    I'm retired now, but I was a owner/operator for 36 years. I bought a new truck every four years. I used the centramatic's on every truck I ever owned. They not only made a smoother ride but they increased the tire life. I have a 2014 F150 and am going to see about getting some centramatic's for it. I never thought about them for pickups. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

    Based on your recommendation, I purchased and installed CenterMatics.....let me tell you. Game changer. Our 2019 F250 with Michelin Defender's would not balence out and caused horrible vibrations at all different speeds. CenterMatics fixed all the issues.
    Money well spent. Thanks a bunch.

    I had them on my semi for five years and they worked very well. Sold the truck to my brother three years ago and he’s still using them.

    Centra-matics are awesome. I've used them on every semi I've owned. Many where on multiple trucks. I'll be putting these on my new F450 when it gets in.
    Btw, it makes no difference which way you run them, they balance the same either way. They balance the tire, wheel and hub. The outside tire being the problem doesn't matter. Dual tires act as a unit when using these balancers.
    You don't need weights on your wheels when using them. It's recommended to remove any additional weights, beads, etc....
    Your not balancing just the tire, your balancing the whole wheel assembly. That's what makes them so awesome.

    I run Centramatic Balancers on my Kenworth with new Alcoa wheels and it really smoothed out the ride. Worth every penny. Before the Centramatics I went to 4 different shops to try and balance out the truck to no avail. After the Centramatics it became very smooth. Those who doubt are stuck in an old time reality.

    After watching this video, I checked my 2016 F450 and it has the centramatics on it! Previous owner must have added them, although it still has the stock wheels and tires. They are working well, haven't had any issues so far.

    Not really on same topic but from past experiences. I have seen many wheel and tire combos that have had way too much weight installed, like a few ounces in various places on the wheel. When I put new tires on myself, I will put the set of paint opposite of valve stem to start and attempt to balance. If all is good with very little weight, I go with it. If not, I break the bead rotate tires on wheel in direction I think will balance better and reinstall and balance. I have gotten many tires balanced this way with minimal weight attached. Shops usually just go for the fast way, not always the best way.

    I literally use BB's for balance beads. Yes, the kind that shoot out of a BB gun. They work great.
    Keep in mind that I drive old junk rather than new stuff with tpms sensors.

    I installed these Centramatic Auto Wheel Balancers on a 2008 F-350 dually Class B motorhome. They worked great, could never get rid of the vibration it had after multiple balancing and alignments. I think you will be happy with them.
    After asking around several construction companies run them on their larger trucks, F-350, F-450 with no problems.

    • @spuriouseffect

      So this can be used instead of having your tires balanced? I can change the tires myself, I've just always had to pay to have them balanced. Seems like this would save a lot of time and money.

    We used a set of those rings on a semi trying to get rid of a shimmy on the front. Tried balancing, truing the tires, different tires, different brake hubs. Nothing was working, not even changing the king pins or a front end alignment. Lots of money and downtime, in the end it turned out to be an anti-sway torsion bar. Not on the front but on the rear that caused the issue.

    After being an big rig owner/operator for 21 years and 1.3 million miles of driving my own rig, this is what works best. First run aluminum rims-less unsprung weight-rides best and dissipates heat the best. Spin balance ALL tires (even though the stick on weights don't look the best-tire longevity is more important). Then run the Centramatics at least on the front, with running on the back good too. No other balancing system works-golf balls, sand, whatever inside the tire does NOT work.

    I have had these on two different trucks, a Ram 2500 & my Ram 3500 ---- THEY WORK!! I had problems with the rear vibrating real bad until I put these on the rear axle of the dually.. On another note, you have to have that inner steel wheel on your dually, when running aluminum rims on the rear DOT states that one wheel per side needs to be steel (most choose the inner wheel)

    Back in the early 1990s, Sears had a machine that slowly spun the tire on the rim, measuring the out of roundness of the combination and ground off the edges of the high spots. Worked great when it was needed. Today they have force balancing which kind of works better and identifies pulling tires.

    I bought a new set of Goodyear tires for my van and had vibration issues from day one. The dealer was no help. I finally paid to have them road force balanced, only to find out two of the tires were over 50 lbs out of balance. I replaced them with Michelins, and no issues at all.
    Years ago I bought a set of balancing rings from JC Whitney, but can't say they helped. It would have been nice to try this product out.

