Rivers of Nihil "The Silent Life" from the album "Where Owls Know My Name".
But "Where Owls Know My Name" represents a massive evolutionary leap for Rivers of Nihil, as different from its predecessors as Homo sapiens are from amoeba. The band - now rounded out by guitarist Jon Topore and drummer Jared Klein - has delivered an album which is often just as punishing as its predecessors while assimilating ingredients from musical genres as varied as electronica, jazz, alternative, folk, and the golden age of Shrapnel Records. The resulting music is indescribably progressive, a multifaceted soundscape that goes beyond the wildest dreams of even the group's most ardent admirers. All bets are off; listeners are simply not prepared for the magnum opus that is "Where Owls Know My Name".
Says Brody Uttley of the offering:
"This record is Rivers of Nihil being exactly who we want to be. Many bands get stuck in a comfortable routine of releasing the same album over and over again. Constantly relying on the same familiar formula may work for some bands, but it does not work for us. Music is art, and art is ever-changing. Without change, there is no progress. Without progress, the very fire that powers art and expression will die. This record is the sound of where we come from, where we are, and where we are going."
Adds Adam Biggs:
"This time around, the lyrics feel a little more personal than on previous albums. The story picks up several millennia after the events of 'Monarchy', where one person still remains alive, chosen by the planet to be the sole intelligent witness of its ultimate fate. But 'Where Owls Know My Name' is less about overarching narrative than our previous albums. The scenario is just a backdrop for the more emotional material we tried to put forth this time around. Ultimately, this is an album about loss, getting older, and reaching a point where death becomes a much more present part of your life."

There is this guy Jørgen Munkeby, check his band Shining (nor), he also did some sax solos for Ihsahn, Marty Friedman etc.

I'll admit I hadn't heard of this band until this song was on Sirius Liquid Metal. I was hooked on the first listen. The sax....I never dreamed it could work so well in a metal song. Kudos to the band...this is awesome work.

Rain Eater They've disappointed me twice.. Of course I'll give em another chance cause I love tech death, but to me they've never done anything above serviceable..
genuinely curious as to what you didnt like/what dissapointed you. just not a fan of the first two albums?
Rain Eater I think it's their lack of creative riffs. I find most of their songs consist of djenty style chugging riffs that get incrediblely dull after one song. It can't keep my attention so I stop listening. Of course this is all just opinion.

My favorites are First Fragment, Archspire, Spawn of Possession, Augury, Inferi, Gorguts, Gorod, Replacire, A Loathing Requiem, Beyond Creation, Revocation and some others. Outside tech death I listen to a lot of Doom, so Idk if you'd actually want me to list those bands.
A few parts of the song remind me of old school Gojira. That's a good thing.

Entranahme the first few minutes give me a Way of All Flesh vibe. I think it's the bass work

It makes me think of From Mars To Sirius, because of the chugging guitar riffs over the lightning quick double kick.

When a band slows things down u can really tell how truly good they r as musicians love this.
The style of vocals and sax makes me wonder if they were listening to Ihsahn when they recorded the album? Because I'm hearing an Ihsahn influence on this song.
What makes this less brutal is the production
It focuses more on the guitars than the drums

But honestly a good drummer can carry a song and make it sound 10x better. But guitars making the atmosphere while drums are their for the heavyness imo.
But as a lover of vocals I obviously appreciate vocals more then above lol.
When that part from 2:40 starts, damn it hits like a train, it almost makes me cry, so fucking powerful.

I just listened to Deafheaven's Canary Yellow before this song. This is scratching that itch that Deafheaven couldn't. This song has so many great elements. This is how a band pushed boundaries while continuing to ROCK!
