      Something I was thinking about it today as I was reading a magazine... what's the difference between looking down at your phone and looking down reading a magazine or book?

    • @hightreestess
      @hightreestess ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bethpat9 the difference is the blu ray led light emanating from the cell phone screen. It does just as much damage to the skin as the sun, if not more, because we don't get burned like we do by the sun so we arent aware the damage is happening. The burn from the sun tells us to get out of the sun, with the cell phone we dont feel it. Also, people spend way more time on their cell phone than they ever did reading books.

    Part of the reason your teeth problems improved when you used Xylimelts for dry mouth is the xylitol in the mints. Xylitol is a calorie free sweetener actually PREVENTS cavities. So if anyone watching this video is going to take up gum chewing for the jaw line, they should get Xylital gum to add the cavity preventing benefits! I like PUR Gum with 100% Xylitol, because it has no aspartame.( IMPORTANT Note: xylitol is TOXIC to dogs, so make sure to keep anything containing xylitol away from your puppers.)

      @@jmc8076 You can do Xylitol "pulling" or putting the crystals in your mouth, let them melt & just hold it in your mouth after you eat food or before bedtime so you alkalize your mouth overnight. I buy a 1lb bag of birch sourced xylitol & use those according to my food/caffeine intake.

    I was telling my patients to mouth tape 15 years ago - not for looks/the face, but for health/posture/good neural and myofascial communication, because the air is supposed to be heated (and treated) before it enters the throat, and 6-8 hours a day doing anything causes reticular fibres to strengthen the fascia too be in that position. Sleep position was one of those 'lectures' I found myself giving up to 10 times a day.... for over a decade. And MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) was one of my specialties It's great to see you sharing the science. Great video

    So I started sleeping on my back when I got injured in a car accident in 2018. My physical therapist suggested using a bolster pillow under my knees to help take the strain off of my lower back and I’ve been using one ever since. It’s way more comfortable and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin. No more hooded eyelids (I include peptides as well) and my chest skin doesn’t wrinkle anymore.

    Hello Charlene , I am enjoying your content and your energy! I am a Speech Language Pathologist and just want to address a few things about the mouth taping. I would encourage your viewers, regarding mouth taping, to make sure that there are not other underlying causes as to why they or their family member is mouth breathing. People most definitely should breath through their mouths and keep their tongue placed on the roof of their mouths, for the reasons that you stated, especially regarding oral health. However, some of the reasons that people are mouth breathers or snorers have to do with physical issues, such as their tonsils and adenoids being enlarged, or maybe they have deviated a septum and sinus issues or an enlarged uvula (that thing that hangs down in the back of our throats, or chronic allergies. Some people have tongues too big for their mouth or palate, due to very narrow face structure. If some of these people were to do mouth taping it could keep them from receiving enough oxygen. I do think that mouth taping is a good way to stop a mouth breathing habit, but people should definitely address the physical issues mentioned before deciding to do that. Oh and regarding just keeping the tongue on the roof of the mouth, If a person is severely tongue tied, meaning that the lingual frenulum; the little string that attaches the tongue to the base of the mouth is super short, they might be challenged to keep their tongue elevated. (They most likely should have the minor surgery to clip that thing). Anyway, keep spreading the great tips and the love. Cheers, Cindi

    • @coachmichelle526
      @coachmichelle526 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @Cindifitzgerald6948 your comment is super helpful and spot on! If a person is tongue tied, it is nearly impossible to hold the tongue on the roof of the mouth and physical obstructions will certainly limit one’s nose breathing capability. A person should definitely not mouth tape if these conditions are present! I am 62 years old and I had a frenuloplasty (or tongue tie release) and It’s made a huge difference in my overall health, including no more bruxism, no more acid reflux, reduced anxiety and deeper sleep. I mouth tape almost every night and I am a back sleeper.

    Great advice, Chalene! Here's a couple things I do to keep my face as lifted as possible. Use a Jawzersize and do this simple exercise at least once a day. The next thing is an easy exercise. Clasp the fingers from both hands together and place your hands at the base of your scull by the top of your spine. Your elbows will be bent and raised above your shoulders. Now simultaneously push your head backwards against your clasped hands as you pull your bent elbows back. Do this 10x twice daily. This simple exercise helps to correct tech neck, eases shoulder stiffness and firms the front of your neck. Broadly speaking, anything you can do to increase blood and oxygen to your face will help you to look better. I have nothing against injectables and plastic surgery except the cost. But even if you have the disposable income to get professional work done it's smart to do what ever you can to take care of wonderful, amazing, unrepeatable you. ❤️

    Hi, Chalene, I can't tell you what drew me to your video but I am so happy I clicked on it. I developed scoliosis because of a failed back surgery and for years I was unable to sleep on my back. As I was heading into my 71st year of life I developed osteoarthritis and needed a shoulder replacement on the right side which was the side I had been sleeping on. The pain was so great that I could not sleep on my right side any longer. I could not sleep on my left side because that is the side that my scoliosis was very pronounced on. To make a long story short, I was also suffering from chronic back pain. When I was forced to sleep on my back, unbelievably I noticed a decrease in my back pain. And 3 years later, my back pain is not chronic any more. I was never a mouth breather, but I did learn a lot about the exercises you were explaining to drain the lymphatic system in our faces and I started those today to see if they will help me with the bags I have under my eyes. I am planning to watch all of your videos because I am learning so much from you. God bless you and keep those videos coming.

