Before I started knitting and was just watching podcasts and videos I was surprised how often PetiteKnit was a wip or finished object - but now as a knitter I TOTALLY get it and have bought several of her patterns for future projects. No shame in enjoying a designer who makes items you want.
I think more crafters need to talk about what others, and sometimes ourselves, consider "selfish knitting/crafting". There is nothing selfish about it. We make things because it gives us pleasure. If we choose to share what we create, great. If we don't that isn't selfish, it is our time, our money, and our skills to do with as we choose. We don't ask non-crafters to arbitrarily hand over their money and time to us or make them feel guilty because they don't, or won't. Glad you spoke up about it!
Yep, been here since the absolute beginning of your knitting podcast and have loved every second of it 🧶 Like you said in the end, absolutely stoked, that a lot of my favourite podcasters have uploaded whilst I was away and I get to catch up with all of them before it's back to work for me next week! Also, whilst watching I finished my Broderie Neckerchief by Beautiful Knitters, which I had started on my holiday in Spain, and continued on my Kerr Sweater.
Another great video. I love a long one sometimes, perfect for knitting to. Your acquisitions look great. I’m excited to see how they turn out. And the Marcu Polo is definitely a magnum opus! That much knitting would probably overwhelm me! Glad you’re almost at the finish line. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is definitely a classic. My dad calls the movie “Teenage Jeans” 😂
The amount of joy I get when people tell me they started watching Heartstopper because of me is next level 🥹💕 so glad you enjoyed it!! Lovely episode as always.
🧶I think I found you when you put up your second podcast. I am always so happy when I see there is a new video posted. I am originally from Germany but moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2007. I really, really wanted to come to Flock and say hi to you and Chelsea and a bunch of the other podcasters I love to watch (and see all the yarn of course lol). Unfortunately I couldn't make it work. It will be my number one priority next year and maybe you'll be back in a couple years 🙂
Catching up on your videos 😊 Honestly, I always wear more neutral colors with rust/ green/ blue/ mustard, but for some reason often feel some kind of internal pressure to buy the more colorful yarns even though I won’t wear those colors. So I appreciate your self awareness and showing your neutral knits!
Agree knit what you want even if it’s all petite knit…. And also agree on this is our hobby / passion…. Enjoy it and don’t feel guilty… appreciate the reminder cause I sometimes feel as you do. Hugs
I can see how knitting for yourself can feel selfish, but ultimately it’s a creative pursuit and so you need to give in and follow the muse. At least for me that’s part of the joy of this hobby.
I know exactly what you mean about gift knitting for family. I have 6 adult children, all with partners, and 2 grandchildren on the way. I've recently bought labels on Etsy that say "I'm never making anything for you again so look after this!" then washing/care instructions. I'm making one thing, then offering to support them if they want to learn to knit. Although my grandchildren will be getting lots haha
🧶🤗 I love the blue yarn (on you) - I would recommend trying it out. Nevertheless if you do not feel it, don’t do it and enjoy knitting up all the other gorgeous ones! ☺️
Marlene loved the podcast!!! Your FO’s are gorgeous. I actually casted on the Sunday socks and I’m so excited to have them. They look so cozy for fall and winter. Also omg that terrazzo slipover is on my queue and I just ordered yarn for it. Yours is so beautiful. I love all your yarn haul and haha I have the same LB fisherman’s wool in that same color and 2 other colors as well. Making some fall winter knits with it. Also would be first time working with it as well. I want to try the kelbourne Angora and I’m thinking of purchasing some. I loved the last few minutes about the books and movies. Those movies you mentioned are my all time favorites. I’m glad Chelsea told you to watch them. I know them by heart and still cry 😂 the sisterhood of the traveling pants is a movie and book series very special to me because I introduced my daughter to it when she was young and it’s been our special movies which we watch and rewatch and we have read the books together as well. Also, those 4 books you mentioned 3 of them were gifted to me by my daughter. I really want to read book lovers and I’m glad to hear you listed it as your fave out of the 4. Thanks for such a great podcast. Also a fellow newbie podcaster here and totally understand where you are coming from. We love doing it for sure it’s just a lot of work and you still have many other responsibilities so definitely I hear you. And so it’s ok that you did some housekeeping. Happy Knitting 🧶 so glad to have connected with you because of Chelsea.
