I'am Brazilian. I lived the complete phase of Transformers of the Estrela in the 80s and 90s. Two other national companies (MIMO and Glasslite) competed against Estrela with the toys of the Bandai franchise '' Go Bots \ Machine Robot '' , here in Brazil, were called "Mutantes" and "Converts". They have come to have original concepts and ''unauthorized\unique versions'': The super machine automobile K.I.T.T. ("Knight Riders' TV show") and the super urban combat helicopter Blue Thunder became Mutantes\Go-Bots. Glasslite was entitled to the ''Blue Thunder'' and ''Knight Rider'' (''Trovão Azul'' and ''Super Machine'' in Brazil) trademarks and made a repaint on two Go-Bots to make it a " the transformable versions'' of both super vehicles of the TV. ;P Very rare and expensive for collectors, today. Nowadays, in Brazil, Estrela has lost the partnership and rights to use the ''Transformers'' franchise from Hasbro. But it went on to distribute the '' Mutantes '' brand after the collapse of rival company Glasslite. A pity ... because Estrela Brinquedos was already the biggest maker and distributor of toys in Brazil for many years. And he had the right to use almost all Hasbro and Mattel toys. Important information: Optimus and Malignus were a joint creation of distributor of toys Star and the translators of the Brazilian version of comic books of the '' Transformers '': Editora Globo \ RGE. In this way logos were created for the two factions (Optimus and Malignus), as well as a totally national logo for '' Transformers '' from Estrela. Not to mention the national names that were the first version that Brazilian children had access to: Optimus Prime was called "Supreme Absolutus"; Bumblebee was ''Furão''' (portuguese of ''Ferret ''); Brawl was '' Brigão '' (Brawler); etc. Many of these names were not even literal translations of English names. But that turned out to be quite favorable for the lore of Transformers: From Transformers Animated, it was made official that Optimus and Malignus were two factions of Autobots and Decepticons that fell in Portugal many centuries ago. And the Portuguese language was influenced by these two factions and vice versa, because the history of the Portuguese Empire had secret participation of these cybertronianos at that time. And to explain the existence of so many 'repaints' of transformers who look like various heroes and villains of the franchise, it is said that cybertronians (who in the version of toys their molds are Takara-Tomy's mini-cars) like Bumblebee they use a 'popular' transtector body model ... that is, Bumblebee (and the mini-cars) are '' ordinary people '' in Cybertron's society. There are thousands of autobots or decepticons that look like Bumblebee. Among them are the ''brazilians of Estrela'' Furão, Volks and the ''portuguese'' Moscardo. Two transformers that turn into Volkswagen beetles. ;) Two re-concepted transformers from Brazil and Portugal.
Anyone else notice Transformers Armada Cylconus in several of the backgrounds? If you don’t recognize him at first in Armada that look was when he powered with a minicon to change the cockpit.
Do you think a crossover between Transformers and Nezha is first seen in recent years? Sadly I have to tell you in fact it is not true. In the 90s, after Transformers was imported to mainland of China, it immediately became an inspiration to bootleg comic book authors (it was like the whole country was making such illegal and stupid things lol), who tended to feature "crossovers" in their bootleg stories. For example, I still remember there was a "crossover" comic book between Contra and Transformers, and more often the case, a "crossover" between foreign cartoons (Transformers, Heman, Doraemon, Astro Boy, etc) and Chinese native cartoons (Calabash Brothers, Black Cat Detective, Monkey King, etc), so Nezha could no way escape from their hands. Actually I once read one exactly being a "crossover" between Transformers and Nezha when I was in elementary school. If I recall correctly, it was saying all Transformers were evil and they were to invade earth for energy. Then there was a scene Nezha fighting a Quintesson-like monster and an Optimus Prime-like robot was saying "Hang in there Thousand-faced Monster!" I know they were not canon but it was stupidly funny ok?
Once again your videos are amazing and have given me so much new information on the Transformers truly appreciate your work man keep up the amazing work
There's a certain appeal to a global release of a lot of the euroformers. Their gimmicks would fit in really well in Cyberverse, and their ostentatious colour schemes and names could make for a great new line in general.
@@HashbrownMashup Well, some of them (like Boss and Hurricane) won't look complete in vehicle mode without them. With the recent reissue of G1 Starscream, it's likely they'll come with longer missiles. On the other hand, like the recent reissue of G1 Optimus Prime, they might live off the launchers as a cost-cutting measure (which would suck).
This is one really awesome episode of The Basics, I knew about some of these (mostly thanks to TFwiki), but not all, and I love learning more about this brand that I have loved since 1985.
This is probably my favorite video of yours. A lot of the toys that you see from areas of the world I remember seeing as a kid at flea markets here in the U.S. and thinking they were knock offs. Wish I would have bought a lot of them and kept them in good shape, they seem like they be worth a pretty penny today. Especially when I saw the original Car Robots from the 80's that actually did the the tiny pilot figure with them.
