Hello It was a great tutorial, thank you I have two questions: Is there a way to automatically convert Corona materials to V-Ray? Second, what is the best way to convert old V-Ray materials and scenes to V-Ray version 5 and 6? Because the converter in plugin version 6 does not work well!
Build from scratch. Its really the only way to do it with predictable results, especially when dealing with the Stefan vray pre chaos. The only useful converter is the vray standard to node. Remember, chaos group never made a useful converter for max, rather everyone uses a plugin. Chaos tends not to develop workflow tools like converters.
I've been on the chaos forums a lot and did so much feedback on the betas and I hate to say it but even this chaos version for cinema has major problems. When I use Arnold it makes Vray seem so behind. Proxies are completely re-linkable - if you do they lose all textures. That means you have to remake them if you archive to a server or move a .vrmesh from a project folder to a resource folder. The materials themselves are pretty easy to use and look nice but there are so few nodes to work with. And why isnt displacement or hdri nodes or node linkable? Oh, and the material pallet previews will re-render randomly after an undo. My machine would constantly re-rendering materials and run at max temp almost all day. so many of these issue that they acknowledge but we're 2 versions in and years later and there seems to be 2 devs on the vray for cinema. IMO, Chaos has spread themselves waaay too thin, have an implementation in ever 3d modler but they are so feature flat. They seem to put gimmicks(procedural clouds) in front of functionality(relinkable proxy files). Hope they get it together for vray7
