The first time i heard and saw David Lee Garza was at Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie, Texas. Not only did i hear his music but it was the first time i heard Tejano sing in English , “ I ve got a never ending love for you” - Ram Herrera. I was naive , growing up in North Texas we weren’t allowed to joke around or speak in spanish. Now that the stations focus on Norteno and cumbia i miss the Tejano from the 90’s. Thanks rock for the show
Just curious, was it your parents or the school system that did not allow you to speak Spanish? Im 66 years old and grew up in South Texas. I have many family in the Dallas Alington area. Thank you.
@@Rocknrolljamesband I believe another Canadian is tuning in last name "Quintanilla" first name George. Saturday he mentioned Canada and "eh". Eh is PCT professional canadian talk!

Great video 👏👏👏👏 y el original accordion player de grupo Mazz Frankie Caballero, I bet he’s got stories de a madre carnal, he’s played with many big names Mazz , Bobby Pulido, Jay Perez and Roberto Pulido and more check him out .
A lot of Tejanos use the same term for people from Mexico. That doesn't make it right but the difference is they don't sing. Jay is very vocal on equality for Tejano music on the radio stations.
Damn bro, many want to know the beeped out word .my respects to Rock for beeping it out to avoid conflict .I'm pretty sure the guessing by many is correct. We should never forget our roots whether it be Spain or native Azteca now known as Mexican decent. I love history of the new world. 💪😷👍🙏
I’m not sure if this question has been asked during this series, but a question I have for Mr. Velasquez is why is it that Los Musicales haven’t ever received a Grammy , in his opinion. David Lee Garza has received one on his solo project a few years ago, and deservedly so, but all the years Los Musicales have pumped out great music, and not one Grammy. It’s just a question I’d like his take on. Great interviews so far!
In the 80sand90s I don't remember them going to Florida and Ohio.thats why .la mafia la sombra majic where slot more popular .cause these guys wouldn't leave Texas
Yes it is disappointed to see the music vanish. A lot of these people who have been in the music business do not give new bad ass musicians chances. The first thing that they say is I've been in the music industry for over 30 years and shit on you by not opening the door to you. I've been there before. Hispanics do not help one another in this industry.
I am with him when he talks about quality and talent but the thing is that the music industry has taken advantage of a lot of artists for decades, and i am talking about big time artist that have been taken advantage of by the labels. Good interview 👍...you'll should watch Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins talk about the industry. 👋
I remember when producers would record albums back in the day like producing Mazz in 1995 I don't remember the title of the CD but it was very professional it had Estupido Romantico. Also Jerry de la Rosa recording Jay Perez excellent cds.😪😪
When you can't adapt to the new technology you get left behind, musicianship is about being creative, don't end your own career cause of new things. You don't have to use all of the technology just some that will get you to the next level.
Damn bro ,the more I see and hear about modern technology destroying the music industry sales is sad.no sound like the 80's through 2000. it was the best imo .mazz ,la mafia ,la sombra ,Roberto pulido,la fiebre and xcelencia to name a few.great era to me.💪😷👍🙏
It's truly sad that slowly but surely is getting away from the way how albums are recorded, the brain storming that would happen when recording a song. Like gibby said you record one song at home and people go off of that, and not pay attention to the quality of the recording or the most important thing the musicianship
Studios kinda did themselves in, Back in the day 15 grand to record in a studio 12 trax cause tape was expensive, Studios now use digital so for 12 trax no tape 22 Grand...huh?
If Covit 19 is ever under control studio sound correction equipment will not help during a concert. I love Tejano music but the quality of sound has taken a serious decline. The concert is where the sound quality most important. Let’s work on this .