  • @majikmajik
    @majikmajik 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome. You and I did exactly the same things. I had beads installed on my 450. The shimmy got worse. Fought with multiple places to get them removed. Southern Tire and another tire store couldn't get the center hubcaps off (probably a good video on how to do this - it's a pita). Finally had the Fast Lane in Scottsdale, AZ remove all of the beads and re-balance with stick-ons. Found a tire that wouldn't balance (defective), replaced the tire for me, and got me back on the road - all for zero dollars. Fast Lane is good stuff (when they aren't super busy).
    Looking forward to the long-term review before I buy, but if it's favorable, I'll go get them put on the next day (get rid of the ugly sticky weights).

    I used airsoft bbs (heaviest I can find) on the jeeps I had and on my ATVs/SxSs they work very well. The problem with the clear (small) beads and the kitty litter stuff is that they hang easily on the ribs inside the tire also any moisture in the slightest will clump them making them useless. One other disadvantage is that dynamic balancing solutions like this is that they typically aren't very effective at lower speeds but once you get above 25mph you're golden.

    If your using the centramatics on a srw pickup, make sure to get extra spacers. They make them because the ring will contact the brake calipers on the front axle. They warrantied my first set. I've got an 08 F250 4x4.

    I am going through the exact same issue as I just got new tires this month. I did a long trip and didn't notice the unbalance during towing my 5th wheel. How ever after the trip with out the load it jumped all over the place. To the point of fishtailing. Scary! Took it back to the Ford dealership and they found 3 bad tires. They have so far suggested that I stick with the beads. I pick it up today and we will see what happens. If this still doesn't work I'm getting the centramatics. I'll let you know.

    Did you notice how the guy in the shop started the wheel nuts by HAND before tightening down with the impact wrench?

    these balancers have been around for a very long time and they work amazingly. the problem with cat litter or the bag sand(which you toss in the bag and itll break apart as you drive) is when you add air to your tires you add moisture which then causes clumping and so the sand and litter quit working. farmers would also use golf balls.

    • @greggv8
      @greggv8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would anyone throw the bag in? That's obviously going to cause a clump that will also constantly change as it holds more or less of the beads.

    • @antneeshoopdeegarage92
      @antneeshoopdeegarage92 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never understood throwing the bag in. A guy I use to work with ran beads in his big mud tires on his 250 and in his 22.5" wheels on his 350. That's how he would run them and his 350 rode smooth.

    Metal balls in a ring have been used in the spindle motors of high speed optical drives for many years. Dynamically balances out of balance discs so they can be spun faster.

    I use synthetic hi-temp grease and lightly coat the hub corners on ALL vehicles to prevent the rust you can see @4:35, both before putting on the rotor and after using a small brush (HFT #61880). For duals I'd do the same after placing the first wheel. Wheels and rotors always come off very easily and it eliminates the rust forming in that area.

    I don't know how well your rims fit the hubs, but there are rim alignment sleeves that go over the studs to center to stud in the hole. Well for semis they do. Even a .040" off set at highway speed can make a vibration, especially the harder (80+ psi) you keep the tires

    the 2017 F450 medic unit with 3000 miles, that I work in had so many problems with the ride once we put it in to service. Especially at 32 MPH and 60 plus. The shop guys put these "spin shake weights" on all four corners and it didn't fix the ride issues. Finally we took the rig back to Ford. The Ford dealer ended up putting new shocks on the front and then tried 4 different sets of tires on the factory wheels(6x4)=24 tires. The ride now is much, much smoother, but it is still not perfect. I Can't believe that the tires could be so poorly built that it took so many to find the best tires.

    First problem I saw was Toyo tires. If you’re looking for a premium ride go with a premium tire. Michelin. Twice the performance twice the mileage. Everything I own rides on Michelin‘s. Never have I ever had problems like this. You balance them two times throughout their life. and that’s it. Thank you for your time I appreciate the share.

    Upgrade you’re track bar .. it’s the bushings in the mount...all new fords do this because it is a coil spring set up ,minor vibration gets magnified by the coils... so if u get a track bar mount with poly instead of the vulconized rubber it performs better with vibrations... I’ve driven many new 550-250 at work they all do it...

