Thank you for showing this. I had to do this scan recently and was terrified. The potential of parkinsons vs the actual scan potentially causing claustrophobia was a lot.
For those who do need to do this, you can see out of the sides and it’s not always just in front of your face. It rotates slowly around your head a little at a time. You can just lay there and see out the sides and part of the top when it’s in your facial area so it’s not claustrophobic like an MRI is. For mine it started above me and moved a few degrees to my left facing upwards, stayed for maybe a minute or two and moved again. All very smooth and at my clinic they had a nice art on the ceiling of clouds so you could just focus on that or just close your eyes and chill until it’s done. I have a tremor but was able to be comfortable head wise to hold my head still and didn’t need the wedges. I think they did use some stretchy tape to tape my head down but didn’t really feel trapped or constricted. My arms needed a place to go and there are no armrests so that’s a flaw in design but they gave me a big loop of vinyl that goes under your arms and velcros on top but not velcroed to the table so I could have taken it off if I wanted to.
The point of that was you can then relax your arms in this wide loop of vinyl fabric (like a pool float) and just lay there and zone out. It wasn’t that long feeling after the 3 hour wait from the time you get a thyroid blocking medicine orally and Iv tracer. If you have trouble with IV placement you can request a nurse that’s more expert at IV’s so no need to dig around to find a vein. They have an ultrasound machine and can find one that way. Not everyone has that problem tho so no worries if you have good veins.
Good luck to anyone worried about this. I was lucky and no signs of degeneration.

This test is a money grab. The neurologist I had switched to after being diagnosed with Parkinsons.
I was diagnosed at 59. The first visit he asked about Medicare. I wasn't eldogable yet.
He did NONE of the prior testing I had.
The test is $10,000 dollars and requires pre authoization. My portion would be $1,500
Twice over the course of 3 years he threatened to cut off my medication.
I went back to the hospital who gave the original diagnosis and am now in Parkinson's stage 2 based on non invasive tests.

This scan is for the sole purpose of seeing how far exactly their Parkinson has progressed.

To measure what areas of the brain are taking in dopamine. In Parkinson's and parkinsonian syndromes less dopamine is taken in.
