Its a fact South Africa is the richest country on the African continent and this is not a slight against mother Africa and this should not be a surprise at all. The global economic system is such that there are Economic centres such as the West and countries that are peripheries (underdeveloped and developing countries). One important characteristic of economic centre is that there is a concentration of capital in these economic centres. At the same time you have a centre within peripheral economies. South Africa is a centre within a periphery. That is why we have the biggest concentration of capital on the continent. Our GDP is number 1 on the continent and we boast the largest pension fund in Africa. South Africa is classified as a middle income country with a GDP ranking of 41 globally - even better than some European countries. Our private sector is massive relative to the continent and it is our saving grace in the face of a corrupt and incompetent political elite. Whilst South Africa's wealth is concentrated in Gauteng and Western Cape, the level of economic development around the country is still good. Lastly, South Africa was actually a nuclear power before the democratic Government voluntarily to discontinue our nuclear program.
I will call you Lerato. It means love in Tswana . You have experienced the full diversity of our country. I am sure you can now see why we call us the rainbow nation. Hope the weather gets better so you can properly experience Cape Town. For the best fish, go to hout bay in Cape Town
Dont be shocked almost everyone you meet is from Zimbabwe. According to estimates, there is over 5 million Zimbabweans in SA, 90% of them illegal in the republic. Thats 35% of Zim population living and working in SA. Unfortunately Zimbabwe economy has not been doing well for the past 20yrs. As a result, majority of Zimbabweans have migrated to SA looking for greener pasture. They end up clashing with local fighting for job opportunities. The employers tend to higher them at low salary, that leaves South africans jobless while foreigners are all working for low salary. As a result, Zimbabweans dont get along with south africans even when they work in their own country. I have never seen a Zimbabwean with a South african friend.
@@justicet4All yes, I heard about the issue between Zim and South Africans. Regarding salaries and jobs, that’s kind of what was happening in the states as far as illegal migration in general.