It actually interesting to see how the Transformers genre has had unique variations in several parts of the world, and the unique toys and characters that came with them!
I used to own that red and blue version of Twin Twist at 07:33 when I was a wee lad. I live in the UK and I've never been to South America, so Christ only knows where I got it from (I'm fairly certain it was just off the shelf in one of my local newsagents). I had all sorts of weird and wonderful KO Transformers back then, wish I still had them, but they inevitably ended up breaking. I had a mini Roadbuster that was about half the size of the real one. I also had a mini Snarl as well that was entirely brown and about the same size as one of the Aerialbots. I also had this thing that looked like an oversized black and gold Jumpstarter, but with a head like a robo triceratops (without the horns). If anyone knows what it's called, hit me up. I'd love to know!
Amazing. Take my mam's money hasbro, seeing any of these G2 versions years ago. There were baskets of G2 Optimus and Megatron. Friends had Trakkons, and the dark green jet, I had Sparkobots, Machine wars, even found a Beast Fighter I buried on the beach. Still have Fearswoop I still call Trakkon, Aquaspeeders and the Storm Troopers. Wasn't too dark a time, they were the dark times though.
Love Deaths Head he even went after Dr Who, I'm really hoping The Siege line will give us a Rack N' Ruin figure.Another great episode Chris keep them coming 'Till All Are One.
This is one of the most interesting videos you have given, there were various Transformers here I didn´t knew about, like the Chinese and the South American versions of Transformers!

So cool see the Transformers around the world, there are a lot of things that I didn't know like the releases in Brazil, even though I'm Brazilian. Excelent video, and sorry for any english errors
Oh man. I had so many of those early 90s transformers that were sold here in Australia. I'd actually complète forgotten about them since they're not in any cartoons. The amount of nostalgia right now is through the roof!
Quick note about the Rescue Force: Only _four_ of the SIX Breastforce members were released, and none of them came with accessories designed to help them combine. (The Constructicons, re-released in yellow the same year, also were retooled to include none of the Devastator parts/weapons or spring-loaded weapon features (Mixmaster). Kind of obvious, the Generation 2 Constructicons -- yellow and orange -- are based on the early 1990s U.K. Constructicons, with Devastator parts hastily re-added.)
As a kid, I'd spend summers in England with relatives. I remember owning a couple British Transformers. One was Rapido, a red race car. The second was Zap, an orange car with an engine that was also his gun.
I've never heard of Transformers: Portal before. As much as I love these videos, it's pretty rare for me to learn any new information from them given how big a Transformers nerd I am, so to learn about an entire series I knew nothing about is quite a surprise.
great video !! I am from Argentina and I remember when I was a child they gave me many Transformers figures including the stereos cassette AM ... Regards Chris!
In the late 1980s, I went with my mom to visit family in Mexico. Before heading back home to the states, my mom wanted to buy me a toy at a local toy store. I distinctly remember having to decide between a Devastator 6 transformer set or Ironhide. Because my older brothers already had two Constructicons, I went with Ironhide. Even though I kick myself now for not getting the Devastator set, I had a lot of fun back then playing with Ironhide. He still sits on my shelf to this day.
There's been over a hundred original Korean "Transformers" since 2010 - and they are mostly from Tobot and Hello Carbot! These robot franchises are what Korean children have and will grow up with instead of Transformers: Tobot from YoungToys Hello Carbot from ChoiRock Contents Factory (Sonokong is just the distributor) and some other smaller original brands like Geo Mecha, Biklonz, Metalions, Jurassic Cops, etc. and "Transformers" that are more toward action card game and Super Sentai genres like Mecard and Miniforce.
I wonder if anyone that works at Hasbro, or is planning to work there, is watching this and thinking "huh, maybe we should include more of these guys".
Amazing and informative. I'm sure you get this a lot, but I didn't read the older comics much. So due to his seemingly increasing kill list I'd like to see one on the Killmonger which is cosmically powered Starscream.
Surprisingly hasn't been done yet (it appears), but I'd like to see a Basics on the Gen 1 Predaking/Predacons group...usually depicted as one of the most fluid of the gestalt combiners in most of the background lore.
I still have Lightspeed, one of the Motorvator figures, lying around at home. I'd completely forgotten every detail concerning the toy until my young nephew found it and asked me about it. A limited bit of research led me to Braver, which rang no bells at all, so it's good to know that it was probably released under the other name back in the day. Thanks for that.
9:40 Hasbro had extra G2 and BM toys to dump into Robots in Disguise, Sonokong had nothing but extra Beast Wars II toys to dump into Korean Robots in disguise, Jeonguiui Yongsa: Car Bot (정의의 용사 카봇, "Brave Heroes of Justice: Car-Bots").

Then there was a scene Nezha fighting a Quintesson-like monster and an Optimus Prime-like robot was saying "Hang in there Thousand-faced Monster!"
I know they were not canon but it was stupidly funny ok?
