I usually find your analysis really interesting, and I know this is just for your students. I had a different idea than you on this one. Her approach rhythm is off, and it looks like she's contacting about net height. It looks like she's simply reaching as high as she can with her right hand, so of course her right hip is going to end up closer to the ball and therefore 'opened.' There's nothing wrong with the hip opening up. In fact, if you had any of these pros jump and not swing, their hips would also end up 'opened' because they're not countering that opening rotation by swinging across their body. When you do swing across your body, then your hips get some counterclockwise rotation, so that's why the pros. Anyways, seems like the problem is that Maddy has her hips already rotated by the time she's jumping. To fix this, all she has to do is take off with her hips facing a little bit to the right of the ball. More importantly, since she's not hitting down, it might make things easier to call for off sets and look out for staying far behind the ball. Probably could approach from farther back too What do you think?
Hey, sorry didnt realize this was public and had a comment until today. The biggest ive been seeing is this over rotation. And when you say “there is a counter clockwise hip motion” thats my main point. The hips open to setup a stretch but we have to release that stretch and thats why the counter clockwise motion happens. And im see girls over rotating like this thinking they are using their hips. Well they are, but too much, where it not releasing the arm speed on time or with an efficient paths. So i just wanted her to see that the best use their hips but dont over-rotate their hips