I love that you and your daughter enjoy that movie so much too! its really great and you should definitely consider reading some of emily henry's books some day! 🧡 excited to try out the lion brand fishermann's wool too and thank you for checking out my channel through chelsea, I appreciate it :)
🧶 I really loved this long video! Whatched it in two parts and loved seeing all the new yarns. Can't wait to hear about your fall plans in the next video (it's on my to watch list for sure!). I also had the same feeling about Happy Place and the same feeling about Petite Knit patterns, they're just so good😂
It appears we were in the Seattle area at the same time. I also bought the exact same color way in Ampersand at La Mercerie on Bainbridge Island (sweater’s quantity as well)! It does seem lovely, but I have yet to pick out a pattern yet. I didn’t know there was going to be a yarn festival until just a few days prior to the event and there were no more tickets left. Maybe next year! It was fun seeing your yarn haul! 🤗
This video was perfectly timed to be the same length as my 2-month-old daughter's nap. Haha! So I thankfully got through it in one sitting while finishing up my Penny Gloves and continuing working on a Carl's Cardigan for a baby shower I'm going to next month. Also, hello from the Canadian PNW (British Columbia). I've just made a note on my map the Tea Cozy knitting shop in Seattle, so hopefully if I go down to the US sometime soon, I can visit that shop!
aww I’m so glad you were able to sit down for some time and dedicate it to knitting and spent some time with me while doing it 🤎 it’s truly worth it! would love to visit canada too one day too ☺️
🧶 Just a really short comment, that‘s coming from my heart: you should definitely keep the yarn, it suits you soooo well! I am also blond and I really like to wear blues.
I always love your podcasts and updates! I can’t believe it’s almost been a year, I remember finding your podcast early on, and really appreciate your commentary on the craft. Thank you for sharing Marlene! 😊 🧶
I made that jumper and the saddle shoulder was tight until I blocked it. It's now gorgeously smooth!! Maybe do a midway block now to check that it's okay?
I loooove all the yarn you got while you were here in the PNW. I, like you, also love all the neutrals and those colors also make me happy. I’m so glad you mentioned that sometimes you forget to follow some people you watch because I can see that happening to me and that is why I always try to follow the channel before I finished the episode. We all work so hard behind the scenes, but it’s so nice when you get one more person to show their love right ? And just so you know I don’t think it sounds creepy to say you love the people who follows and also love you back … I think there are different kinds of love and the more we share and spread love, the better the world will be. I also want to be friends with the people that watch or follow me and I feel that it’s people like you, that express their feelings, that makes the world a better place. 💖
Really enjoying your channel! I watch a lot of podcasts while working from home, so my attention is often split, but I always try to go back through all the episodes I've watched and like them :) Thanks for your podcasting efforts!
Great to see you back after your trip! I'm taking your same approach for my gift for my husband this year; I'll be making a little sweater decoration and gifting him yarn for an actual sweater. And here's a double yarn emoji 🧶🧶, because I've actually been here since your first podcast episode! I've been loving seeing your progress over the last year
when I knit the ankor summer tee I used drops belle and had to use the yarn to the last bit... even had to unravel my swatch to get that last 1-2 cm of ribbing
Your polo tee looks so incredibly good, it really shows how far you've come in your knitting journey. I am working on a cumulus tee right now and had to go down in needle size and it takes ages. From time to time it goes into timeout because I'm tired of working on it, but I still love the fabric and hope to finish it somewhen. 🧶 I totally understand your feelings about the Long Dog One Collection. I loved it so much, but the shipping was just very expensive. Glad you had the opportunity with Chelsea, it's awesome.
I think your sporty sock stripes look great! On my own socks, when I do stripes with a contrast heel and toe, I usually use a different contrast color for the stripes. Maybe give that a go next time. But also nothing wrong with single-color socks :)
Your marcu polo is the most perfect neutral and looks so comfy! I can relate though, when I was knitting my agnete cardigan I would need to take long, long breaks away from the project. By the time I finished it, I had taken 8 months since casting on. However, it was so worth it! I wear it all the time and I've recently fallen in love with projects that are knit on smaller needles because they are so comfy to wear.
