A common mistake I see in some beveling is making sure the face of the beveler is straight up. Not the handle but the face. Depending on the tool may even have to tilt it a little towards the face. This will really help stop tool marks. As you said tiny increments are the key also. I’m also in the none piston camp.

Latigo veg re tans bevel nicely ❤thats what i use for collars & leads & always bevel everything. My biggest problem is finding a one i like the edge it makes😂

Ok I’ve done leather-craft for years first time was in the 8th grade I’m 63 now my problem was to try and get it done in the first pass we all need to make slow lighter passes to get it completed it works better for me that way thanks for posting, I like your T shirt

Making sure your fingernails are properly trimmed cannot be understated. Scratches are repairable earlier on, but best to avoid the PITA altogether.

Great video!! I’m going to try it again. Too bad the bevels don’t come thicker. Very hard to hold those thin tools with arthritis. I’ll have to make a wooden slip-over on my wood lathe.

On some of my small diameter handles I go to the hardware store and get some tubing to add to the handle. Ace sells it by the foot lengths.

Thank you! Just keep practicing at it. You'll get there. I can understand how the small handles can be hard to work with if you have arthritis. Larry had a great suggestion...I've even seen thread wrapped around the handles to bulk them up. (Although it didn't look very comfortable).

This is tooling, not beveling.

Tooling is the general term for this but the tool being used in this specific video is a beveler, hope that helps!
