For historical reference; the 1225,[N-1],was built by Lima,and your ATSF 2-8-4,yes,was built by Baldwin! Also the ATSF had Lima 2-8-4's,but those were ex-B&M,and the SP,also had a few!! Bang-up job with this one! By the way, those boxes you weren’t sure about at 4:28 are shrouds; behind them are the air compressors for the brakes. Some locos had them down there instead of mounted on the side (or on the smokebox, but that’s a different story).
She’s gorgeous, well done! I think it’s now time to make the coaches movie accurate, change the blue to a more navy blue, put the polar express lettering on the second to last coach exactly like in the movie, I think that’ll be a good idea.

Been years since I was in model railroading but belonged to a club with a modular layout in the late 80s early 90s. Built the town of Hill Valley circa 1955 complete with a HO scale " modified " Delorean ( heavily modified HO scale BMW M1) with a few of the buildings either majorly kit bashed or scratch built. Absolutely best thing was seeing people walking up admiring the details and such and seeing the realization dawn as they spotted the Delorean and then got laser focused on all the little details and Easter eggs like Doc Brown's Packard, Biff's Ford, the TARDIS in an alley or a phone booth with an odd antenna and Bill and Ted outside.
What an absolute home run Carter! I wish a cloning machine existed because I LOVE how yours came out! Maybe one day a manufacturer can make a film accurate 1225, but it’s the custom ones like this that really shine. Have a Merry Christmas my friend!!

For another project, you should do the 4 runaway locomotives from the 1985 film Runaway Train which has a EMD GP40-2 as the lead, a EMD F7A as the 2nd, and 2 EMD GP7 for the 3rd and 4th trailing engines. Or how about The BEAST from the 2010 movie UNSTOPPABLE which has 2 AC440W as 777 (the all red one) and 767 (the red and black one) even the hero engine 1206 ( the blue locomotive with the yellow stripe). Which of these movies would you do a model from? And The Polar Express is my favorite holiday movie of all time too.

Now that took some dedication and work. I've never seen such a well done "Polar Express" in HO scale. I'll continue to build my turn of the century old time freight cars for my HO scale layout. Seems everything back then was based on the truss rod flatcar of varying length. Cheers from eastern TN

Oh that was stunning and I know that it's not accurate to have Sierra number fives whistle on a Berkshire but I just love that they did that for the film it really gives it that feeling of big powerful locomotive and really seen it on your ho loco made me really happy. I myself have always wanted to do a diesel rendition of this locomotive I know Lionel did but I wanted to do like a custom scheme of my own of like the polar Express for a diesel loco
FANTASTIC MODEL! But you know what it's finally missing? It's very on model set, from the movie going point A to B and B to A. It would fit its very own setting where it would be a lot of work but seeing it from its own setting from the movie to an actual hand made detailed set of the Polar express movie would be great. I would love to see that in the future
I must say, you did quite the good job on it. I recently got the HO scald Polar Express for my birthday, and while I am very happy that it's in my collection, I would like to modify it a little to make it more movie accurate. Idk if it would be to the same extent as your model, but at the very least I'd like to remove the green marker lights, somehow replace the stock headlight for a movie accurate one, and overall make her look more movie accurate. I'm not good with DCC or electronics, so I'd probably just keep them stock. Id also like to do what Trainboy did with his model, and add ice and snow details, to really winterize it. Idk when I'll get around to doing these things, but hopefully it will come out really nice.
Actually, ESU V5 decoders are capable of driving a fan driven unit as their german diesel and steam models feature fan driven smoke. You have to have ab expansion IO board to do it and can be configured in Lokprogrammer. I bought the parts to do a fan driven conversion on some models back in 2021 and I had to have the unit and board shipped from Germany.
You did a amazing job on the model and it looks like it runs great. Also the whistle sound is PERFECT! My only recommendation is to get some decal solution and use that on the decals so they don’t have the silvering effect.
I’m not running to eBay right now to find a Proto 2k Berk!! In all seriousness incredible work, the Proto Berk was a perfect base for this! It looks, sounds, and smokes great!