🧶 over here as well ☺️ I would say keep the Sewrella oopsie yarn, on screen it seems like it would really suit you. I think it would look great in any of the simple looking but detailed finishing patterns like Elizabeth blouse or some (not too open) lace project like the barbroe blouse by knitting for olive 😍
I LOVED this super long video! I got so much work done on my Lyon sweater and loved watching you go through everything you're working on/stashing while I did that. I'm also so ready for fall in the PNW :')
About the Northland sweater, I made it a year ago for my husband with Drops Karisma and Drops Brushed Alpaca, and I did experience the same bunching up around the neck. I don't know if it was solved immediately after the first or the second blocking, but the yarn did relax into place and the neckline looks amazing. I wouldn't worry about it ❤
I enjoyed this more chatty podcast format. Same feelings about a polo neck, but then I saw someone at work wear a black knitted one (store bought), and since then the idea has floated my mind. Black knit on 2mm though... that might be tough :D
I just recently found your videos and now I’m binging them! Makes me want to make knitting podcasts, too! Question- I’m a long time knitter but still haven’t figured out how to store my knits (recent moth incident has me scared now 😬) or the best ways to wash my knitted garments! Do you have any tips!?
hey kelsea, thank you for being here ☺️ I wash them in the tab or bath with lukewarm water and some wool wash and hair let’s them soak in it, just gently swishing it around (avoiding too much friction and heat/ changing of water temperature), for about 15 mins to whenever I remember I left it in the water. I then gently squeeze out the water, wrapping it in a towel and stepping on it to get out more water + I sometimes put my knits in the spinning cycle (800-1000/ so not too high) before laying it flat out to dry! about the big bad M problem, this is what I do and so far *knock on wood* this worked: clean out your wardrobe 2 a year when changing seasonal pieces, put the out of season clean pieces in an airtight container or plastic bag and store in basement. clean wardrobe with a hot water and vinegar solution and let dry completely before putting back your stuff. i then hang up most of my knits next to my closet and move them around every couple weeks, moths don’t like that, they would go to a dark and undisturbed place.. some people don’t like to hang up their knits because it could affect the shape of the garment but I don’t mind.. I also have lavender pouches as well as cedar balls and moth traps 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I am going to be the odd one out I think, but even just now the thing you mentioned about a different lot of yarn you are destashing because it was cold on you. I think this color will also be cold on you. Of course I’ll be with you by watching all of your videos. And yes I can put a yarn ball 🧶 because I have watched you from the start. I live in the Seattle area and had hoped to get to flock, but it was my husband‘s 60th birthday and we were away for a week. Enjoy all your podcasts and really enjoyed you and Chelsea together. Cheers, Karyol.
hey karyol, that’s so true, but the destashed yarn was a very light and cold color which bothered me, I think a dark cold would be a lot easier for me to get away with! thank you so much and I hope you get to go next time, it really was a blast ☺️🧡
I love your videos so much! I am still a beginner knitter and I love listening to your podcasts while I knit! Currently I am knitting the weekend hat by petiteknit Love from Italy 🤍
Love watching your videos! You’ve got such an interesting style and love seeing and following what you knit and your acquisitions 🥰 Currently knitting the Semper Sweater V-Neck by the Knit Purl Girl
thank you so much! oh I've never heard that one before :o I've heard that I look a bit like Izzy from Grey's Anatomy or the german actress Sonja Gerhardt in the series Ku'damm before
🧶 I love your partner’s sweater 😮 I’m still working up the courage to knit my husband one. He is so picky about the fiber on his skin so I’m in no rush 😂. He has loved his socks though
If you want more of your body seen, try lowering your camera to take the height to the ceiling above you away. You can bring the focus down from the top of your head down. We don’t need to see your ceiling. It is just angled wrong.
I know! like I said, I’m working on it :) It was right before I was able to buy a real tripod so this video was still filmed with my phone balancing on boxes and books
Dear Marlene, thanks for such a looong podcast episode! I finally finished the neck of my cumulus tee that took me exactly the length of your video 😄 I love all the yarn you bought in the US and especially the sock sets 😍 Not to forget to put a 🧶icon in here, I'm also currently knitting a sweater for my boyfriend. Have a wonderful Sunday, Jill from jillsknits
Hi Marlene - Towards the beginning of your episode you mentioned a podcaster that was talking about "Nora Ephron Autumn", could you share who that was, please? I think you said "Casey" or "Kaci", something like that. Thanks!
