This new one looks... no. Just no. The fact that they're promoting it as a sequel is laughable. It's a cheap Direct To DVD remake. Bottom line.

The movie is actually pretty good. It's a bit less intense than the original. The girl is pretty and the photography has lots of nice blues and greens. The extras are worth seeing and show how to make a low budget movie for DVD that looks good. It was shot in South Africa and many different people were involved, such as stunt coordinators, set designers, and CGI artists.
I didn't know there was a sequel until I saw the trailer for the 3rd installment. This looks like a low budget remake of the first one, I think I will skip 2. The trailer for 3 looks a little more promising.

I remember there was talks about a *Deep Blue Sea* sequel since the late 2000s to the early 2010s, but the story was actually much more different. The story would be set in New York City and the the whole island would be flooded via a hurricane where a bunch of sharks got washed up in the flooded city. And there would be a particularly focused group of people trying to salvage whatever they can find from the city all the while trying to escape from the sharks. But there was no mention if these sharks were just normal wild sharks that got caught up in the wrong swimming route or if they were genetically modified from escaping from a nearby underwater testing facility.
that was tell me about it looking crap and very bad, happens these days a lot of sequels prequels or make the old movie the same with new actors...!! Movies go to hell these days. I love the oldies retro the most 50s - 60s and some of the 80s 90s a small number of movies from 2000s imo.!

The CGI in the original was poor too. It cost the same as Jurassic Park and came out six years later. The animatronic sharks were excellent though.