It's likely somebody sold you some tires that are out of round. It happens more often than you think. Just my two cents. And almost 20 years as a truck driver and working with 22.5 lo pros.

    Cool video. I've run dyna Beads in my motorcycle tires for year. I've had my FJR 1300 up to 135 MPH with absolutely no vibration at all. That is without any rim weights. I've swapped out tires and found no wear or tire debris inside the tires. I have always blown the beads in through the air stem. I didn't like the idea of a bag inside the tire that migh load up with beads and cause a problem.

    I have used them since 2008 on my 2004 F-350 SRW. I have only run Michelins 285-75-16 and one set of mud tires " same size" during hunting season. I have tried running the balancers with weights but I find the tires are smoother with just the balancers. In over 200k I had one balancer that the media inside did not move as it should when turning. The asked me to try a to free the media up and it did not work. The replaced the set with no questions asked.

    I really liked how you showed the "lack" of quality of the "other" beads that were used. Obviously, I can't wait to see the long-term review of these. On another note, I would be interested to know what kind of mileage you average while pulling your 5th wheel? I have a 2017 F-450 Platinum with a 5-6 inch Kelderman air-ride lift system wearing 22-inch wheels and 35-inch tires and am wondering what kind of mileage I will get when pulling my 44 foot enclosed race trailer from Albuquerque to Knoxville... Interested to get an update after you have some more miles using the rings. It looks like a far superior product over the “sand” balancing beads that were dumped into the tire. I don’t get how that would expect to have worked. Did you find out what the employee with the similar dually running the 35”s did to get his balanced?

    I love the fact that the problem lies within those that are trying to fix the problem. Instead of making it a manufacturers issue. The truck is made for loading. It's going to ride different loaded and unloaded. Manufacturers should be held accountable for these issues. They are receiving your payments or flat out cash for something that needs work. If this works best it should become a standard feature with the vehicle that the manufacturer should be accountable.

    Let me ask you do you recommend having balance beads and dynamic balance and centramatic balance? Cause I tend to see all three on one tire . Drives me crazy!!!

    Proprietary oil and bead system. LOL. I call that a couple of ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil and some BBs.

    this sounds like some next level snake oil, possibly even some blinker fluid tech.

    Checking in to see if you are still happy with Centramatic Balancing Rings. Looking to do the same on my Ram.

      I have been pleased with them! The sound of the metal pellets moving around inside is strange (until about 43 mph) but they are functional

    Could you update on your long term experience with these on your truck. Also wondering if you have mounted a new set of tires yet and might have noticed better tire life. Thanks

    I noticed that while your truck was on the lift, it seemed to be lifted by the back differential. According to the Ford Manuel this is a big No No. Please let me know if it was truly lifted by the back differential and your thoughts on the proper lift points.
    Reason I ask is because I have a 2017 F350 SRW. And I wanted to put the truck up on jack stands and rotate the tires after doing an oil change. Could not fit a jack stand and a floor jack next to each with the Ford approved lift spots. Lifting from the back differential would have made it much easier for me. I get that you must be very careful with the differential cover. But Manuel says no differential lifting.
    Thanks for your time!

      It does indeed say that. No reply? Stuff like this - I don't want to take it to an "expert". Expert can't even follow basic manual instructions from the manufacturer.

    They are neat! But personally I’d paint them black, especially the rear ones, so you wouldn’t see them through the rim holes.
    How are they still holding out?

    Now that is a TRUCK! Now not knowing I have t ask if it would not be better if possible to static balance the wheels then use either the beads or the centramatics? I have no experience with balancing anything larger than normal passenger tires, and only a passing experience with that. So this is not a shot at anyone, or any method, just a question.

      You could, but my rear outer duallys can't be balanced that way

      That is what I wondered, considering beads and centramatics, I just flat did not know if it could be done.

    Great video and great customer service. The Big 3 all use inner steel rims. If they used aluminum, the trucks could have MORE paylod. Friend of mine hauls car and he needs every pound he can get. I wonder what the weight difference is?

    • @rmbequipment2159
      @rmbequipment2159 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steel rims might night weigh more at all, plus these are unsprung weight. Drive around with less than 1/4 tank of fuel and skip breakfast for more payload.
