- Ruby realized that "porch privileges" are for chumps lacking chutzpah. If the bouncer isn't there to check your ID and leaves the door wide-open, the club is no longer private.
And so, here we have Ruby's first appearance on the main stage. She's still a little hesitant but, with some practice, she'll get the hang of it in no time.
This is better than Olympic balance beam.

@@BirdSongsFromAroundTheWorld In one of the videos there's a bird going absolutly crazy about having a bear in her front yard, right near Patrick filming - all through the video; it's a Carolina Wren, if I remember correctly. So, yes, not happy with the bears eating all the treats.

It is cool to see Ruby's thinking process as she tries different methods to get at the seeds.
Yes, that's what impressed me too. Bears are known for their high intelligence level and it was on display here - the concentration was total at times.
I love how the bears just try to tip it to get the seed when they could easily take it down. So polite.
Ruby is quite the "gem". Most animals that balance have long tails to assist, not a little stub, ( not to mention such girth). Impressive.

A 9.5 for Ruby on the ' bear balance beam '. One slight bobble but two perfect dismounts. She would have been flirting with a 10.0 if she had gotten the bird feeder. Overall a fine effort.

I get you, I feel the same... I know that it's a "rule": wild animals belong to the forest and free spaces and we shouldn't encourage them to stay around humans. I don't know if I was able to follow this rule, there's a huge temptation... I feel that they do want such interactions.
I felt like I just wanted to pet her too when watching that. But bears need to be left alone. If one respects them, interactions are peaceful. Patrick knows what he is doing.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be against a little scratch... Problem is, they might want to keep you around after that... And evading a hugging bear is not a simple task. Too much love can kill...
But yes, I'd be easily a seduced candidate to scratch their back and their bellies, like puppies...
Ruby was determined to see inside bird feeder. I like the way she listened to you. Some how animals know when we speak gentle that we mean them no harm. Enjoy your day you have brightened mine.

It most definitely looks like Ruby was there as a cub. She knows too much. And she's a feisty little girl! You know how kids are lol. Very inquisitive. Nice that Ruby listens to you. She knows that Uncle Patrick is the king of his castle! ❤

Thanks, Patrick, for the very best 9 minutes of the day. My wife came to see what I was laughing at over the "watch a Simone video" comment. You seem to understand bear behavior very well. Ruby is getting bigger and eventually will bring her cubs to visit. It's clear that bears are pretty smart; she was seeking a way to steady herself with a handhold on the overhead, but it wasn't there. She'll figure it out.
Exactly she was looking for a top handhold... Very clever strategist analyzing the situation. Amazing thing, too, they could like us sometimes use force on the object, esp out of frustration, but no, all delicate touching, their patience is exemplary compared to most humans'.

She will figure it out. She is still quite young and not as experienced yet. Her effort was great but just not patient enough. I thought she tried to do a little bluff charge back up the stairs to see what you would do. I was scared for a second. But I know you have a plan. Great video to start my day as always Thank you for sharing these amazing bears with us. We just went to Blue Ridge mountains for vacation a few weeks ago and I was lucky enough to have a bear visit our cabin daily and feed all around our cabin. I think people have been feeding them. Because the same time every evening the it appeared to be the same bear and he seemed pretty confident.

@@nikkinicole5588 They have found them under vacation homes in Tahoe and Mammoth. Not bad, but probably not preferred. Not sure it is cold enough long enough in NC for bears to hibernate.
@@nikkinicole5588 - It's never happened before, I don't really know. Bears don't usually go into full-blown hibernation in this part of the country. It's more like a state of torpor from which they can wake to feed, defend themselves, &c. I just would rather avoid it, there's plenty of good spots in the woods. Thanks!

Patrick you are such a dear man❤️you genuinely care about your bear families and encourage them through their frustration and help setting boundaries. I’m experiencing up close and very personal wildlife that I never could on my porch like you thru videos. We’ve had mountain lions and their Kittens quite often because of the fires, food must be such a challenge and little water… so they’re coming down from the mountains looking for pets and anything rodent, they’re not nearly as entertaining when we see them, it’s a grab the dogs, kids and run in the house! You are a LEGIT bear whisperer…it’s such a pleasure & thx for sharing the videos.

When Ruby grows another 3-4 inches, she'll be able to reach the tray. I love the way she tested hanging on the horizontal crossbeam when she was on the pillar. If she steadied herself on that crossbeam with one paw, she could probably tip the tray with the other.

Such a lovely vid! Thanks to you, Patrick, we can see so well how these magnificent animals think and act. What a lot of people don't know is how super-intelligent bears are. You can see it a little bit here where Ruby is carefully analyzing whether there is anything she can do about that damned box. In fact, her concentration was so intense that for a moment she entirely forgot about that thin rail she was standing on (major points deduction on execution there, Ruby!) 😁 I wonder what she would do with some kind of complex object where it was in her interests to solve it. If she's like the bears in IQ experiments, she'd have it worked out in about 2 minutes lol!
