    Blue color monk name is mugalan thero he killed his own parents in a previous life. As a karma (punishment) he got blue color skin

      This helps so much! I tried to find some more understandable info online but just kept finding things saying blue is generally a colour associated with tranquility etc, but couldn’t find anything definitive about this one so your info is really appreciated!

      @uthsara ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheWanderLife Actually the tale goes that since he murdered his parents in a previous life, the sin of that carried throughout his following reincarnations and finally since Mugalan was his last life where he will attain enlightenment, the karma of the sin accumulated to give him a skin tone different from every other person, and most Buddhists believe this was a deep shade of blue or similar.

      Cheers Mario! I actually stayed in Sigiriya for 10 days in total but only made this one video there. I just really needed to take it easy and relax with some friends that I made. After this I headed back to Kandy, so the next video is from there. I believe that may actually be the final one I recorded in Sri Lanka

      @TheWanderLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😂 Sorry about that Richard, the TH-cam notification put your name as Mario 🙈 I went back to the UK for a week and then came over to Spain, where I’ve been for the past 2 months. I haven’t made anything here because I’ve been busy with life and things, but I’ll be heading back to the UK at some point this week and then deciding my next move, which will be in around a month. I don’t plan too well so at the moment my options are open and will likely be decided just days before, but just a few that have come to mind recently are Morocco, Kazakhstan, Nepal (again), Vietnam, Costa Rica….there’s very little correlation between these so as you can see, it’s going to be a headache making a choice and sticking with it 😂

      @@TheWanderLife It's all good mate, enjoy your time in EU. I think best you do more vids in Asian countries because the folks love foreigners doing videos about their countries, once u pump up the subs u can do the more expensive destinations. P.S. try to engage with people more in your vids this helps.

    • @TheWanderLife
      @TheWanderLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BugsbunnyEh Yea it's kind of a balance between travelling for myself and travelling for the videos if that makes sense. For example, I've already been to the Philippines, but I know content from there does well...so it's working out how much I want to visit somewhere new vs how much I want to grow the channel etc. My goal really is to build the subscribers on this channel to make it a viable occupation. Not looking to be some expensive destination vlogger harping on about $1000 night hotels etc....just a simple guy who wants the videos to cover the cost of simple travels (love the likes of Gabriel Traveler for that syle of living). I'll keep experimenting though until I get the right style and right mix of content and fingers crossed that'll turn into something sustainable in the long term

    This is why people must visit Sigiriya nt just to see the rock and the fortress, I hope more people will get to know about this. Also u were very correct about Elephants cus although many people beleive them to be these beautiful animals they are actually a no one killer of rural Sri Lankans and its very hard to control them because they are extraordinarily big and strong

    • @TheWanderLife
      @TheWanderLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea there were actually a couple of other Elephant incidents when I was there. I believe one flipped over a mini van in the street. I visited a secret waterfall with a local and he was quite anxious about leaving before a certain time due to Elephants in the area (this was in thick jungle) and as we were leaving, fresh elephant dung was on the ground so one was very nearby. Didn't hear a sound despite its obvious size so I can totally understand why people end up too close sometimes and startling them. I definitely have a strong dislike of the elephants being chained up and used to let tourists ride them etc. People ought to know better in this day and age

      I actually haven’t visited Matale, but I did pass through when I was driving from Sigiriya to Kandy. All those statues of monks are called the first 80 monks who became followers of Buddha and became arahat or enlightened. They are of different sizes representing the 89 different monks. The Blue one is the Mugalan arahat thero, there is one looks like BUddha called Kashyapa maha rahath thero. Mugalan and Sariyuth arahat theros are the most significant two monks in Buddha's life as they represented the two most important positions at this time. They both had special abilities Mugalan was able to use different powers to do miraculous things like air travel. Sariyuth there was only second to Buddha in wisdom.

  • @dusq123
    @dusq123 ปีที่แล้ว

    Reality is pretty simple. Sariyuth & Mugalan were very famous monks always see next to Buddha in paintings and statues. Mugalan was dark skinned and Sariyuth was light skinned. In ancient south asian arts, dark skin is depicted with blue. Like some of Hindu gods.

  • @TruthSeekerUK9

    You were absolutely spot on, mate.
    I grew up in SL and didn't notice much. However, now I see how bad and cruel it is to chain a giant but sentient animal to a chain. Especially during the must season. Some cut and bruise their legs badly because of the chains.
    Temples should completely ban this century long evil practice.
    You see this midget elephants because the healthy bull elephants have been taken out from the gene pool for thousands of years, leaving the weaker and smaller ones to run the show.😢

    • @TheWanderLife
      @TheWanderLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I would really love to see an end to it to be honest. I think first and foremost tourists really ought to know better and should stop paying to ride elephants. This will go some way making people think twice about setting up these sorts of businesses, but certainly a lot of work has to be done in terms of education and general thinking towards these animals. There are plenty of things that we need to get better at in the world, so there's no immediate remedy, but it would be good to see progress on these issues you know

    • @TruthSeekerUK9
      @TruthSeekerUK9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheWanderLife Wow!!
      Such beautiful words.
      Yes, 100%. Elephants should be banned from taking part in religious parades. It's a tradition that originated in regions like Kerala in South India.
      SL is a majority Buddhist country and Buddha's teaching was fundamentally about Avihimsa " Kindness towards all living beings".
      It would be really sad if SL try to copy what's happening in Thai Temples where Elephants and Tigers are tortured daily to entertain tourists.
