New Manufacture Peerless Mantles, are they any good?

  • The folks from the Indo Auerlicht Manufacturing Company, makers of Peerless Mantles sent me over some mantles to try out. I told them I'd make a video and at long last here we are.
    I'm going to mark this one "Paid Promotion" although I didn't get paid the mantles were free. The video is my opinion having used the mantles for a relatively short period of time. If, in the future, I have more to say about them you'll be sure to see it here.

    It's the sound of these gas lamps that really bring me back to camping in the 90s and 2000s.

    Many thanks to Lantern Lab for this unbiased video. We urge all lantern and camping enthusiast to try the new Peerless mantle in order to see a significant difference between the coleman mantles and the ones we offer (Peerless).
    I am certain of a bright & long lasting light in every lantern that uses the new Peerless mantles. Please contact American Mantle company, Morris, IL. to get your hands on these. Thank you.

    Awesome video! The side by side comparison was something I’d been waiting on someone to do a video on.
    The newer Peerless 2C-HG’s have been better over the last few months, at least from my experience with them. About a year ago the 2C-HG’s would shrivel up badly on burn in. I bought some last month and they burned in uniformly and looked like normal mantles.
    It’s nice to see yours held a consistent shape 👍🏻
    I’ve been impressed with their 24-A’s and the 111’s since production shifted to India. My only complaint is that they look dirty after burn in. Thankfully they do get cleaner looking after a couple of light ups.
    I’m curious if you’ve had the same experience. I’d like to see the P logo back on the mantles as well.

    Good to see you are making videos again- This one was very informative. I only use the peerless mantles, I just cannot deal with the murky yellow light the Coleman mantles put out. American mantle company is awesome, great selection and prices.

    Some time ago-a few years-I bought two batches of Peerless 2C-HG’s. The first batch assumed beautiful, slightly bulbous shapes when burned in. The later batch (also Filipino) look like misshapen basketball shorts. They don’t round up well, certainly don’t take that nice bulblike shape. They’re also inconsistent in size, usually mismatched in the same package. Many of the first batch are now tearing just below the burner. They haven’t seen much use.
    I’d probably conclude that the Indian versions would be the same as the later I have from the Philippines.

    OK dumb question about how to get the mantle to balloon out without blowing a hole in it....again maybe a coleman issue. Full pressure right away? If i dont use full pressure i get a strange shape and not full brightness. Full pressure blows a hole in the coleman ones😢

    • @LanternLabs
      @LanternLabs  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coleman mantles are more fragile than others, especially newer manufacture ones. I made a video some years ago where I said I'd never had an issue with them, then I pulled out a mantle that had a hole in it. Completely unplanned it just happened that way.
      I've had better luck using less pressure the first time I use a mantle.

    So is the old guide that the dark green ones with the name are thorium and the light green with the 'P' symbol yitrium gone?

      I *think* if they're "brand: Peerless" that means they're thorium.

    Hi mate, I have just purchased a 286A single mantle lantern but it came without a mantle nor a manual. I believe the correct size is 21 but I would like to know if something bigger can fit well enough for this lantern without harming it. Do you know?

    • @LanternLabs
      @LanternLabs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right about the #21, or a 2C HG in Peerless. The thing to be careful with on the newer lanterns is that the valve block is plastic. I'd be worried that a bigger mantle would put the heat that much closer to the valve and might melt it. This is why you shouldn't run newer lanterns without their heat shield.

    Good afternoon, I wanted to ask if a Lancaster green top 24-A mantle, would be compatible with a coleman 236 white gas lantern . Thank you

    • @LanternLabs
      @LanternLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll work but will be on the small side. #24 Lancaster/Peerless (same thing) are equivalent to a Coleman #99. A little bit smaller than a #11 or #111.

    Lantern lab, good morning. Is it o.k. / safe to use a peerless 2C-HG classic mantle on a Canadian 635 coleman lantern? By the way, on mantle packaging it reads 250cp. Thank u

    • @LanternLabs
      @LanternLabs  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to look up the 635, it appears to be a white gas 500cp lantern. While it's not dangerous to use a 2C-HG you won't get maximum light output. See my "You can't do that with a Coleman Lantern" video for a 500cp lantern using small mantles.
