One of my few regets is not having heard or seen Jerry Clower when I grew up in the 70's & the 80's. I simply didnt watch much TV. I was 27 when among a neighbor's recordings I discovered albums _Country Ham_ (1974) & _On The Road_ (1980). Well exasperated with the likes of Eddie Murphy, Andrew Dice Clay, & every other profane comic, Jerry Clower has been a cool drink of water ever since. What I love most about him is how he has taken his story of growing up in Liberty, Mississippi & shown us all the life we knew as children is anything but boring. Sure, I didnt rub elbows with the rich & famous, & I didnt get to travel to many places. But Im proud & grateful for the life we knew growing up in our hometown Yours is the gift that keeps right on giving, Jerry. God Bless You 💜💜 *Rest In Peace:* Jerry Clower 1926-1998 Charlie Rich 1932-1995 Roy Clark 1933-2018 Jerry Reed 1937-2008 Ronnie Milsap 1943-
Mississippi Gulf Coast here. My Papa talked about Jerry Clower & how funny he was. He knew him & only lived about 20 minutes down the road from his home outside Liberty MS. I had forgotten all about Jerry Clower & never heard him until a video popped up on my TH-cam feed. So glad it did. So good to hear him talk about McComb MS. Have watched several videos since seeing the 1st one a couple days ago. Thank you for uploading.
Join the Navy right out of high school and went to war. Never seen a banana or a football. Kids nowadays don't have any idea what a hard life is. Unless they're being abused. I grew up in the old ways. I was raised by my grandma and grandpa and an old house with 14 ft ceilings. A single wire hanging down from the ceiling with a light bulb on it. No indoor plumbing. We had an outhouse from the time I was in diapers until I was in 7th grade. But I didn't think anything of it I didn't know that everybody had running water in the bathroom in the house. I had a great upbringing. I was happy my brothers and sisters were happy.
RIP Jerry clower I'm 27 and been listening to you ever since I can remember with my grandparents you showed me how much comedy you could find in real life
Jerry's stories of his youth, like getting an apple and orange for Christmas, reminds me of similar stories my parents told me of being kids in the 40s, and my grandparents of being kids in the 20s. Nowadays we're lucky with all our modern conveniences, when folks like Jerry and my parents and grandparents remember not having running water or electric lights. God bless Jerry, he was funny and wonderful. His humor was clean and earnest, his style simple and warm. I consider him a fine example of a good Southern man. RIP Jerry, we miss you.
When I was about 11 or 12, my dad put in a Jerry Clower tape on and since then (about 13 years ago), I have been hooked on some Jerry Clower. He is definitely in my top 10.
When Jerry said he joined the United States Navy out of high school, there was a pause. Not one soul applauded or made a sound. Thank you so much for your service to our country Mr. Clower. God rest your soul.
I had the pleasure of driving Jerry around Memphis back in the day. I was late picking him up for his show at the convention center, and he incorporated my snafu into his show and made it funny. When it was time to leave for the airport, he sat up front with me. I asked why and he replied, "Oh, if I sit back there somebody might think I'm famous!" Then he lowered the passenger window, and pushed his head and chest out the window so he could wave with both hands while going down the road. He'd yell, "HEY EVERYBODY!!" and they'd yell "HEY JERRY!!" back at him, everywhere we went. It was hilarious! He was the friendliest, most outgoing and most generous of anyone I ever picked up, and the funniest comedian to see live in concert. God bless you, Mouth of the South.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry at olive branch one day he worked for ms chemical we were farming 3 thousand acres he wanted to trade with us he was the best man I ever met
Jerry Clower was the inspiration that started The International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough Tennessee. A professor and some of his students were listening to him on the radio and the professor said wouldn’t it be great if we could attract storytellers to Jonesborough.
Jerry was no dummy. He knew the time would come they would try to take the SOUTHERN.The pride. The voice .The faith. The honor. The LOVE we have out of us. We are fine fine people and no better representative of us than this man from Yazoo city Mississippi!! Thanks for uploading.

I liked his story about putting down Gloria Steinman while waiting to appear on the old Mike Douglas show. The best line you're educated past your intelligence.
