Can you stop motivating me to draw in the middle of the night, I'm trying to sleep. Just kidding, please don't!.. Thanks to PeterDraws, I rediscovered my love for drawing and have been drawing every day for the past week; you're amazing, Peter!

My employer years ago had us all do Myers-Briggs. I'm not sure how accurate the results were but I got a little insight in that I need a balance of solitude and collaboration, and too much of either one is undesirable. I don't have any advice, but I know your presence and content on youtube was very comforting to me when I was dealing with some very tough times and I wish there was some way to do the same for you. I can tell you that I really love seeing you grow and develop as an artist, and as always, I love watching you draw.

Hey Peter, yeah if you're feeling better already after a few days, it's probably placebo. Antidepressants usually kick in after 2-3 weeks. I'm struggling with the same issues as you are, doubled with anxiety. Sport is a great way to secrete good hormones and boost you up, so make sure you get out in the sun and workout. I find that meditation helps a lot too, focusing on your breath, your body and embracing whatever feeling is there. Stay strong and do things that make you feel good.

    • @walteredstates
      @walteredstates ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would like to second that.
I can't overestimate how much my daily meditation practice has helped my state of mind and how I perceive the world, and myself in it.
A big part of it is the fact that I've been doing it for a long time, too. Start now, start 'badly', it is very much worth it.
As for exercise: It. Is. Too.
I only re started that after over a decade of lazing about.. and it's significantly contributing to my feeling good - physically, mentally and emotionally.

We love you Peter. I hope that helps.
I avoid doing this or that too. I made a rule for myself years ago, the thing I least want to do ... I do first ... get it out of the way straight off. Doing it this way I can feel good when I think about it "It's complete, finished, done." Now I can move on to what I want to be doing, or feel more comfortable doing and that other chore is not hanging over my head so to speak.

Very relatable re: type 5. I came out of a period of doing gouache paintings which made me feel good and purposeful but also made me realize I was neglecting all the base stuff I needed to maintain for a secure life. Apartment’s still a mess. One day at a time. ❤

Great drawings... Hang in there, the creative personality can be difficult to live with sometimes, but it will come around. There is an ebb and flow to everything and things are better than they seem. Keep telling yourself that out loud, that's what got me out of a very bad place many years ago and reminds me to notice my blessings every day.

I didn’t want to go back on the antidepressants, but I really had to-so I did. She keeps upping the dose slowly.
I do feel better, it’s not perfect. I certainly couldn’t stay the I was anymore.
Talking to your doctor (asking for help) is the hard part. If you don’t start to feel better please don’t hesitate to let your Doc know.
Congratulations on getting started on your journey and I hope that you end feeling better via whatever route it takes to get there.

I'm glad you brought topic of depression up because I was prescribed antidepressants to help me cope with anxiety and hectic home life. I was on sertraline before switching to mitazapine. I stopped as was giving me scary nightmares but sort of helped with sleep issues and return back to creativity. I still have relapses and in process of look for therapist. Lately, I 'm getting triggered over little things. I use mental help app to help me cope while doing some creative journaling. Drawing helps but only do so much.

I am glad you are seeing mood improvement, even if it's placebo effect. Placebo effect is fascinating and powerful, and I hope you continue to see gains with this treatment. I know SSRIs do have less potential for abuse than traditional adhd meds, but I suspect there's a more immediate reason your doctor started with SSRIs instead of stimulants. I don't know if this is happening in other countries, but here in the US adhd meds have been having supply chain problems lately. The meds are tightly regulated in ways that sometimes result in pharmacies not being able to dispense as many doses as patients have scripts for. Many of my friends have recently had the experience of having to suddenly make do without the meds they are used to counting on.

I do video and photo for a living, drawing a painting in my free time. I feel like we deal with similar things, I think its overstimulation in my case or just a product of stimulation. I am constantly observing, relating, changing and morphing ideas and concepts etc. it can be exhausting, and make me think I have adhd. I have also dealt with addiction and depression and know when I need to help myself. Good job on taking the first steps to help yourself, and remember self care and relaxation is needed to be productive in your work and art. We are all too hard on ourselves with social media. When I take portraits people always tell me their flaws I don't like this and this on me. I think its all shit we make up in our head. Much Love homie

The quick and dirty test for ADHD is checking if caffeeine actually wakes you up. For most ADHDers it just makes us calmer or more tired. So if you want to re-bring it up with your doc, maybe that might be another data point if it applies.

Maybe you could try drawing the things you're putting off in order to get you on the mood. Recently, I was struggling to make sense of a mess that needed to be cleaned up so I took a post-it note and filled it with an abstract doodle. Somehow the act of organising meaningless lines on a piece of paper warmed my mind up enough to organise and clear the clutter.

The mind is a very complex thing.

Hey Peter, it's Elin here. The 33-year old from Sweden who loves knitting and wanted a dog, remember? Anyway. If I am out of line here I sincerely apologize but you seem to be in the mindset of finding yourself and figuring out who you are? In that case I don't think you should give up on the idea you might have ADHD or maybe be on the autistic spectrum. 2 years ago I got my autism diagnosis and just knowing WHY life always seemed alot harder for me than for most people have helped so much! I recognize alot of myself in what you show us in your videos and if I can make a suggestion for you, regarding taking personality type tests: Try taking an online quiz to see if maybe you fit on the autistic spectrum too?
HOWEVER YOU DECIDE to keep going on this self discovery, or if you don't go further, whatever: I wish you all the best and send lots of care and thoughts!

My advice to you Peter, as a fellow overthinker who struggles with depression and anxiety, stop looking outside of yourself in personality tests, mental disorders, philosophy, ideology etc. You will never find "the answer". There is no level of understanding or insight or perspective or idea that will enlighten you or make sense of the messy and dissatisfying life that so many of us have, are and will live. There is no cure. But the next best thing I've found is simply to let go.
To allow life to be broken, painfull and full of loose ends.
    Let go.
Accept the imperfection, within yourself, within others and within everything.
Just let the puzzle be unsolved, allow it to be incomplete and walk away.

Enneagram was created by a guru, but is only good for writers to give their characters greater depth. It was not created by a psychological professional.
Myers-Briggs is pseudoscience garbage. The "16" _IS_ Myers-Briggs. So is "the big 4" which just breaks down M-B to the four preferred groupings.
A lot of those online tests are just using astrology methods and focus on making people feel good.
You should try anger management. Even if anger is not your issue, it teaches excellent thinking and coping strategies. You should also have a friend or family member to talk to regularly (preferrably daily) since you live alone.
