Stephen Hawking: Genius at Work | Roger Highfield and Martin Rees in conversation with Alex O'Brien

Author and science journalist Roger Highfield's recent book, Stephen Hawking Genius at Work, is a behind-the-scenes tour of the inner sanctum of one of the world’s most prominent scientific thinkers. Weaving together seminal papers and items from his life, the collection seeks to explain his theories and give us a peek into the mind of one of the greatest minds in modern science. In conversation with author and competitive poker player Alex O'Brien, Highfield and Astronomer Royal Lord Martin John Rees, they celebrate the life of the best-known scientist of modern times.
Roger Highfield is the Science Director of the Science Museum Group and member of the Medical Research Council. He is also Visiting Professor of Public Engagement at the Dunn School, Oxford, and the Department of Chemistry, UCL. Highfield has written ten books, including Virtual You and Stephen Hawking: Genius at Work.
Martin Rees is a physicist and cosmologist. He directed the Institute of Astronomy, was Master of Trinity College, and co-founded the Centre for the Study of Existential Risks. He has been president of the Royal Society and is a member of the House of Lords. He has written numerous books and articles with recent works including The End of Astronauts (with D Goldsmith) and If science is to Save Us.
Alex O’Brien, a science writer, is the vice-chair of the Association of British Science Writers and creator of the UK Young Science Writer Award. She is also an internationally competitive poker player. In her book The Truth Detective, a non-fiction science book on critical thinking, she combines her passions for science and poker.
