I have a 2009 CTS that was doing the same thing. Everyone tried to convince me to take it to the dealership to have them chase down the problem (after I’d already replaced the battery; alternator, serpentine belt and idler pulley!). Then I came across your video. Thought I’d give it a shot. Low a behold…the fusible link had blown. Followed your video step by step…and now I’m back on the road. Thanks for the insight!
Thank you so much!!!! I already paid 100 bucks for a new alternator but before putting it in I checked my cable wire and sure enough it was blown. My stores also didn’t have a 200amp. So I got the 250. I’m still gonna replace the alternator. But if I never watched this video I would still be having the same damn issue. Again thank you from Texas!
Had a mobile mechanic 👨🏽🔧 come and put it on it was only $6 at autozone and wrapped it in electrical tape my alternator is now charging & battery meter is reading 14.7 volts again yayyy 🎊🙌🏽🙏🏽
Thank you so much for posting this. I have a 2008 Cadillac CTS 4 and had same issues. Battery was good and alternator was supposedly bad. I put a new alternator inn and service battery charging system came on then went into battery saver mode. I pulled the new alternator back out, took it back to get it tested and it was fine. Then I found this video, did a continuity check on fusible link and low and behold it was blown. I replaced it and so far so good. THANKS AGAIN
Man.. I have the same problem.. changed my alternator, battery, and the fuse. It’ll work every single time, but the fuse will blow in a few days every single time. I’m on my 4th fuse right now. Going to change the whole fusible link wire next.
Thx for the vid i have the same problem. I have a new alternater and still message me service electical system and battery not charging. I paid 250,- euro for replacing it. But this fuse or What it is. This Deens to be the problem. Many Thanks.
I’ve had the same issue I actually did use this 250 amp fuse and it was running for a good 2 weeks solid but then my battery light came back on and started dying on me again what could be the problem 🤔has a brand new alternator and a new ecm
Back checking the alternator connection should be one of your first steps when diagnosing charging issues..always isolate the alternator and confirm charge. Then check independent connection. Save yourself alot of time and in this case MONEY
And be careful when putting blade style fuses in the engine compartment they're not rated for the HEAT...that's why manufacturers use fusible links in that area.
2008 cts with parasitic drain over night. After troubleshooting everything, i unplugged the factory amp in the driver side trunk behind the carpet wall. No drain for a week! Untill i realized the brake light wire run through the amp, i had to plug it back! Its always something. Maybe i can run a switch but me wife hates that. Maybe a diode?
Never go bigger!!!!! the Amperage is calculated by engineers. Putting in a higher amperage fuse may cause the fuse not to blow and melt all your wiring or worse causing your car to completely burn up.
I have a 2007 Impala SS that is doing the same thing, but only when I get into the throttle. (getting up to speed) I've checked both the battery and alternator, both seem fine. Think this could be the same issue?
@@jackkauffman9417 the cable wire that screws on the alternator is the one. Not the wire that plugs in. Just follow that cable wire and you should be able to find it. That’s what I did.
Has anyone ever hooked the battery up backwards and got their car back in regular top running shape?im gonna try this next I changed battery’s and fuses and alternator
I believe I have the same issue. I had the Alternator replaced. Then few weeks later....no charging. The mechanic tried replacing the Alternator twice with no luck and sent me and the car (2007 Cad CTS 2.8) to a GM dealership.... their D&A with computer said wiring harness open circuit. They told me they would have to drop the transmission to remove the whole harness and make hand repairs since the harness is not offered any more.....sounded like BS.....so being an amateur electrician I decided to potentially run new wires for the Alternator....I haven’t had time to inspect the fuse that you graciously point out but it sure seems very similar. Where did you find the 250amp fuse for your fix??
This is done before buying a alternator. If you did this and still having the same issue then most likely you are gonna need a new alternator my friend.
You jumped from a 200 Amp fuse to a 250 Amp fuse, how long before your car burned to the ground? You never use a higher fuse rating. That fuse did not blow for no reason at all. It was an overload of some type. Good information on the location of the fuse but bad suggestion to go up in amperage. Fuses are designed to blow when the current (Amperage) in the circuit goes above a certain amount. In this case 200 Amps. Without the fuse blowing you probably would have melted the wires and potentially started a fire. Good info, bad repair advice.
How long ? Burned ? Ha Still have the same fuse in there and still my daily driver. 220k miles and no issues with the fuse. And it’s been 3 years. Yes I know what fuses are designed for. But in this case the word never does not apply. Also so that everyone knows, I would have put a 200 but they didn’t have one in stock. My plan was to use the 250 until the 200 was back in stock. But never got around to it. And all is well. Thank you

Thanks so much for this. After 3 new alternators and 2 batteries, I was ready to drive my '07 off a cliff. Glad I have this a try first.

Do you use a 200 or 250 fuse?
How did you crack that plastic pice that says 200 that’s what I’m stuck on
Does it matter
This is a good video, put me in the right direction in my bad attempt to fix it
Holy, poop! Thanks a million, Man!
You just saved me $162.99 that I would have wasted on an alternator!
Your awesome!
thank you for this video . you make my day more easier
Thanx man I jus went and got a new starter put in then an hour later I found ur vid.

Did you cut the wires back some before putting on the new fuse?
Where did you find the cover
Thanks, mine just started this 2 days ago
I replaced battery and alternator yesterday after I replaced them last year
I gave this a try did not work on mine but i must say spectacular fireworks when trying to reconnect the battery
HAHAHA THATS WHAT MINE DID AT 4AM WHEN I WAS DOING IT I WAS LIKE OH GOOD LORD I SEE THE LIGHT HAHAHAHAH
How did you open it

Hi there. Cold here in Canada. I cannot seem to find my plug thing to plug in my car. 2007 cadillac cts. Any advice
Thank you!
Where does that blk n white cable goes to ??
My Cadillac saying the same but my dashboard lights went out and now only the car starts but no lights inside you think is the same thing
Mine did that too. It’s gonna be a fuse that’s blown. I replaced them and everything is good.

Same techniques okay for a 2008?
Maybe. Found the fuse on my cts 08 yesterday.
Where was it
Nvm I found it in power wire to transmission, luck to any future reader God bless this man an anybody who reads

Never ? Still have the same fuse in there, still my daily driver. Nothing has burned up. And no issues.

Wow this is my problem I going to try this
So I was hooking up fuse and forgot to put radiator hose around and fuse blew so I replace it and still says service charging system
Video stops and wont load at 5 seconds for me sucks cause i want to see what it is
What cord was the 200 fuse found on? I have been under My hood for 2 days and re watching Your video 1000x and can't figure it out 😭
It’s on the cable that provides power to the alternator

Well that's kind of an overlooked deal there I noticed I was having the same problem with my truck and with my CTS so going to try this
I did this and everything went away but the check engine light and now my mileage isn't showing ???
It’s called a fusible link. It protects your car from burning up.
Yes fusible link is in the description.

Hey bud- is there a reason why this video won't load? Stops after 5 seconds- would you be willing to reupload this video?
How well has your CTS held up since the repair?
I’ve had no issues since the repair.
2003 Cadillac CTS charging cable
Why 250 and not 200 I put a 200 and I still have a charge probably

That's called a fusable link
So it wasn't the alternator
tre mays no it was not the actual alternator. Just the power cable.
