In your defense, I was mixing monomyth and comparitive mythology in definition while you were speaking and if you hadn't corrected them in the video i'd have done the same mistake for a lot longer. Whoops.
21:50 - This sequence is also another one of those segments in games that have a second-person perspective. It's been done only a few times, but I still think it's one of the more interesting things to put in a game, because it just takes you a couple of seconds to adapt to. It feels so unnatural seeing yourself and your movement from another's perspective.
I just bought this game on Steam and played through it again and damn, I'm still having a hard time finding all the treasures I had trouble with as a kid.
You can tell the Jolie-movie references started from the get-go with the giant plexiglass wall in the main room at the start of the cutscene. I also don't blame the game for explaining King Arthur. You can't assume that everyone has the same cultural knowledge you have, so a quick recap helps people who didn't grow up with Anglo-Saxon cultural heritage.
A related note: as much as I like MGS3, I’m still annoyed that there is a minutes-long codec call explaining the story of the Garden of Eden, which Japanese audiences likely wouldn’t know as Abrahamic religions are a minority over there, but the kuwabara chant goes unexplained - which makes Volgin’s final scene make no sense unless you’re Japanese. I really think the English localization team should have rewritten that codec to be about kuwabara instead.
Yeah this motorcycle level works fine as a setpiece and doesn't super overstay its welcome. The second one...I couldn't beat on Hard. It's really awful.
I managed to get through it on Hard a while back, but I am never doing it again. There were some guy on Reddit saying you should always slow down to pick up medpacks, even if Zip says you're gonna lose the train. Thing is, he can warn you twice, but as long as you speed up a little after the second warning, it kind of resets his warning streak. That's a very effective way to pick up most, if not all of the medpacks on the level. I still don't like how much damage the enemies do to you, though... It's outrageous.

Zip doesn't even know who King Arthur is, are we sure this guy actually works for Lara and isn't some guy off the street

32:14 - goddammit, Croft - in the Latin Alphabet Jehova begins with an 'I'!
31:06 - His talents are: 14:29 and 14:32.

@@theenglishman Cross-cultural transliteration has always been a problem for games. And this is no exception.
Just a heads up, the playlist for this series doesn’t have the right episode one, the current video that should be “episode one” is private
Thanks, fixing that now.

@@SimplySimonLP I wish I had some advice for that second motorcycle level but it’s really just luck, albeit less so on the lower difficulties.
