That's exactly why Hugh Dennis is my favourite contestant to date. He tried to outthink almost every challenge, and was regularly penalised for it.
And he's totally correct about the mirror. All kinds of hell would break loose if we started treating the images in mirrors as real things 😁
100% I remember him from Outnumbered and this is without a doubt my second favourite appearance of his in a show, he just thinks the furthest out of the box
The fact that Greg penalised Hugh on most occasions on which he would have rewarded Rhod is a little frustrating though.

Hugh felt like he was trying to be genuinely smart in his outthinking about the tasks, while Rhod felt more like he was just trying to f*ck around and hope he had the quickest solution that got him out of doing anything. Which WAS sometimes funny and sometimes worked out really well (like tying Alex up), but when it was happening nearly every single task (including tasks where he just flat out ignored the rest of his team in favour of his own plan), it got a bit annoying.
Hugh's reasoning was sound. How did Perseus slay Medusa? He used his shield as a mirror so he didn't see her directly and turn to stone.
Noel's "Shall I come with you? Do you need money" is peak parental friend energy.

Never can accuse him of being cheap and not offering like he just expects Alex or Greg to just buy whatever he asks.

That rug pull of “eat your exotic sandwich” is probably my favourite moment from this show
My jaw dropped when that happened, but I'm still a bit surprised that it didn't occur to any of them that they might have to eat it, since a lot of the food challenges involve eating something or making something for Alex to eat. Of all the contestants, I bet Rhod Gilbert would have thought of it: he was quick-thinking and devious like that.

Task: That sounds vaguely like a torture task. Largest reaction from Alex in the most creative way wins.
Wish there was a compilation of Alex giving the 'weird' look to the camera when a contestant does something stupid or asks a dumb question.

Jo Brand is an amazing contestant in that she was intelligent and cunning enough to have won the series, but just didn't give a shit. Ie: "We'll use our own system."
You see Jo once, you've seen her in everything. She just actively tries to lose anything she's in. Possibly funny the first time you see it, but incredibly cowardly the 50th. It's pretty clear she's just afraid of trying and failing at this point.
@@CrashSable If Jo was scared of trying and failing she would never have changed career to become a stand-up comedian. It’s just her schtick. It’s not for everyone but then again not every comedian’s schtick is for everyone.
@@CrashSable every comedian has a schtick mate. I can't tell you how many time I've heard Greg Davies' doctor story. Also, he constantly calls himself fat and middle aged, same as Jo. Yet I love them both. Maybe it's not for you - let's try and remember comedy is subjective.

It would be interesting to see a compilation of tasks seemingly done well, but then you realise they did the task wrong (like Rose Matafeo not building the brick tower tall enough which cost her any points)

Hugh's idea of using the mirror is like the picture "this is not a pipe" with a picture of a pipe. Its not a real pipe. Its a drawing of a pipe.
I love Jo Brands attitude to the whole of taskmaster - putting as little effort in as possible

She was too lazy to read the tasks, she didn't move until she thought of a way to complete the tasks without moving. She went to the toilet during a task. Jo Brand is one of my favourite contestants as she did whatever she wanted to do

Why do you keep editing Jessica's walk like that now? One of the funniest bits about it is Kerry asking what happens if we fall off and everyone laughs, then Alex says the person walking will not be blindfold so they should be fine.

It’s such a good concept for a show/competition….either contestants don’t think about the task properly or completely overthink to the point of failure, it genuinely highlights the hidden character traits of certain celebrities.
The Taskmaster jumping up and helping Jessica when she fell warms my heart. 😁😁
He's just in character, he's not a monster. I wouldn't imagine an actor not helping another that got injured just because their characters were enemy.

When I saw Alex building a playing card bridge, all I could think was, "There is strength in arches."
That segment where Hugh has to draw that lady genuinely gave me the best belly laugh in a while.
I think Hugh did Taskmaster to have a lovely time and get out of the house.

With the Truth, Lie, and Brag task, the first question you should ask is one with an obvious answer, like "Are you sitting on a chair?" "Are you wearing black shoes?", because then the way they respond will tell you which one they started with and it will be easier to go from there. The way I would go from there is I would ask relevant questions when they would respond truthfully and throw away questions the other two times so that later on I wouldn't have to worry about remembering if I had to write down the opposite of one of the answers.
When I first saw the "Get to know this person" task I expected the first question to be something basic. What is Alex's last name? What TV show is this for? How many noses on your face?
“Are you a man?” Would have been a good first question. Truth, lie or brag would have been obvious

Determine what phase the answer will be on: Make your first two unique questions, "What is 1+1?" and "What is 2+2?". This will allow you to determine if the current phase is true, false, or brag. Now you know the context of the answers that are given. Any time you're not on True, ask irrelevant questions to get back to True.
You could just ask "are you a man" right. The answer would either be "no" a lie. "Yes" the truth. Or something like "I'm the best man ever" a brag.
Just any question with a clear, simple answer. I’m surprised neither team did that, but I guess they were just trying to gather information quickly

Baby food is anything cooked and pureed to a texture a baby can easily eat it. It doesn't have to be commercially produced.
A long time ago I babysat for a lady in exchange for room and board. She would tell me in the morning what to make for dinner and I would blend some of the food to a puree and feed it to the 14 month old (they both worked long hours). Never had a problem. He liked it, too.

Hello there, I am Hugh's Lawyer, I hereby urge that my client, Hugh Denis, did not cheat in his task. What was seen in the mirror was a Virtual Image without real intersection of Light Rays hence it was a virtual image and not real image, hence he is innocent.
I love it on some Tasks where Alex has to force people to say , 'Time starts now' eg Mel and the Pagoda

I was lucky enough to watch series 9 as the episodes came out from a saint who uploaded them, but I loved that throughout the tasks, Jo Brand, rarely gave a fuck. She was always a strong competitor, but never exerted more energy than needed to lift a 10lb dumbell lol.
For the ball throw, I would have thrown the ball off camera in one direction and had some one run it around and throw it to me from the other direction. 24k miles in one throw!

I know I've commented this before but I can't stop emphasizing it. When the US version of this was announced, me, being an American, was extremely excited. Little did I know, the American version turned out to be an awful monstrosity, which would best to used as a torture device in North Korea.
The US version was terrible, from contestants to show runners. The NZ one isn't bad, but the Alex-persona of that one takes some getting used to, and the task master is not on level with Greg. Or maybe it's just me, who knows.

@@skuzlebut82 Yeah, Alex is in the US one, but Reggie is a terrible task master, and the NZ version has that dude who's trying way too hard as the alex of that show. Guy is not that bad as task master though.
I'd live to see a one off Taskmaster, do t care who else is brought back as long as David and Jo brought back as a couple.
