Enjoyed that, shame I can't share a whisky ( I have a few bottles of Laphroaig Select, a rather delish' Islay malt thats no too heavy on the pocket) I am happy to say I spent a grand weekend 1:1 with Ray Down the Tryweryn and up and down the Dee, poling up to Serpents Tail and paddle back. Looking forward to the time I can launch my canoe again :)
Yes, the Canadian wilderness is best described with the canoe, especially in Ontario. And, Ray Goodwin is entertaining, informative, and that was a great discussion, again. Thank you Kevin.
My two favorite celebrities together? Wouldn't have missed that for the world. I hope to one day meet you both in person, and maybe have you devalue you're respective books for me. Thanks again.
Love these two. Have both Canoeing (Ray) and Winter Camping (Kevin) books on my shelf. Hope to meet you gents one day. Meanwhile I'm stuck in New Jersey, so what starter whiskey do you recommend for a neophyte?
Thanks. I hope it inspired you to get out there - when all this virus stuff is gone. I'd say, don't start with something too peaty. The one Ray had with him - his third choice - is good. Or Highlander. Cheers.
A single malt speyside is a good one to start with. My "training whisky" was Macallan 10, then progressed onto Oban 14, and after that a Caol Ila. Sip it, don't slam it, and remember to smell it too - that's where half the fun is.
Another good one kevin, Love what Ray does as well as yourself, stay safe and look after your family. Many thanks. Nige. Ps I have heard that the haggis has developed the ability to swim in salt water, owing to its offset legs it can circumnavigate the earth in 48 hours, be afraid 😨
Kevin - is Ray Goodwin the same guy that is in the 2nd half of Ray Mears' Canoe Journey film? (the Missinaibi River) cause it sure looks like him. Been a while since I've seen it though
Really enjoyed this interview!

It was great fun with Kevin. see you on the water
Don't forget Ray the offer is still on,:if you see our white van and we're in, pop in for a tea/coffee/whisky
“If I sign it, it might be worth less” - Ray Mears said the same about one of his books when I asked him to sign it for my friend.
Absolutely fantastic, I enjoyed all of this chatting and enthusiasm from two great skill paddling explorers.
Ray is so classy and well spoken...loved the interview! Thanks again Kevin!
I just ordered the book.
It's a good read
Short of having a whisky with you both in person, that was a good second. Cheers guys!
Looking forward to your session with Kevin.
The English is very nice. And the distillery is only up the road from me too!
What a great conversation, thank you for sharing
Brilliant

KCHappyCamper thanks for the tip and keep up the good work!
Yep with Kevin on that. A Speyside malt is the way to start. West Coast malt, for most, are an acquired taste.

Great to see this chat. I'd love to meet Ray some day.

Yes that was me. A little older, a lot more grey hair and a bit heavier after all these years but still doing it.
@@RayGoodwinCanoe Very cool, thanks for the reply Ray! Question for you - do you still have that beast of a paddle you carved out while on that trip?
The paddle and spatula are on my wall.
