    Thank you for your very informative videos. I rebuilt my 1965 M20 using parts bought from you. The car is still up on jack stands and goes thru the gears nicely. My problem is my speedo cable seems to have grown about 3/8". It sticks out of the trans so far I can't screw it on. So I thought it came out of the speedo at the dash, so I attached it to the trans first, It was too long to go into the head of the speedo. Numerous attempts changed nothing, so I pulled the trans out and the pulled the tail housing off. Looked at the gear on the shaft and looked ok. The speedo gear is bottomed out against the housing. I'm lost, what's holding it from going in to where it belongs?

    I worked on a BW T-10 back in the 80s, the synchronizers that I removed had solid keys in them, the replacements had hollow stamped keys. I normally do automatics, Powerglides, 350s, 400s, and so forth. Four gears wasn't something that I enjoyed. I noticed that all the synchros you have been working with use the solid keys. Is there any benefit to using the hollow keys.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All early T10 units with hollow keys get replaced with Muncie solid ones. Later ST10 were solid. The stamped keys are sometime inaccurately made and tend to break.

    I've been watching your videos for a while now and I gain confidence that I can rebuild a manual transmission. I work on cars all the time, but never tackled a transmission. I have a 73 Nova with a 3 speed Saginaw, but on 3rd gear, at 50 mph, speedometer is at 80 - 90 mph. I purchased a 4 speed saginaw for $60, and want to rebuilt it. Would like your comments/thoughts. Also, is it seams very similar to the muncei, am I right? yes? no? Thank you. I enjoy your videos, thank you for taking the time, and sharing your expertise, even more, thank you for enabling others to learn how to rebuilt the best transmissions like experts.

      Very similar to the Muncie. But since it has no midplate more similar to the Mopar A833. My books covers the Muncie and Mopar transmissions

    Hi Paul, Great vid. Has there ever been a rebuild kit that included an aftermarket 5th gear overdrive in these boxes. Of course back in the day when gas was 35 cents a gallon this wasn't a concern. It would be really nice to have this upgrade in an original Muncie housing. thanks

    Update...... Everything is perfect since having the flywheel weight drilled for balancing. Thanks again.
    Quick question.
    With a muncie m22 build 400 small block. When doing a burnout with line lock. Would you suggest starting in 1st gear and slamming into 2nd with out using clutch?
    Or
    Just start burnout in 2nd gear?
    Thank you in advance and anxiously waiting for your answer on this. Lol

    So i'm a huge fan of the tremec T-56 because of the amount of overdrive it has in 5th and 6th gear. Not a huge fan on 1st-4th. Just out of curiosity would it be possible to have thegear ratios of an M-20 in a T-56? So sort of a M-20 only with a 5th and 6th gear identical to a T-56?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Austin W G-force transmissions makes some closer ratio gearsets for the T56 that would probably suit your requirements to something similar to the M20.

    • @TopAnimeGuy

    Gear Box Video, I have a Muncie M-22 out of a 1969 Pontiac G.T.O. The rears in the Tailhousing are stripped and I'm trying to replace them. My problem is it appears that the tailshaft is two pieces and I can't get the larger of the two gears off due to this. It originally looked like the separate shaft have a hex bolt in it but, it doesn't appear to be so. How do I separate these two parts?

    Hello Paul, hope you and your family are doing well. I am in the process of putting a 4.8 LS engine in my 73 Nova and would like to use my 4 spd Muncie. I need help in finding the right flywheel and pilot bearing. Mcleod has a thicker flywheel that could be used; there are also extended pilot bearings or hydraulic systems, but too expensive. Also, looking for a way to connect the clutch linkage to the engine (thinking of making a bracket). Any suggestions/solutions? Thank you, God bless.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quiktime makes a bellhousing that gives the correct stack height for an older 4 speed. You still will have to do a hydraulic clutch or fabricate your own bracket

    Hate to leave a totally unrelated comment, so let me say again that I love your videos. I have a question though. What's your opinion on early oil changes in brand new vehicles? Various sources online say that you should change the oil within 500 miles, others say follow the regular schedule or manufacturer recommendation. Is there an authoritative opinion on this? Rather, what's YOUR authoritative opinion on this? Thanks a lot.

    • @anthonypavlak3527
      @anthonypavlak3527 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Engine oil. Yeah mine is a 6 speed manual. But I've been told by some helpful acquaintances that I should do my first oil change at 500 miles. My manufacturer manual says the on board computer will tell me when I need to change the oil. It is a manual transmission, 2014 Ford Focus ST

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Pavlak the problem with manual transmissions in general is that they don't have filters and non ferrous particles are not trapped by magnets. So its safe to say that 10K oil changes are a good start. No need to dump oil after 500 miles. The Ford Dual clutch "automatics" have been plaqued with a lot of issues, especially the 2014's.
