What an amazing piece of writing, also perfectly executed by Mike White as both writer and lead actor in these sequences. Can't say I identify fully with it, but as everyone else (probably) I do know loneliness, and this is simple some of the best, most complex literary treatment of it I've ever come across (along with Olivia Laings "The Lonely City". Also deeply moved by some of the comments here. One day we will all be seen, hopefully.
The ghost is seen episode and the monologue unfortunately apply so well to this show as a whole. One of the most criminally underrated series of all time IMO. Not every pearl is found indeed. Masterpiece!
I'm 43 years old and, until 9 months ago, I was a ghost. Then I found my Rick. Before, I didn't realize how dead I was inside. I'm terrified now of being alone again.
I remember my first love told me to watch this sequence ten years ago, when I was a junior in high school. We separated four years later and more than another four went by - He passed away from a disease I heard on facebook. Laurence, you had my heart you were the nicest guy in the world.
God this is so affecting and devastating. So sadly relatable. “Not every pearl is found”. 😞 And damn it this show deserved so much more of a fanfare than it got.
I’m so proud of you, Mike White, this is my favorite scene from the entire two seasons of the show. And there’s no show that I’m more excited About to see a new season of than the White Lotus. You are doing some really special things. Thank you for this. You bring something very special to our screens. Please never stop. We love you.
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this clip. PURE ART; grateful to experience it from my "favorites" queue whenever I want now. :) And here's hoping Netflix will adopt this project where it left off and make Season 3 a reality! We should write to them about it...
This was an amazing series. It was LIGHT and gritty instead of DARK and gritty like True Detective, GoT, Sopranos, etc. God I loved Enlightened. Best work of Luke Wilson's career for sure, and Laura Dern. The writing was soooo good and Mike hit a homerun. I really thought Dougie was such a tool in season 1 but then in season 2 I endes up LOVING him and he quickly became my favorite character.
+Mark Copeland One of the most sincere things on television in recent memory. Not likely anyone will pick it up for a continuation at this point, but there's always that little bit of hope.
Thanks for posting, I cried when the show aired. Now I'm bawling. I am that invisible pearl . . . Only hope hurts. Indeed. So poignantly stunningly written. I hope my sheen will be found, one day. Best voice over ever. To all the pearls out there, we hurts, we feel, we need finding xox
This voiceover is absolutely the best scene of the show. So much heart! Thanks.
This episode is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
Good Grief! I've watched this episode 3 times and I weep every time. It's so beautifully written. One the best shows on TV ever!

Kind of hoping against hope that someone like Netflix of Amazon picks this show up, but it's not very likely.
Mark Copeland It's been on Amazon Prime for awhile now, at least a year now.
