:-) I'm the proud son of Peter Conroy :-) I'm 61 and he has just turned 91... still healthy and everybit sharp now as he was, very much loved by his family and his community.
This is particularly interesting to me. Our family was based in Zweibrucken from 1956-57. I was an air force brat of 11 at the time. My dad was a front line pilot flying Saber Jets during this time. His rank was Wing Commander and he loved his job. He was tragically killed in a crash during a routine test flight of an F-86 on May 30, 1957; caused by engine failure.
Sounds like a Star Wars movie ,,the X wing fighters. Bottom line,,,,The MEEK shall inherit the EARTH,they shall beat their swords in to plowshares. Halleluyah! Amein!
Mark Conroy: Please say hello to your father for me; we're both ex-434 members, but he preceded me by several years. I got to know him in Portage La Prairie...
This just reinforces how far the Canada and the RCAF has fallen under PET, Chretin and Justina. These were real Canadians here. Our media was patriotic and proud of our service men and women unlike today. I love the British Ensign flag on the Sabre's tail.
Except for the jets, this reminds me of an old saying about the Korean war. 'The third world war fought with second world war surplus'. Compare to the drama and mood music- and color- of nowadays, this seems boring,,, but for 1956... this must have been a film to glue TV viewers to the edge of the chair!
Go Canada, it's worth mentioning that when the last CF18s left CFB Zweibrucken the locals gave them a heartfelt goodbye message spelled out on the ground......
Flying Officer Dave Fry has to my ear a very odd mid 1950's Canadian accent. Does anyone know where his accent could be from? He first shows up at the 10:00 minute mark. Thanks.
Sounds like an slightly affected mid Atlantic accent. I note that he is only a F/O yet he has pilot wings and medals , including what appears to be a WW2 service medal
Not sure why a slower pace, leisurely editing and, 'candid conversation' style is described below as 'boring'...then again, you did say 'seems' boring. Yes, in this the age of boredom, we must ask ourselves if what is is only what seems. Or is the seeming the meaning?
Amazing what a couple of Avowed Communist PM's can do. Plus when you have an electorate that is bound & determined to repeatedly vote these 'chaps' in for 26 years or so.
@@rpm1796 Nonsense. The cancellation of the Arrow by the Conservative Diefenbaker ended the Canadian aviation industry. Go find out what a "communist" is, too.
It's interesting how Diefenbaker was so easily persuaded to destroy all traces of the Avro Arrow in 1960 as obsolete, yet they are still building fighter aircraft almost 60 years later.
More military propaganda? Hardly. This is the way it was during the Cold War. You probably hadn't graduated to long pants back then so your insight is a little limited...?

😢Sorry for the lost of you father Sir
I am an Canadian Air Force brat born in Zweibrucken in 1957. I approve of this message.
As a 2 Fighter Wing (Grostenquin France) brat, I also approve. I was 5-8 years old.
I was born in Zweibrucken in 1955 and I approve also.

Just saw your message :-) will do ! I'll reference Portage La Prairie.

I lived here from 1956 to 1960.
Canada had two nato air force bases in france aswell until degaulle booted them out in 1963 , with friends like france.......
The Brylcreem budget for this production must have been staggering

*live in the south island of new zealand; there was a time when all we had was black and white transmision of a single channel.
Yes, none of this is likely to be used much anymore. Even fighter jets are becoming obsolete in the air war.

The recognition model that looks like a B-29 actually represents a Soviet Tu-4 "Bull" the Russian copy of the B-29.

Maritime..Scots-Irish.
@@rpm1796 On replaying the video, I now suspect he is from the south shore of Nova Scotia
The US Air Force took over Zweibrucken AB in the '70's and flew RF-4C's. Base closed for good in the '90's.
Cool
Would have been an amazing time.
F86s with Orenda turbojet engines ehh?

Back when Canada actually had aircraft for their air force.

More military propoganda.
