  • Jack Reacher: The Chevelle Car Chase
    What’s happening in this Jack Reacher movie clip?
    Riding a Chevelle, Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) is trying to escape the police in a wild car chase. He manages to do so by pretending to be a random person taking the bus.
    Rent or buy Jack Reacher here: amzn.to/3Deb58u
    What’s the movie Jack Reacher about?
    Ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) leaps off the pages of Lee Child’s bestselling novel and onto the big screen in the explosive thriller the critics are calling “taut, muscular, gruff and cool”*. When an unspeakable crime is committed, all evidence points to the suspect in custody who offers up a single note in defense: “Get Jack Reacher!”. The law has its limits, but Reacher does not when his fight for the truth pits him against an unexpected enemy with a skill for violence and a secret to keep. During his investigation, Jack will discover that the real perpetrators are a gang led by a former Soviet political prisoner : Zec Chelovek (Werner Herzog).

    I love the fact they didn't turn Reachers car into some kind of on the rails superhero car during the chase.
    They actually showed both the strengths and weaknesses of a big muscle car. All that power. No traction control. Understeer. Torquesteer. Fishtailing...
    The most subtle bit is how easily the Audi made corners the bigger car couldn't but couldn't hope to pull away in a straight line.
    I really love the little bit of realism injected into this whole scene.

    • @lalonguecarabine4952
      @lalonguecarabine4952 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Ha! Bang on, I was thinking "yeah that rear wheel with possi traction will whip you around like that" and then the same damn thing went through my mind as the Audi just takes the corner like it's on rails. My only beef is that he would have flooded it when he was trying to re start it :)

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It is interesting that someone who hitch hikes and rides the bus can whip a stick shift like they've known it forever. Or more important, known whether the clutch engages at the bottom of the travel or the top. But the flooding the gas makes sense considering driving a "new to you" car. and yes, it does show the difference between old and new cars very well.
      But i wish this video began with him palming the cue ball...

      @@albertgaspar627 As far as the books are concerned, Reacher can drive, he just doesn't prefer it. He's driven higher-ranking officers around in a motor-pool jeep when ordered, but on his own, he'd rather let someone else drive. Which is why he's out of his element when it comes to car chases.

      there is not a man of significance who has not been accused in one way or another. usually by someone looking for a payoff.
      and while the accusations are front page, when they are proven false, not one god d.amn word in the press.
      but the ones on the Left seems to get off with no problem.
      like say, bill clinton who was accused by multiple women, one of who I knew personally, and not one damn thing happened to him.
      or the number of times epstein got away with shit.

      I barely got out of Jonestown in the 70's.
      If the government isn't going to learn from it's mistakes; why should I ???? Sign me up. I can cook. I clean. I have questionable carpentry skills. Like everyone else I'm a follower. Why not be on the winning team for once.

The United States not learning from lessons like Vietnam. As in Afghanistan. Those parts are true. Don't you see the almost magical irony of it all. There is no winning team. Don't get so wrapped up in the drama that fate sneaks up and crushes you under the weight of generational institutionalized incompetence

      wild take but the black dude gave off feelers that he was a vet (his boots looked like summer combat boots) and recognized Reacher as one. The second he gave him his cap the 2nd guy moves in as u say working class to do the same.

    I've always like Tom Cruise as an action actor. He always has great facial expressions and body language. And even with his size disadvantage, with the help of good direction, practice, and advantageous camera angles; the choreography goes quite well after the speed up of the fight sequences. I was disappointed when they came out with REACHER the series and Tom already had enough money (and was getting too old for this SH**) But was mildly surprised and later impressed with Alan Ritchson falling into the character of Jack Reacher. Tough act to follow but I think he played the part well enough to continue the legacy and his physical size was a bonus to the characters toughness and durability.

    Thing is.......it's stated quite a few times throughout the books that Reacher doesn't like to drive and prefers that someone else do it. Hence the constant hitch hiking.

    Lol. I expected to see a Chevette. Big difference. I was riding with a pal who owned one when a hayseed local decided to act tough for his girlfriend. Big mistake. My friend hopped out, snatched the keys from the other guy’s car and proceeded to give a gentle beating. 40 years later my pal is schizophrenic then died of a stroke while homeless. There are some people you shouldn’t challenge. RIP, Jeff Daniels.

    You'd think that people in movies would eventually understand that if you just slow down a little bit, you'll actually get there faster instead of skidding everywhere because the road is wet.