Love your channel/knits! For what it’s worth, I think that Sewrella yarn looks lovely with your complexion and hair, though it’s hard to see the tones on video compared to in person. I was thinking, if the purple tones are muted, it might look nice with a cool colored dark brown mohair or alpaca to bring the shade closer to your aesthetic. Just an idea! 😊
Unpopular opninion: I'm a knitter and I love knitting woolly and cozy garments BUT I hate the cold so Autumn and Winter are my least favourite seasons. I'm a Spring girl all the way
I think you’re not alone with this! right now, after a long and hot summer I just think the autumn girlies their most outspoken selves (myself included 🤭) but I‘ll be craving spring again when seasonal depression hits mid january 🥺
Oh Marlene its my first time watching a podcast from the beginning up to end.. I really enjoy and im in paradise too with all of that yummy woolly fiber!!!!❤❤❤btw im knitting elisabeth blouse by Petiteknit....
the kelbourne woolen is actually called ink black so it’s a blue black and speakeasy is described as ‚A flirty, deep plum black that’s inspired by the nightlife all over New York.‘ so yeah, they have black properties but to me they also have blues/purples. they’re showing off differently on different screens and also we all see colors differently too 😌
Before I started knitting and was just watching podcasts and videos I was surprised how often PetiteKnit was a wip or finished object - but now as a knitter I TOTALLY get it and have bought several of her patterns for future projects. No shame in enjoying a designer who makes items you want.
so true!! thanks for watching and saying that, it makes a lot of sense if you out it like that 😊
I think more crafters need to talk about what others, and sometimes ourselves, consider "selfish knitting/crafting". There is nothing selfish about it. We make things because it gives us pleasure. If we choose to share what we create, great. If we don't that isn't selfish, it is our time, our money, and our skills to do with as we choose. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is definitely a classic. My dad calls the movie “Teenage Jeans” 😂
oh yeah, thats definitely the word I was missing to describe it! thanks 🥰 and your dad's so funny, hahaa
The amount of joy I get when people tell me they started watching Heartstopper because of me is next level 🥹💕 so glad you enjoyed it!! Lovely episode as always.
such a great influence!! 🌈 thank youu 💕

delightful to watch you!

thank you, I will! 🩵
🧶🙋🏻♀️ thanks for another fun video to put on while i knit myself 😊
I honestly believe that the sewrella yarn will look stunning on you. BUT that may be me living vicariously through you since that is my go-to colour.
I always love your podcasts and updates! I can’t believe it’s almost been a year, I remember finding your podcast early on, and really appreciate your commentary on the craft. Thank you for sharing Marlene! 😊 🧶

I like videos as I watch them. It's how I keep track of all the videos I've finished. 🧶
great tipp! thank you ☺️

🧶 I think that dark blue-ish color would look stunning in the elisabeth blouse and i’m sure you could pull it off 😇
I just recently found you and have been enjoying your podcast during my afternoon knitting. Thank you for doing these❤
Oh also keep the dark blue sewrella yarn I think it looks really good against your complexion.
🧶
Love all your podcasts.
thank you patricia 🧡

awesome thanks for the feedback 🧡 would love to see more of the PNW and more seasons to!
I wouldn't worry about it ❤
thanks for saying that, it really helps! :) I was hoping it would
I love all of your yarn and loved the yarn you got from Sewrella … if it was me I would keep them 😍💖
thank you! I think I might hold on to it and keep on the look out for a suiting pattern ☺️
I enjoyed this more chatty podcast format. Same feelings about a polo neck, but then I saw someone at work wear a black knitted one (store bought), and since then the idea has floated my mind. Black knit on 2mm though... that might be tough :D
I’ve been working on my Eurus Sweater by Aeygo! ❤
I enjoyed your new yarn tour! So fun to see you get so giddy with your yarn! Joy?
yes! thank you :)
I just recently found your videos and now I’m binging them! Makes me want to make knitting podcasts, too!
Question- I’m a long time knitter but still haven’t figured out how to store my knits (recent moth incident has me scared now 😬) or the best ways to wash my knitted garments! Do you have any tips!?
hey kelsea, thank you for being here ☺️
I wash them in the tab or bath with lukewarm water and some wool wash and hair let’s them soak in it, just gently swishing it around (avoiding too much friction and heat/ changing of water temperature), for about 15 mins to whenever I remember I left it in the water.