    I’ve always chewed gum all my life and it does help. I put my tongue at the roof of my mouth but also in between my top lip and teeth it really draws the bottom chin muscles up. I was taught to tap all over my face for a about a minute to stimulate collagen and use cold water to tighten face muscles. I’m enjoying videos such good advice. So glad I found you.❤

I sleep like a vampire with my arms crossed or to the side, and I even sleep so still some nights all I have to do in the morning is lightly comb my hair and my morning skincare routine 😊
    I also have been doing face yoga and lymphatic facial massage, I have 2 different sets of Gua Sha stones I purchased on Amazon.
    Sunscreen, proper hydration including electrolytes, good sleep hygiene, no smoking and limited alcohol consumption have also been a must for me.

    Interestingly, being born with a Tongue Tie can also affect all the same issues you talk about in this video. At 57 yrs old, my new dentist informed me that I've been living with a tongue tie my whole life, and it completely affected where my tongue rested in my mouth, how my head jutted forward, and why it made it almost impossible to avoid mouth breathing due to how the roof of my mouth had grown. So. Who knew?!? Tongue tie is now clipped, and I am using an adult Myobrace device that is helping to train my tongue, move my teeth into a straighter position, and even reform my mouth. Thanks Chalene for this information. Am now adding back sleeping and face tape to the list!!! (and yes, I'm a tad pissed that it took 57 years to get help with this)

    The easiest way to learn to sleep in your back is to turn your pillow 90 degrees so that it is long ways. It should be down to the middle of your back.
    Not only does it help your back and neck from daily digital device use, but also when you try and sleep on your side, your face never gets squished by the pillow and helps to continue sleeping with your mouth closed. It takes a while to get used to, but it's the best for your back posture, mewing and facial wrinkles.

On the odd night that I end up on my side I notice a very restless sleep of tossing and tuning. I've also been training myself to keep my mouth closed. This is a very helpful video!

      sleeping on one's back in pregnancy is actually not recommended, as when you are closer to term, the weight of the baby compresses an artery that will reduce bloodflow to the baby. Side-sleeping is recommended in the later terms.

      @@heidih3048 I suppose I didn't phrase this right. After the pregnancy, I was really tired of sleeping on my side and switched over to back sleeping. It took a lot of training to get used to staying on my back though.

    I love your podcasts. You are so real and honest when you share your views about plastic surgery, self care, nutrition, and fitness. Beauty always starts from within because it is really good health and self worth that shine through your eyes, skin, posture and attitude. But even with that, sometimes nature needs a little boost and if it makes you feel better that too will emanate through your body. Thank you for sharing this info and supporting those that need to choose a different path….like me, lol. At 66 I’m holding it together but I need a more strategic line of defense :). I try to be mindful a lot of these things… For the last few months I’ve also been using a bolster pillow to make sure the sea curve in my neck doesn’t flatten. also been doing neck exercises and trying to strengthen the front muscles of my neck, bulking it up slightly so that those long sagging looking tendons have some structure behind them. You look great by the way! Oh and I also started. Started using oral Lift… Have you heard of that?

      @@chalenejohnson it’s a little device that looks like a mouthguard… You get two of them. They provide online support for the program, The science behind it is similar to what you discussed in your video. They’ll set you back about $295. But I figure that’s relatively cheap compared to surgeries and treatments.It’s more difficult for some people to use than others because of jaw tension, can be more severe for some people. There are videos here on TH-cam about it i’ve only been using mine a couple of weeks, you start out using it for only about a minute twice a day and you woke up to an hour. You only use it three times a week with intervals of two days in between each day that you use it, you use it for about four months and then you take four months off. It’s really interesting and some of the results people have had our outstanding! Check it out :-)

      @@KelliRivers Hi! I just found a random bolster pillow, they’re just cylinder shaped pillows, you can also use a soft towel rolled into a cylinder, sized to the comfort of your neck. When you first start using it, it will make you feel sore and stiff, so just use it for maybe 10 or 15 minutes at a time… If I try to sleep with it all night, it gets uncomfortable. The point is to use it intermittently to help reestablish AC curve in your cervical area. I DK how to share links, sorry! But physical therapy/chiropractic TH-cam channels show different exercises for improving posture, these include an exercise called chin tucks. I also looked up channels that show exercises for improving neck strength/thickness. I didn’t want to get a super bulky neck like a weightlifter, but something similar to fill out my scrawny neck! Lol seems to be helping a lot of hydration/moisturizer in that area as well. I hope that helps!

      Hey, peptides and growth factor creams worked for my hooded eyes. I started with growth factors which are crazy expensive but the change was drastic, and now I just use peptide serums and tret but my eyelids have stayed in place. I had really hooded eyes and now I don’t. I’ve tried 2 different ones from Neocutis first and loved them the most but like I said they’re expensive. After I finished those, I tried a bunch of diff peptide serums, but my favs are from the Ordinary and Medik8. Just make sure you have a blend of different ones and use them consistently.

    I am presently seeing a breathing specialist and he is teaching me to nose breath. He has also taught me how to exhale while talking. All your breathing even while your talking should be done through the nose. While you're talking you're exhaling, then when you stop talking, you breath through your nose. It certainly takes practice. Also it shows that mouth breathers age quicker because it increases their oxidative stress levels.

    I am a mouth breather, and am on a journey to use my nose to breathe more and more. Its not easy as i get very congested at night. Its also easier for me to nasal breathe on my back. But I do believe we are meant to sleep in a variety of positions, and not just on our backs, but that's just my humble opinion. Most of us change thoughout the night, side to side to back.