Thank you Chris McFeely, you did an amazing job!
Thanks for your support, Safior, glad you enjoyed it! :D
@@ChrisMcFeely You welcome.
To bad that , once again, Africa is the left over of pop culture.
Once again your videos are amazing and have given me so much new information on the Transformers truly appreciate your work man keep up the amazing work
This is why I love your channel. Without it I probably wouldn’t have learned about Transformers Portal and now I will try to watch it
Wish Hasbro would reissue the European transformers.
Yeah, so their missiles will be ridiculously long.
If universe King Atlas (the Skyquake repaint) is any precedent they just won't include the launchers at all.
That would be awesome. A lot of them just needs more joints.
Great episode! I learned about so many characters I'd never heard of before!
This is one really awesome episode of The Basics, I knew about some of these (mostly thanks to TFwiki), but not all, and I love learning more about this brand that I have loved since 1985.
Man I forgot that I owned the Bat-Robo. Damn this took me back
I've heard about some of these but there were a lot that were new to me. This is one large franchise.
oh Primus please yes more of these transformers around the world
Wow amazing episode ! Excellent investigation job !!
Whoop! New episode!!!
Also, as a suggestion for a future episode, The Basics On: Gold Plastic Syndrome
I think the Nezha story is a fantastic idea.
This episode just blew my mind
Love Deaths Head he even went after Dr Who, I'm really hoping The Siege line will give us a Rack N' Ruin figure.Another great episode Chris keep them coming 'Till All Are One.
I do like Dr Who but I gave up on the new show when Peter Capaldi took over.
@@SwordInTheStorm I stuck out till Jodie hit.
Always a pleasure learning more about the Transformers we never got to see in the states.
Man, I know the Transformers were a global phenomenon, but didn't know at how big of a scale, thats amazing
This is one of the most interesting videos you have given, there were various Transformers here I didn´t knew about, like the Chinese and the South American versions of Transformers!
Well, thats me taken to school today! Wouldn't mind seeing a few new toys of those lesser known characters doing the rounds. We need new toys of Thunderclash and Snare :)
So cool see the Transformers around the world, there are a lot of things that I didn't know like the releases in Brazil, even though I'm Brazilian. Excelent video, and sorry for any english errors
*Decepticon Stormtroopers*
Oh yeah. That's some good Basics.
Oh man. I had so many of those early 90s transformers that were sold here in Australia. I'd actually complète forgotten about them since they're not in any cartoons.
The amount of nostalgia right now is through the roof!
Wow, great episode. Whole bunch of stuff I didn't know about. Thanks.
This was really interesting! Never knew about a lot of these releases.
awesome chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday Morning Cartoons at its finest! Well done Chris.
Wow this is something that really needs to be done by country!!!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!
Completely introduced new characters to me all except the wreckers.
I did not see that coming...but it’s just as awesome
great video !! I am from Argentina and I remember when I was a child they gave me many Transformers figures including the stereos cassette AM ... Regards Chris!
Change it up sometime and do an episode on what will be the nostalgia of 20 years from now: Rescue Bots (AKA Bobots as my toddler calls them)
Always very impressed with your research you must do. 👍
Great video...some of it I knew about and some I did not!! Keep these videos coming bro look forward to what you have next.
1:31 Flame looks like Hot Rod. Nice. 😁
Really interesting! Question though - why would High Moon/Ford not just call the pick-up Wildtrack? That actually sounds alright!
Interesting to see how many characters you can find around the world.
I love how rotorstorm is getting a new figure
These robot franchises are what Korean children have and will grow up with instead of Transformers:
Tobot from YoungToys
Hello Carbot from ChoiRock Contents Factory (Sonokong is just the distributor)
and some other smaller original brands like Geo Mecha, Biklonz, Metalions, Jurassic Cops, etc.
and "Transformers" that are more toward action card game and Super Sentai genres like Mecard and Miniforce.
This is superb! I'm most impressed by how much disparate material you've found out about, located, and included!! I learned a lot!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if anyone that works at Hasbro, or is planning to work there, is watching this and thinking "huh, maybe we should include more of these guys".
I'm from Brazil, and I think I had a helicopter by Glaslite from the transformers line
Got that for ya right here, chum! th-cam.com/video/6xEt3wPNzXQ/w-d-xo.html
Yeah, Braver was the Japanese Brainmaster version of the toy, along with Laster (Flame) and Blacker (Gripper).
@@Brickerbrack Cool to know. Cheers.
9:40 Hasbro had extra G2 and BM toys to dump into Robots in Disguise, Sonokong had nothing but extra Beast Wars II toys to dump into Korean Robots in disguise, Jeonguiui Yongsa: Car Bot (정의의 용사 카봇, "Brave Heroes of Justice: Car-Bots").
Hope we can see basics episodes around all these unique and lesser known transformers.
several of the gimmicks were ahead of their time, we will never see them again in today's figures.
I love this show