This is the model I always wanted back in 2004 - I even got that same exact Proto 2000 as a Christmas gift because it was as close as you could get! One part that I'm not sure about - how did you remove the feedwater heater (the box between the stack and the bell) without having any indication it was ever there (indentation, glue, etc)?
The feedwater is a separate piece on these models so it came right off. There was a bit of glue left over, though it was sanded down and touched up with acrylic paint.
Ah, the Polar Express. One of my favorite Christmas movie. You are an awesome, amazing modeler. And even though I love the movie, the know it all messed up on what type of train the Polar Express is. It’s actually a Lima Locomotive Works Baldwin 2-8-4 No. 1225 “Pere Marquette”, built in 1941.
Looks incredible!!! As a big train enthusiast, I always complain on how Lionel doesn’t get the engine from the Movie FULLY accurate. And I’ll be honest, I think you should build the coaches next time, because in the film the windows are much closer to each other, they’re a little more shorter, & they have 4 wheels on each.
Lionel needs to freaking do this. I saw what sid's trains did to his o gauge one so i dont see why not they make one and not to mention next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the polar express. Amazing video by the way👍👍👍

7:32 The Pere Marquette's bell is actually the same bell used in the movie.
You can hear it in the scene where the engineers are fixing the headlight.
Very true! Only issue with using that clip was trying to edit out the music and dialogue, which is why I settled for a regular recording of 1225.

One change I would recommend is reprinting the "Polar Express" on the tender in the font Sorts Mill Goudy. That's the one used in the film!

Oh that was stunning and I know that it's not accurate to have Sierra number fives whistle on a Berkshire but I just love that they did that for the film it really gives it that feeling of big powerful locomotive and really seen it on your ho loco made me really happy. I myself have always wanted to do a diesel rendition of this locomotive I know Lionel did but I wanted to do like a custom scheme of my own of like the polar Express for a diesel loco

FANTASTIC MODEL! But you know what it's finally missing? It's very on model set, from the movie going point A to B and B to A. It would fit its very own setting where it would be a lot of work but seeing it from its own setting from the movie to an actual hand made detailed set of the Polar express movie would be great. I would love to see that in the future
I must say, you did quite the good job on it. I recently got the HO scald Polar Express for my birthday, and while I am very happy that it's in my collection, I would like to modify it a little to make it more movie accurate. Idk if it would be to the same extent as your model, but at the very least I'd like to remove the green marker lights, somehow replace the stock headlight for a movie accurate one, and overall make her look more movie accurate. I'm not good with DCC or electronics, so I'd probably just keep them stock. Id also like to do what Trainboy did with his model, and add ice and snow details, to really winterize it. Idk when I'll get around to doing these things, but hopefully it will come out really nice.
Actually, ESU V5 decoders are capable of driving a fan driven unit as their german diesel and steam models feature fan driven smoke. You have to have ab expansion IO board to do it and can be configured in Lokprogrammer. I bought the parts to do a fan driven conversion on some models back in 2021 and I had to have the unit and board shipped from Germany.

I will say one thing that would be a funny joke to add to the cab is a little Flux Capacitor as seen in the film!
You did a amazing job on the model and it looks like it runs great. Also the whistle sound is PERFECT! My only recommendation is to get some decal solution and use that on the decals so they don’t have the silvering effect.
I’m not running to eBay right now to find a Proto 2k Berk!! In all seriousness incredible work, the Proto Berk was a perfect base for this! It looks, sounds, and smokes great!

This is the model I always wanted back in 2004 - I even got that same exact Proto 2000 as a Christmas gift because it was as close as you could get! One part that I'm not sure about - how did you remove the feedwater heater (the box between the stack and the bell) without having any indication it was ever there (indentation, glue, etc)?
The feedwater is a separate piece on these models so it came right off. There was a bit of glue left over, though it was sanded down and touched up with acrylic paint.
Ah, the Polar Express. One of my favorite Christmas movie. You are an awesome, amazing modeler. And even though I love the movie, the know it all messed up on what type of train the Polar Express is. It’s actually a Lima Locomotive Works Baldwin 2-8-4 No. 1225 “Pere Marquette”, built in 1941.

Looks incredible!!! As a big train enthusiast, I always complain on how Lionel doesn’t get the engine from the Movie FULLY accurate. And I’ll be honest, I think you should build the coaches next time, because in the film the windows are much closer to each other, they’re a little more shorter, & they have 4 wheels on each.

Such a beautiful engine, the Polar Express is my #1 favorite movie ever, so the model you made, especially for HO is nice and maybe you should give your idea to Broadway Limited Imports, maybe only for Christmas, it would be nice to see!!
I really love it how you did custom ho scale polar express locomotive. Next year on 2024 will be 20th anniversary the polar express movie. I hope we’ll see more your videos of your ho scale custom polar express.

I absolutely love this😊😁 I honestly want to see you make one in H0 scale or even N scale. O scale is a little too large for my house; but H0 scale works great on occasions and N scale I can have up whenever I want.