@@marleneknits Thank you!!! “The big bad M problem” 🤣 don’t say the word!!! Lol
Cheers, Karyol.
hey karyol,
that’s so true, but the destashed yarn was a very light and cold color which bothered me, I think a dark cold would be a lot easier for me to get away with!
thank you so much and I hope you get to go next time, it really was a blast ☺️🧡
I love your videos so much! I am still a beginner knitter and I love listening to your podcasts while I knit! Currently I am knitting the weekend hat by petiteknit
Love from Italy 🤍
thank you! I love to hear that 💛
I didn’t know I could gift a pattern!, yes Queen absolutely I’ll do that!
thank you so much I really appreciate it 🧡
I really like your videos. 😊 This was a very nice extra long podcast. ❤I almost finished the rib of Sorvete top.
Knitted on my first pair of socks while watching! Made good progress with such a long video ☺️
that’s wonderful, love sock knitting 🧶💛
It has been 30+ degrees all week in Belgium. Can't say I am feeling autumn yet...
aww yes, it’s been super hot here too, I‘m just hoping and anticipating colder weather and some cozy evenings on my couch ✨
Love watching your videos! You’ve got such an interesting style and love seeing and following what you knit and your acquisitions 🥰 Currently knitting the Semper Sweater V-Neck by the Knit Purl Girl
aww that you, that’s so sweet of you to say ☺️ gorgeous pattern! what color yarn are you using for it?
@@marleneknits I’ve decided to knit it in a light blue colour (KFO’s Dusty Dove Blue) as I’m currently going through a blue phase 😅
I love watching yout vlogs! And you so remind me of a young Julie Delpy!
thank you so much! oh I've never heard that one before :o I've heard that I look a bit like Izzy from Grey's Anatomy or the german actress Sonja Gerhardt in the series Ku'damm before
🧶 I love your partner’s sweater 😮 I’m still working up the courage to knit my husband one. He is so picky about the fiber on his skin so I’m in no rush 😂. He has loved his socks though
thank you! fortunately my partner isn’t picky or sensitive to pricklier yarn 🤞🏼
Have a wonderful Sunday, Jill from jillsknits
hah, I love that so many used the long episode to get some good progress on their projects! ☺️ thank you so much jill 🧡 you too!
Hi Marlene - Towards the beginning of your episode you mentioned a podcaster that was talking about "Nora Ephron Autumn", could you share who that was, please? I think you said "Casey" or "Kaci", something like that. Thanks!
of course! I was talking about Kaci Apple from @youngfolk.knits on instagram and youngfolk knits youtube :)
@@marleneknits thank you!
thanks, that’s a cool idea! 😊 i’ll keep it in mind and thanks for watching and commenting!
Lovely episode, can't wait to see your autumn plans. 🧶🧶🧶🧶been here since your first episode
thank you for sticking with me, manon 💛
Hi from France !
Thanks for this really Nice podcast ! And definitly this deep blue yarn suits you so nicely !!!
Emma 🌞
Unpopular opninion: I'm a knitter and I love knitting woolly and cozy garments BUT I hate the cold so Autumn and Winter are my least favourite seasons. I'm a Spring girl all the way
I think you’re not alone with this! right now, after a long and hot summer I just think the autumn girlies their most outspoken selves (myself included 🤭) but I‘ll be craving spring again when seasonal depression hits mid january 🥺
🧶 😊
Oh Marlene its my first time watching a podcast from the beginning up to end.. I really enjoy and im in paradise too with all of that yummy woolly fiber!!!!❤❤❤btw im knitting elisabeth blouse by Petiteknit....
🧶❤
🤭 thanks for being here for such a long time already!
the blue colours you are showing are black
the kelbourne woolen is actually called ink black so it’s a blue black and speakeasy is described as ‚A flirty, deep plum black that’s inspired by the nightlife all over New York.‘ so yeah, they have black properties but to me they also have blues/purples. they’re showing off differently on different screens and also we all see colors differently too 😌
Regarding knitting for others…often people don’t appreciate hand made gifts. That is disheartening.
