Leffe Ruby was the name. I was in Lidl last night, they had so many beers i'd not seen before. I got the Premium pils with the glass, the wheat beer, the festbier, a 4 pack of Bornem, 5 cans of perlenbacher radler, a large bottle of 'blanche' and as much Spaten as I could fit in my trolley, what a haul.
At £3.29 for 750ml 7.1% beer imported is showing how giant breweries are pulling our pants down with saying they're reducing ABV due to tax. You can still buy lots of 6%+ beers for a decent price from the smaller breweries. Consumers need to stop buying the cheap cases from supermarkets and support the small breweriesl
Spot on Simon. Sitting in a sunny garden now supping a glass or two of this now.
Lidl at present have a fantastic selection of high end beers not available in other well known supermarkets.
Bravo Lidl.
Abbaye de Vauclair is from Brasserie Goulant, who also make la Goudale, another 7.2% biere de garde which is 4 x 330ml bottles for £6.75 from Morrisons. This is slightly cheaper but probably the same thing, just rebottled for Lidl with a generic label.
Picked this one up and tried it yesterday. Seemed to have some new world hops and tasted more like a pale ale than a biere de garde. Drinkable, but I prefer La Goudale (available at Morrisons).
Perfect way to start this beautifully sunny day (well it is in Suffolk).
Crikey that's a first for Lidl isn't it 😅 Looks like it has great potential for a party, looks posh but keeps the cost down low!
I washed my breakfast down with this yesterday after nightshift. Its a stone the crows for me. Ill be getting some in for the weekend thats for sure.
“Stone the 🐦⬛! stone the crows “!!🐦⬛ 😂, Lidl here I come 🏃♀️, Caroline Ireland 🇮🇪
i picked up a bottle yesterday eve ..nice to find this endorsement review today ..
good review and reflections 🍻
I went out and bought a bottle of this this week, absolutely fantastic 👌🏼
Probably the first time I’ve bought anything like this. I’m normally a Spanish lager kind of beer man. Will be stocking up some more of this tomorrow!
I got yesterday abbaye de vauclaire blonde at 6.1 % abv for about 2 euros/pcs. Is a damn good beer for 2 euros/750 ml bottle.
I tried one of them last week and i had the same conclusion. Great beer and 1 bottle was enough for me 😀
Frumento is the italian for wheat. Great beer and another great review
Lidl knocking it out of the park yet again. Their limited time beers are nearly always brilliant.
Said it before, I'm sure, but speaking of posh bottles, you've GOT to try the Sainsbury's Taste The Difference 'Summer Days' blonde ale!
I’ve seen it on the shelves and have overlooked it. Guessing it’s really good?
@@andrewsteer8860 yes mate, french brewed and is a treat if near a barbeque
I love a biere de garde... they're getting harder to find on my side of the pond lately, although I did have one for the first time in years last week.
Watching this video last night and got all excited, popped into Lidl on the wy home and.... they didn't have this beer in 😢 - Oh well bought some Lefe, Starapomen and Budwieser Budvar instead, maybe next time 😄
I saw this in lidl but they also had st feuillien blonde which im rather fond of so i got that and some crius which im yet to try looks like im going back to get some this great review simon
Biere de Garde almost sounds like a Saison, a stronger beer stored all winter for the farm workers to enjoy in summer ! 👍
I noticed they also had the dark Leffe beer that was still 6.5% and not brewed in the UK.
The ABV of the Brune is 6.5% everywhere; it has never changed.
@@geraldphillips1450 the blonde one was lowered to 6%. I saw the Brune and noticed it wasn't brewed in the UK like the blonde one.
@@TrancetasticWilza Yes I know - that isn't news though; it was only ever the blonde one they changed. Non UK brewed Brune at 6.5% is available in every supermarket all the time.
Lidls festival beer is outstanding
Simon, that nice Aldi Steinhauser is not in stock in any of the stores I’ve tried. Let’s hope they get it in stock
I spotted this. I'm praying if steinhauser stops they need to get that perlenbacher premium pilsner in. Top stuff but I can't justify buying a glass every time
@@jamesmochan8576non of my local ones have it, been after the glass too hope they get them back
Once again Lidl does it again! 2 in my evening shop latter after work 👍👍👍
Btw, Simon, I picked up a bottle of Staropramen from Lidl yesterday and looking at the back label, it seems to be made in Czech Republic. Is that correct? It certainly tasted good. In any case, could you do a taste comparison (maybe even a blind test) between Czech brewed and UK brewed versions of the same beers (like Staropramen and some other lagers)? That would be really interesting.
I wondered the same, the bottle gave me the impression it was brewed in Prague and in my amateur assessment I'd suggest the same.
@@adamw8579 I checked a Staropramen bottle in Morrison's this morning and it explicitly says 'imported', while my bottle from Lidl doesn't, but in fact says that it's distributed in the UK by so and so.
Looks like im going lidl tomorrow lol
Hey Simon, i know this isnt to do with this video but Camden brewery have a new shandy out called lager top, i saw it in sainsburys but it might be out elsewhere, would be an interesting comparison between that and the new fosters shandy, both are around 5 pound for 4 cans
I’ve got this one in, gonna give it a go at some point 👍😀
Wish we had a Lidl where I live….not the same range in Tesco
I got one of these a few days ago, bloody great sip!!
Oh dear Mr Bazza ( all the beer, no idea ) found it very bland ! 🤷
It isn't palmed off, brewed for Lidl crap though, the are an actual Abbey Brewery with history ! 👌
I like the Blanche one but the others give me a headache...
Hi. You should review Aldi’s “IPA” as it’s great to taste + great value at £1.49, 500ml & 5.5%. My fav + just discovered the channel & I love it 😊
Probably reviewed it, check my uploads to see if I have reviewed a beer you are currently or have plans on drinking.
@@realaleguide Yeah, you've reviewed it and I believe you thought it was ok-ish.
Personally I agree with the comment above and love the stuff.
One for this afternoons shopping list, nice one cheers Si
Great review yet again Simon ! I'm off to get some 👍
A small request here - Can you please let us know when you are doing a live pub event ?
I love these evenings and do not want to miss out. Many thanks ..
He told me it's back in October
@@tobyjackman3212 Cheers 👍
Yep October when the evenings are dark
Keith Chegwin back on the beer.
Decent value, that
There is a range of about 5 of these all excellent, I wish they'd make them permanent...Lidl and Aldi still get the imported beer in at decent ABVs.
Worldwide I think Aldi and Lidl might be bigger companies thanTesco, so they can absorb the UK government ABV tax.
I've noticed the focus of the Lidl beer festival has changed to continental lager ...they had a few Brewdog boxes, but none of the vile beers from Donkeystone etc...
They certainly are bigger than Tesco.
Simon had you got that Italian ipa from Lidl
Yep it’s on its way to the channel soon 👍👍
10:19 Excellent burp 😂👏🫡
Another crappy Lidl beer full of sugar. No thanks.
No
Alchies cheeks are starting to go. Downward spiral
