Hate to say it Antonio because normally your outfits are well put together, but I do not like the denim button up with that jacket. I tailor my own clothes though. I understand most men may not have the time or see sewing skills, but it saves me so much money and I control the out come of clothing. Its relatively simple to learn the basics and then for the more advance stuff I still do take it to a tailor. Good video

Like in every professional relationship: avoiding disputes is King and like you said good communication is very important. Written communication is to be prefered because it's so much better structured than oral communication.

Gents, this advice is spot on in a number of areas. I am 55, have probably had 75+ custom garments made, mostly in London, Naples/Rome, Hong Kong, and Paris. Never Bangkok as I have heard about 80% reviews, all negative. Most importantly, two areas 1. Get a complete receipt that details the order, with fabric number and a small sample attached. If they hem and haw, threaten to walk, had to do this with Charvet in Paris, glad I did it.
Also had to do it at a Hong Kong tailor. Again, glad I did, avoids many disagreements.
Second, when you find the best, nurture the relationship. A picture of you in your last suit from him along with a great bottle of Scotch at the Holiday season will pay off in spades. Even if he does not drink, many of his customers do, and he will appreciate it.

I think number 3 is so important. Finding a tailor you can trust is not a short process. One of the keys I do when I have moved to a new area and I am looking for a new tailor is a bring a "practice" shirt. Usually it's a shirt that's been a little ill fitting for a long time and or don't really wear anymore. It's a shirt I don't care about. If it goes well, hey I got a shirt that was resurrected from the dead. If not oh well it was not an important shirt. It also gives you a common template now to discuss with the tailor on if you like their work but they just made a mistake. With a shirt done by them you can point out on the shirt where they need to take more in or if you bring a second shirt how you would like it done in comparison to the one they already did.
I just moved 6 months ago and have found a decent tailor. He nailed my practice shirt, and now he is on my second step which is bringing 2 shirts: shirt I have already had tailored by someone else and it wasn't quite right and I bring them either an shirt that has not been tailored or a new shirt to see how that goes. I see if they have nailed these two different shirts as well as if they have consistency and my shirts all fit similar/ they have a decent grasp on my body type. After that I will bring them my repeat business. I have a pricey Hugo boss shirt I bought brand new that I wanna get tailored. Since it's pricey for me I wanna make sure I put it in the right hands. I think it's better to have a few test shirts go through to make sure I get what I expect and that we are on the same page rather than have them ruin one of my favorite shirts first try because of failed communication on both our parts.

What i;m finding is that there are tailors who respect the customers wishes, and others who do what they want .. I've had tailors tell me they don't want to do the adjustments that the videos tell you to undertake... makes no sense to me.. i even had one tailor tell me that you can;t adjust the sleeve width, it's just the way it is!! Extremely frustrating, maybe it's just my area

I got a horror story for you. I remember taking a white dress shirt to a tailor store. I ordered online and I made a few measurement mistakes so I had to take it to a tailor. Granted, I've could have sent it back but I really needed for an casual event so I just tried a tailor for the first time. Now, the issue was the when I stretch my arms to the side it kind of had wings so I wanted to get the taken care of. The lady went ahead an took it and she calls me later that evening that it was ready. I get there, holy crap, I would have to be a stick to fit in it. I wasn 't too pleased and so I did ask for a refund but low and behold, no return policy. I asked her what could I do to make it better and she replied that I had to bring in my own measurements next time...what? She measured me and screwed it up bad but had the nerve to tell me I messed up. So I, in a polite way asked for the manager...she calls the cops. Later the cop takes me to his car...then let me go. I was like...ok, is this normal? Now nobody got in trouble but...yeah, I never gone to a tailor again. I just send my shirt back and have the ones that I ordered from alter it. All this over one shirt...

Return policy is the hallmark of a solid company? Please come to Israel and tell this to companies here. I challenge you to find one company or store here that has a return policy. The only way you can "return" clothes for example here is if the price tag is still on them and only to replace them. You can't really get your money back. Once you've handed it over it's gone. I once ordered a Kindle and didn't notice on the website they said I can't choose the color (it was in a really small font hidden among their messy excuse for a website, I actually had to get directions from them to find where it was written). I got it in white when I wanted it in black (and in the photos it was black). I couldn't convince them to replace it for me with a black one. Guys over there in the US are really, really lucky when it comes to this stuff.

    Hey Antonio,
Question related to this video - maybe for a future video: It's hard to find dress shirts off the rack that fit perfectly in every dimension. Which shirt dimension are easiest for a tailor to alter? If the neck and sleeves fit well, can a tailor easily remove extra material from the torso (ex. the dreaded flying squirrel look)?
For my neck/sleeve size, even slim fit shirts are too baggy.
Thanks for reading. Your input appreciated. Best,

Hello Antonio, thank you for another great video. I have two questions for you. First of all, I just bought a blue and white striped sports jacket (it reminds me a little of a regatta jacket, although the styling is a bit more Italian), now would it be appropriate to wear this when going out in the evening, like to a bar or club (in the spring and summer of course, colours are way too light for winter and autumn)? Second question: what is your opinion on bracelets for men? Maybe I should point out that I'm 19 going towards 20 this summer so I guess I have a little more freedom when it comes to trying new styles. Thank you for your help and the amazing resources you provide us.

Nice video once again mr. Antonio! I have a question, what would be your advice on wardrobe management when you are moving to another country? I will be migrating to another country soon and I cannot simply bring my whole wardrobe (suits and a ton of shoes, etc.) it would be impractical for me to bring everything. I would like to kindly ask what would your advice be on managing a wardrobe for this situation that will end up being versatile, stylish and practical? Hey Antonio, just today I went to go look at some suits for a formal party (a Quicenera). I'm a size 30 in length but the pants I like were a 32, and I was wondering if its ok to get them and just get them cut or should I always get the exact size? (I was thinking that they're already made how they're supposed to look/fit so I didn't get them, but what do you think)

Steven Butler To be fair, you shouldn’t hold the last one against them if you call their office out of the blue - but any professional should be willing toput aside 20 minutes to speak with a potential client at a set time
within a few days of calling.

Great I am checking out that article! I think one of the main problems I am having is that there just aren't a lot of options for Men's Tailors. Most of the places I have found are just a seamstress that has a bridal shop. I am sure they would be able to do the alterations but I also want to be able to build a relationship with the Tailor. Otherwise I might as well just order the suits from ModernTailor.
