Luckily, I soon meet a fisherman who, due to the strong waves, could not go out to sea. Instead, he invites me to his humble home on the beach for a cup of authentic ceylon tea.
As we chat over tea, the fisherman shares with me some insights into the current economic crisis that Sri Lanka is facing. Moved by his plight, I decide to help him out by giving him some money to pay his bills. Through this encounter, I learn firsthand about the warmth, generosity, and resilience of the Sri Lankan people.

Exactly, he is the same guy. He does this for money which is not good
Whilst it’s disappointing, he didn’t ask me directly and there was no agreement etc, it was an honest exchange of good will and conversation with economic help, so for me, I don’t feel conned/taken advantage of, because it may have been his hope, but certainly wasn’t his demand. If it was straight up begging, that would be a different matter ✌🏻
@TheWanderLife You are not wrong..as in the video he is not demanding anything...but inviting to his house is the point..as Sri lankans inviting to our houses and offering a cup of tea is like a tradition..but we don't accept anything in return...and this guy is taking advantage.

You are 100% right. Sri lanka remains attractive because despite tourism it had not spoiled the very thing that makes it unique. Big hotels will leave the poor behind.
I’m not inherently against big hotels as such, but there has to be enough to go around for everyone you know and when people see ‘x’ hotel costing hundreds of dollars per night, it might make some think that staying and eating local is low quality due to the disparity in price but it’s simply not true and for me, the opposite. I’d love to see everyone prosper, but in particular I’d like to see the wealth gap close and see more opportunities for those locals struggling
Big hotels bring the high end spenders, dropping much more money than the general backpacker, poor people will always be left behind, doesn't mean Sri Lanka shouldn't cater for the wealthy traveller. Ferrari, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Business/first class tickets also leave poor people behind in every country

Hey! I’ve been to Indonesia before and loved it. I travelled across Java from Jakarta all the way to Ketapang before hopping over to Bali on the ferry. Would really love to do this trip again but take some more time to see Jakarta and other places in between. Would also be great to explore Sumatra

Was easy to get visa extension with UK passport .
I think they do pretty well to make many things as easy as possible for foreigners really. There's a great understanding and appreciation for visitors to the country, which is one of the reasons for me why it's such an enjoyable place to spend time
