    I freaking love this song. It frequently gets kind of overshadowed by Dogs but theres so much to love here. The keyboard intro (and tone choices throughout), those drum fills and snare hits, that guitar tone and agressive choices, the lyrics of course, the brief return of the "stone" echo from Dogs, but i think my favorite part has to be the way the last word of each line smoothly transitions into Wright's keyboard tone. Just brilliant. Okay, almost favorite. My favorite line: "Wave after wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream."

      This song is chalk full of profound verses and the musical craftsmanship is brilliant. Thanks for watching. P.S. For me, the ‘Dogs’ guitar work and the last 3 minutes of the song made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, but I can easily your point too. ‘Sheep’ is outstanding.

    “Bleating and babbling I fell on his neck with a scream”
    The lyrics are so powerful! And followed by an actual scream that blends amazingly with the music!
    I remember this album in 1977 like it was yesterday when I was a child. I spent several days listening to it repeatedly being completely mesmerized by the power, darkness and beauty of this album.
    Thanks a lot to make me live again this moments. I agree with your rating, this is a fantastic song, only slightly surpassed maybe by the sublime Dogs.
    Carry on the good work and your adventure in the Pink Floyd universe. There are many more jewels to discover either in older albums - like Meddle/Echoes for instance - or in the more recent The Division Bell and I’d love to watch your reactions.

      I couldn't agree more with your sentiment about the lyrics and the overall power of this song. "Sheep" is a masterpiece that has the remarkable ability to transport us back in time, evoking memories and emotions as if it were just yesterday.
      The entire "Animals" album, possesses an unparalleled blend of power, darkness, and beauty that resonates deeply. Your description of being completely mesmerized by it mirrors my experience.
      I appreciate your kind words and your enthusiasm for Pink Floyd's music. You're absolutely right; there are many more jewels to discover in their vast discography. I look forward to continuing this adventure, uncovering the hidden gems and timeless creations that define this iconic band's legacy. 🌟🎶

    I love how Sheep ends with the music of the revolution fading out and gradually being replaced with the same old same old grazing in the fields. Also I agree with your rating of the three songs on this album. It's crazy how Pink Floyd can make an album where the lowest rated song is an A+.

    • @llarose
      @llarose  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And the birds happily singing again. Brilliant. I have never rated an entire album. If I start to perhaps doing these types of videos more, I will have a new section for entire storybook albums. 'Animals' as a whole is a 'Masterpiece' Thanks for watching.

    Once again, yes, PF is the best band that ever was, lol. I've been going through your reactions in the last few days. Sheep and Dogs are my favorites from this album. I know that you have received many comments about Echoes-and here is another one, lol. I highly recommend that you listen to both the studio version and then also watch the live at Pompeii version. This is the song that was the start of their masterpiece journey. Really enjoying your channel!

      Yes, Echoes has been mentioned countless times. I'll be sure to give the studio and live versions of a good listen. Pink Floyd's music is a journey in itself, and it's fantastic to have you along for the ride on the channel! 🎶🚀

    I don’t comment on every video, Larry, but I’ve truly enjoyed your journey through Animals, and Pink Floyd in general. Regarding Gilmour’s comment about telepathy with Wright, I think this is particularly evident in the live performances of Echoes, from the 1971 version at Pompeii all the way through the Gdańsk version in 2008. Famously, (and maybe you know this) Gilmour has said that he’ll no longer play the piece after Wright’s passing-I bet this is probably the reason.

    • @llarose
      @llarose  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for joining me on this journey through Pink Floyd's 'Animals' and their music in general. I couldn't agree more about Gilmour and Wright's musical telepathy. It's like they shared a musical soul. And yes, it's deeply touching how David Gilmour has chosen not to perform 'Echoes' after Richard Wright's passing. It's a testament to the profound bond they had and the magic they created together.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

  • @toddwebb6216

    A masterstroke of an album. The heartbeat sound of Waters, versus the scream of Gilmore's guitar, tells the horror of being brought to slaughter. The lyrics are mind bending. The feel of dread in Wrightś keyboard is terrifying,and the masterful punctuation of Mason, encapsilates a dystopian reality of... today.

    • @llarose
      @llarose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've captured the essence of "Sheep" and the entire Animals album beautifully. Pink Floyd's ability to create a haunting and thought-provoking atmosphere is masterful. They all came together to convey a powerful and dark narrative. It's incredible how their music remains relevant and reflective of societal issues, even today. Thanks for sharing your insights! 🎶🐑🎸

    Great analysis. This was the pinnacle of Roger's bitterness with society in GB (a general lyrical attitude that began with "Wish You Were Here, then carried forward to a slightly lesser degree with "The Wall"). When you get around to the Waters-less Division Bell, you'll find a definite trend towards hope and reflection. FYI...many will comment on the amazing bass work on Pigs and Sheep - here's why: David Gilmour played bass and lead guitar on both tracks, with Roger doing rhythm guitar and some sound effects). This album really acts as a showcase for Nick and Richard as well. Start to finish, this is my personal favorite PF album (followed closely by DSOTM, Division Bell, and WYWH).

    • @llarose
      @llarose  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "Sheep" and "Pigs" indeed showcase Roger Waters' commentary on society, and it's interesting to note the roles each band member played in creating these tracks - a testament to their versatility and ability to evoke different emotions.. It's always fascinating to see how their music resonates with people. 🎶🐑. Thank you for your insights!

      @@llarose You're welcome. PF never wrote music to simply listen to - they wrote things you could feel as well. They put as much effort into subsurface sounds and effects as they did to the primary melody/chorus structure. True listeners revel in the complexity of their compositions - they build sonic and lyrical worlds, and it's up to you to decide how to interpret them. Thanks for YOUR insights as well.

    Absolutely love the chord progression at the end! However something I missed the first dozen times I heard this song was the absolute perfectly seamless transition from Rogers voice into the synth at the beginning of the song where he sings "into the air" but it goes aaaaaairrrrrrrrrr-synth...... Just listen again if you missed it!!

    "The dogs are dead! You better stay home, and do what you're told. Get out of the road, if you want to grow old."
    ...
    The Sheep overthrow the Dogs, and become authoritarian dogs themselves.
    Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
    Waters is saying it's an endless cycle.

    • @llarose

    If you like the Gilmour /Write interaction look for "ECHOES". Live from Gdansk, its a bit like Dueliing banjoes . After Richard Wright dies ( shortly after this show) Gimour has refused to play it ever again. Its from the Meddle album 1971 1 side of the album at over 20 min long. It was written by Gilmour and Wright. It started the change in style for the band, then the next album was the legendery Dark Side of the Moon a record 14 years in the Billboard 100.

    The first three lines are the lord's prayer the rest is not. if you watch echoes live from Pompei you will see how good Nick is.
    The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
    He makes me down to lie
    Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by
    With bright knives He releaseth my soul
    He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
    He converteth me to lamb cutlets
    For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger
    When cometh the day we lowly ones
    Through quiet reflection and great dedication master the art of karate
    Lo, we shall rise up and then we'll make the bugger's eyes water

    70s Floyd is some of my favorite music to ever be recorded in a studio. They were just on a different level that decade and everything is timeless. Too bad they couldn't sort out their differences and keep working together as a team. The Wall has some great songs on it, but as a whole it's not really my thing..too much of a Roger Waters project.

    • @llarose
      @llarose  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 70s era of Pink Floyd was indeed a golden period for music. Timeless classics. It's a bittersweet truth that sometimes creative differences can lead to the end of remarkable collaborations. While 'The Wall' might lean more towards Roger Waters' influence, it still contains some incredible tracks that resonate with today's society. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
