I am a giant Groucho fan. Believe it or not, I think Jim Carrey occasionally comes close to Groucho's cynical and hilarious attitude. In The Mask, he does the dancing, the sarcasm, the wit, the humor in the Marx mode.
I think they are the Jack-in-the-Box antenna balls. It's a fast food restaurant in So Cal. Their food was so bad they had to give away gifts so you would buy it. My mom got a 8 piece set of glass mugs from them.
I remember as a boy watching Groucho wear that ridiculous golf hat for years and years. Then one day he started wearing a beret, which he wore for the final four or five years of his life.

And for all your rooting for "equality", if society could be dialed back pre-"lib" to a time where men made enough to support a household and women stayed home to raise their kids instead of handing them over to day care workers and babysitters, you'd be shocked at the number of women who could gladly give up the rat race to be stay-at-home moms, taking care of their babies themselves, raising large families of kids and tending to the home fires.

What really gets me about these interviews is that they were all real. Dick Cavett was a terrific interviewer and when he interviewed these show business giants he was honest with them. I watched interviews of this show spanning from Groucho Marx to Jimi Hendrix and they all share something in common. They were clean and truthful, as well as being a little funny. Today you got Jay Leno and other people who just do haste interviews. They feel fake, rushed and forced. They pale in comparison.

This was a long damn interview, and I remembered, a TV show in a 1-hour timeslot ran about 48 to 50 minutes total. The rest of the airtime was commercials. Today its rare for an hour long TV show to be more than 40 - 42 minutes of programming.

I have watched all the links to this episode with Groucho and his yellow shirt..while I love his movies and his TV show...I find him VERY RUDE especially to Truman Capote...and Mr. Capote kept his cool.

David James no he wasn't. He just had a very cool and suave way of speaking, which I love. He was very attractive and sexy in a boyish way, also. These days interviewers speak way too quickly at machine-gun speed and people generally speak too quickly because they're neurotic and self-absorbed. So true about the focus on their legacy -- but that did give MLK leverage with LBJ where The Civil Rights Movement was concerned. In all fairness, I don't think LBJ would've worked to pass any of the historic legislation had he not truly believed in it. Dick Cavett always seems stoned. He seems a nice guy, but kinda slow and vacant. He also forgets things he was going to say.
David James no he wasn't. He just had a very cool and suave way of speaking, which I love. He was very attractive and sexy in a boyish way, also. These days interviewers speak way too quickly at machine-gun speed and people generally speak too quickly because they're neurotic and self-absorbed. Give me the slow, mellifluous tones of Cavett and Groucho any day over the screeching, steamrolling squwaking of the modern day late night TV hosts and presenters.

Nobody was interested in the "love story" in A Night at the Opera... Thalberg is so overrated. Most of all by Groucho. The pictures did go downhill after he died, they acted as if they lost their mentor.
