is every pilot capable of this ?

    • @worldaviation4k
      @worldaviation4k  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      yusufandyasser i did winds like this when i was training for a cessna tiny plane licence the instructor was very enthusiastic saying alllrighttt!!! all the time but it was so bumpy gusting to 35 knots at night

      you need to know how to tackle crosswinds and what's necessary to be a pilot

    • @worldaviation4k
      @worldaviation4k  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tiernan Mchugh yes definitely, it gets calmer as you approach the runway, less turbulence first time is the worst

      When I say do whats necessary I mean make up your mind if you want to risk going on the ground in the wind or go around

    The pilots handle this by applying an airbrake of sorts in the wings( the rear of the wings drop 90° to trap air and slow the craft down. Their used to it but being a passenger it would be pretty scary.

    • @worldaviation4k
      @worldaviation4k  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irene Moran even this was an intense day for them

    • @LeonelEBD
      @LeonelEBD 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irene Moran Airbrakes are only used by the airplane in the air with flaps extended for high aileron inputs to assist the roll motion, not for slowing down the airplane. Im no pilot but know this one ;) .

    • @worldaviation4k
      @worldaviation4k  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      leonelp51 no they're not they're also used on the ground and used with no flaps too

    • @X-WingsFlyer
      @X-WingsFlyer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they use spoilers on the ground which is basically a mini flap which goes up at extendable stages. But, if the aircraft is going at a very fast pace, the pilots use their reverse thrust, which puts the engines into reverse.

    • @parapro
      @parapro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing that comes down on the trailing edge of the wing is flaps and have nothing to do with a windy approach. Flaps are always used when landing. The panels that come up on the wings (Outer spoiler panels) are called spoilerons (spoiler+aileron) and help assist the ailerons when trying to roll at lower airspeeds.

      The public has got no idea on what happens in the cockpit and what is safe and not safe. Tabloids love to talk shit this is how they make money, Ryanair is one of the safest airline in the world, training standard is very high.

      The winds died down after those two missed approaches, and the crew just wanted to be safe, they probably could have gotten it down if they had persisted but why take the chance? All pilots are type rated to the same standard regulated by the EASA (FAA) and receive 90% of their training at a flight school which has nothing to do with Ryanair or any other airline lol. So you can bash everything about the airline but not their pilots.

    • @Alex_is_flying_sims
      @Alex_is_flying_sims 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ryanair pilots have exactly the same training and pass over the same program as FlyBe, British Airways, EasyJet or Jet2. It is not because of lowcost that the pilot are worst than other airlines... totaly no sence :) safety is the same in every airline! ;-)

    OMG. I'd have a panic attack if I were a passenger...... Just kidding..... I'd have a continuous panic attack, as soon as we were off the ground, and just be DEAD if it stormed and we went around that many times.

      Ryan air fly 90 million passengers a year most successful low cost airline in the world you can show as many go around, hard landings ,unruly passengers, and turbulent flights as you want it won't change that fact
