Jo Chandler - a comment on a website states that she died in 2017. The attack left her with brain damage and unable to walk. The suspected attacker was never charged or convicted. So sorry this clearly independent woman suffered such a fate and received no justice.

It featured a couple who had bought Ann Heron’s home after her murder. The woman said she could sometimes feel her presence in the house. Anyways, I tried to add the link for anyone interested but the channel received a copyright strike for all the content he was posting( old vhs shows that he’d taped) so his account is on hold for now I think.
I have always wondered who buys and lives in these houses when they know someone was killed there. The case of Georgina Edmonds who lived in Fig Cottage made me think the same thing. Imagine living in a house where someone was stabbed 40 times.
There was a documentary on channel 5 in 2022 about the Ann Heron case. Regardless of whether her husband Peter Heron was a murderer or not, he came across as a deeply unpleasant Narcissist. He'd been having an affair with another woman behind Ann's back and seemed like a stereotypical golf club idiot.
I think the fact that he has not spoken to Ann's children since tells you all you need to know. My theory is he hired someone (possibly those he was supposedly having the meeting with, hence the alleged alibi) to do it.

The case is invisible-aside from a blog entry from several years back where a woman gives vague details about it while saying how she proudly hikes alone/why men demand women don't whenever an attack like this happens etc. From the description it would appear to be a fellow hiker who was doing that walk-seeing as she was luckily found by the Dutch guy or surely she would have died her attacker could have come from pretty much anywhere it seems.

For those interested in the Ann Heron murder Channel 5 did a good 2 hour documentary about the case in 2022 including an interview with a private investigator who named a possible suspect.
the music playing on the radio on many crimewatch episodes brings back memories, forgot about all those songs, people really used their real voices to sing back in the 80s and before that. I hope all these cases have been solved/ will be solved.

Husband seems to have been the prime suspect-he was eventually charged but the case collapsed. There has never to my knowledge been any evidence that she was sexually assaulted or anything missing so the idea that some pervert or perverts spotted her & thought they would rape & kill her seems implausible, as does burglary. So you are left with either some random psycho waited until she went inside & then attacked her inside the house-if outside surely there would have been signs of a struggle & even then you would have thought she would have struggled inside. So the most likely scenario is she knew the killer or killers & went inside with him/them & she was attacked quickly from behind.

His affair with the bar waitress was spoken about, And he did marry again, 2 year's after Ann's murder. But his third wife passed away with Cancer. She was also Scottish and didn't want to go back to Scotland for her last day's. But Peter Heron took her back. She to had a family. My thoughts are with Ann's family.
Why did suspicion fall on the husband for the Darlington murder if his movements for the day were accounted for? Did the police suspect he had an accomplice or that the girlfriend was involved?
His movements weren't accounted for. Anne was murdered at around 5:00 pm. Her husband, Peter Herron left a meeting between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm. We don't exactly know as Peter Herron has revealed conflicting times over the years. After the meeting, Peter for some strange reason took a much longer circuitous route back to his office rather than a much simpler shorter straight route back which would have taken him past his house. Peter claims he found Anne's body at 6:00 pm, Anne's murder scene showed no signs of any struggle and that she likely knew her murderer which is backed up by the fact that none of her neighbours heard her dog bark which it often did at strangers. Should also be noted that Peter was having an affair at the time of Anne's murder.

Ann Heron murder is still unsolved. Police also charged and then subsequently dropped the charge of murder against her husband back in 2005.
