so genuine question, does it do damage to any of the mechanical parts? Like does the brakes need to be changed, or some things recalibrated? Because going from cruising speed to a complete stop that fast is bound to break something
Generally vehicles are designed to stop more than once. Even when locking the brakes, only the tires would need inspection. The most difficult situation for brakes is a long period of braking, like for example using your brake to maintain speed on a downhill. People have cooked their brakes this way.
As a truck driver, I can tell it can do the job more than once. At least until the brakes pads can and the system is not overheating (due to extensive braking).
"The Effect of Vehicle Weight on Stopping Distance." The heavier the vehicle, the more work the brakes must do to stop it, and the more heat they absorb. But the brakes, tires, springs, and shock absorbers on heavy vehicles are designed to work best when the vehicle is fully loaded. Empty trucks require greater stopping distances because an empty vehicle has less traction.
Reaction time to things far away from the sensor limit is just scary! Almost all human driver would slow down immediately if a bike suddenly enter their lane no matter the distance.
