Should clean the HS too (but you probably did). It's 4GB of ram max. Connect to port 1 (not 0) to configure.
I've got all the stuff on the way to upgrade my XTM 5 with the Core2Quad, RAM, etc. I picked up a 4gb kit but wonder if the unit would support 8gb?
It could but I haven't tried it.
What is stored on the SSD? Is 120 GB overkill for this?
Well kind off if you are not planning on storing anything a smaller one will do and save a bit of cash
@@ProdyTech Thanks for the active reply 2 years after posting the video. Doing 2 of these upgrades now for a point to point VPN between sites.
What is the highest processor type supported by this device if I want to upgrade? And also the maximum RAM supported? Thanks
Well the Quad CPU Q6600 is the highest i have been able to install. You can go as high as 8gb of ram.
For the ram.. can i use any ddr2 rams?
Hi, I have have good results with memory compatible with Dell computers Optiplex 745, 755 models, for example choice would be Corsair DDR2 PC2-6400. Also the A-Tech memory diims work well. Here's the link for the A-Tech- Dim: amzn.to/3EwgtmM
What kind of real world throughput can the XTM 5 handle? Does this improve the performance?
What is the benefit from this upgrade? Is it still a firewall?
Good question. More horse power and you can run more packages and have more users at the same time. A set up like this can easily handle perhaps about 1000 clients. So it well worth it.
@@ProdyTech Is that CPU installed support AES-NI? I think it’s a requirement for running pfSense 2.5
@@JohnnieTycoon No more, see: www.netgate.com/blog/pfsense-2-5-0-development-snapshots-now-available
@@delfo2000 OH MY GOD!!!! That’s great news and now I understand the reason of this upgrade. Thank you for a great video, appreciate!!
What other CPUs are compatible?
There are several Socket 775 Celerons that are compatible. One of which is probably what this unit came with stock. They varied depending on the sub model, XTM 5 model 505, 515, etc.
105w cpu is gonna get hot, and a cpu and no aes.. :\
Well yeah, but here in DR in this hot weather without AC the unit works pretty well.
@@ProdyTech thanks for the news appreciate, I´ll upgrade my xtm 5
