    I'm an engineer who loves watches. I'm not a pilot, racing driver or diver. So this beautiful watch appeals. Although sadly engineers can't afford £10k on a watch! 😅

      From an engineering and value proposition point of view, I prefer Archimede Outdoor Antimag Ti (on my wrist), Sinn 556 or Damasco D30. All wear also fine dressed up, if needed.

      Gosh....I'm an engineer with 7 watches in that range. If you can't afford a £10k watch as an engineer...you might be doing something wrong. Here in the US we have a STEM shortage and you can pretty much choose your salary.

    Wonder if Adrian knew the price at filming? They are pushing it price wise and in 2023 at the luxury end it’s inexcusable not to have micro adjustment. Especially for a watch you are always going to keep on the bracelet. The watch looks great and good to see them do such a good job on it.

    Great video (as always). I just put my deposit down for the Silver Vsn. It seems they now have the option to choose the micro-adjustment or stay with the one shown at W&W. Do you guys think I should go with the micro-adjustment? Will it make the watch look or feel any different?

      I kinda like the one of W&Ws that Adrian shows 😍 so, refined and well done 👍 people complain about this type but over the nautilus they never complain about the pricr 🫣 although the price is much more and the movement is not a high end horlogerie manufacture anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️ (5711)

  • @nickd.3868
    @nickd.3868 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If I'm not mistaken, the movement is modified by IWC and based on ETA 2892 manufactured by ValFleurier. The movement is somewhat in-house but not totally. I think the watch is to expensive. I would expect a totally in-house movement at that price point or between 8-10k with the current movement.

    I think it's a great step to revive the Genta design again. I was crying to see the 'new' (now 'old') one after the famous 3239 iteration - which is still the best looking Ingenieur today imho. This brand new 38901 is very true to the original Genta design and I kind like it. BUT I think there are multiple problems: They have heavily increased the price, the way cheaper Pilot's watch Mark XX has the same movement and even the great adjustable clasp. And their just mentioned Pilot's watch is nowaday more iconic to me as they kept this simple design for years with just slight improvements. So for me this is the way better deal if you want an IWC with a great Inhouse movement with a much better clasp design.

      What? 7000Chf max

    • @stu632
      @stu632 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@polygoncoco For me they have been slightly overpriced in the past, but not too bad. 12,000 is ridiculous and an extra 3000 for titanium is unfathomable. That is almost half the price of what this should cost and half the price of say a Rolex OP 41. They can't justify it and the pricing has put me off IWC. That and not listening to their audience, the formula is simple.....Display back, micro adjustment on bracelet, Genta design, descent water rating (could be 150) and a competitive price point 7 or 8000 chf.

    Very rare to see a new edition better than the original one. Although I love the purity of the first Genta ingénieur, I really like the new model, thinner and more comfortable on the wrist. The closed case back is not an issue for me as I never look at the movement when there is an open case back. I also think that price is high but justified in my view, as IWC is a serious watch brand I have always admired (not to be compared with Chopard 😅). Also think the Ingénieur is more of a tool watch than the RO or the Nautilus, refined but more discreet and under the radar.
    The green/blue dial is beautiful but purchased the black dial version which is more suitable for me.

IWC made the statement that they specifically left out the micro adjust in favor of aesthetics of the clasp area and to keep it slim. Adrian I have follow you for years. Bought a few watch base on your videos. I don’t sell watches. I can’t. My sbgh269 sexy though thick. Gets no wrist time due straps issues that’s no good. I would love to wear it other than just gazing on the dial. Any recommendation?
    Ps great vid as usual.

    It's sort of weird that many reviews don't even mention the 2013 version, the 3239 automatic, 40mm x 10mm thickness model, that is very similar to this one. The new one is a refinement of that design, while everyone seems obsessed with the Genta story, I wonder if they even know anything about the evolution of more recent versions?

    only downer 12.700 euros … and no micro adjustments … do you think the price is justified versus a 5 digit omega, rolex ? or do you think versus a royal oak or a nautilus the ingenieur 40 sl is still a real bargain?

    Looks cool. No adjustment on the bracelet and is that, shock horror, pins? The Aqua green blue is nice.

    One of the things that we have in common is that we both love tool watches. They are simple, convenient, masculine and practical.

    Probably not too many people still reading the comments now that already posted about the butterfly clasp - but the CEO of IWC announced March 30th that the micro adjust clasp will be available as an accessory for the Ingenieur later this year.

    Just love it. My favorite is the titanium one. As an engineer, I already have the Railmaster. This will be my next. Unfortunately Rolex discontinued the Milgauss before I could get one

    Yes its a little late, but I'm still stoked to get one. That Aqua dial is gorgeous! Adrian, you are a class act. Kudos, my friend!

    Thank you for this review. I knew IWC was a good watch maker but a Gerald Genta watch, wow. I will consider this one since it has a rough sexy style.

    I wanted them to release this so badly, but they can jog on at this ridiculous price point

    Brilliant! I love it! The case and bracelet are nicely improved but prefer the dial, indices, hands and logo/text of the original. Won't stop me from grabbing one though....but now the which colour? hmm....

    Love almost everything about this watch, but it is hard to agree with the 12000 CHF price tag.

    It is stunning, I just wish they had included a micro adjustment in the bracelet.
