Remember to reapply the thermal paste. Clean the old ones with alcohol and qtip and reapply with x formation.
X formation? I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks John!

@@cosmicgamingunlimited the die size matters with how you apply thermal paste. For todays larger cpu dies (on main computers); the "dot" method is just not enough coverage usually. For a device this small, the pea sized dot is *plenty*. The "x" is useless here, but REPLACING said thermal paste is imperative. For this application, thermalright TF8 (5 bucks on amazon) is probably the best product to use. If anything, it would probably improve thermals (sometimes thermal paste is pretty ridiculously bad; and i dont trust anbernic to be applying the most high quality stuff in the first place) to replace it anyway. The ram and vrm cooling wouldnt really need much love as they just wont produce enough heat to matter in any capacity.
I am going to have some PTM7950 left over from watercooling mu GPU, I was thinking I could use a bit of the offcuts when swap button positions on my unit.
Just did this upgrade using your video. Ty!
Awesome! Did you get the clear or the black unit?

How do you find the new sticks? Are they a lot better?

@@cosmicgamingunlimited Thank you 👍
Good upgrade and decent video, but I was having anxiety watching you use improper tools! Buy an iFixit kit or a electronics kit. Anything other than that terrible allen wrench and micro screwdriver. Find a spudger or a flat plastic tool to spread apart the case
I thought it would be funny, but people took it seriously. I use other tools in my other videos. I honestly just wanted people to realize you don’t need expensive tools to fix or replace things.
@@cosmicgamingunlimited lol. Well good to know. Yours is the first video I’ve seen for this upgrade so you were new to me. Now that I know you know better I’m in on the joke lol. Thanks
@@o.g.awe3785 FYI, it was annoying my 5 year old daughter as well. She watches me make these videos. I do them in my garage. She was like “why are you using my stuff! Your tools are right there!” I also use an oversized chisel to split open a RG35XX H. Good times. I thought about redoing this video since I am new to making videos and have learned a lot since making this.
@@cosmicgamingunlimited ha ha! That’s great. I’ll look at your other videos.
did it make a HUGE night and day difference?
I like to play palworld via Xbox cloud gaming. When using the selector wheel I would find it impossible to select items in specific locations on the wheel. This fixed the issue. The sticks feel better as well. The kit I bought was $20, but I just used the link from Retro Game Corps. Any Nintendo switch replacement stick will work with this device. Pick a kit that comes with the tools. I do find I need to reduce sensitivity in games, even on stock sticks.
Nice

Great video friend! My question is.. if I need to replace the battery and dpad. where I can buy? Is it possible to purchase these parts?
I would contact anbernic directly. I would expect aftermarket parts to start showing up as the RG556 starts selling more units, as its fairly new. What part of the dpad needs replaced?
@@cosmicgamingunlimited Thanks for the answer friend. I asked because I live in Brazil and wanted to know if Anbernic would sell these pieces separately and send them to Brazil. In my case the dpad is making a noise every time I press "up" on the dpad and on the left analog stick too.
Hi! Just want to ask if the front shell is easy to replace? Mine has a crack and I already ordered the replacement shell from Anbernic.
You will need to do everything in the video PLUS removing the screen. You will need to heat the adhesive with a hair dryer for about 2-3 minutes before removing the screen. Gently pry off the screen with a plastic expunger tool. If you are gentle you can reuse the adhesive. If not, you will need to buy new. Don’t overheat the screen, it will burn the oled and cause your screen to be brown.
Where can I buy analog spare parts?

Is there much reason to replace the right stick? Seems like most games use the left one only, no?
When I did the test, only one stick was really bad. If you are in this situation and only play retro games, you should be good. I stream games to this device and I couldn't select certain items from weapon wheels in pal world until I did the replacement. Also, if you do the swap to both sides, the stick caps are removable from gulikit, so can remove the cap and get more space for hitting the abxy buttons.
hello there I bought the gulikit joysticks but they are not calibrated how can I get them calibrated? I looked on Google but couldn't find anything at all.
Simply restart the device with sticks centered. If that didn't work, you may have defective sticks :(
hello there I bought the gulikit joysticks but they are not calibrated how can I get them calibrated? I looked on Google but couldn't find anything at all.
Reboot the device with the sticks centered.
@@cosmicgamingunlimited I have already done it several times but it doesn't change anything when I am halfway through the joystick travel the console recognizes that it is at 100%
What about the Dpad, because my dpad is drifting so how should I go about that?
Check the membrane and if the plastic rocker is malformed.
So it's better than original?
Yes. I recommend it. It would be great if they just fixed the problem at the factory. If anyone has purchase one lately let me know if the factory sticks still fail to hit all corners.
@@cosmicgamingunlimited I recently purchased one and the sticks do reach all corners. Tho my D-pad doesn’t register left all the time and may just send it back. That tear down is not user friendly at all. I replaced the sticks in my retro pocket 3+ and all I had to remove was the heat shield.
@@cperl79 The RG556 is the worst stick replacement out of all my videos. Having to completely remove everything to get to the sticks is annoying. It's like a different company designed it other than Anbernic as their other handhelds are easily accessible.
Great demo on the upgrade!
Glad you think so!
apart from forcing the thing apart
@@goodfodderI explain later to use an expunger tool, but it would still require quite a bit of force to separate.
Where did u buy this please help me
I purchased mine from amazon. Here is an affiliate link to the item amzn.to/3JtF292. I will make a small amount from amazon if you purchase using this link.

the million dollar question -> was it worth it?
Yes! The only issue is when playing modern games like COD and you want to click the stick while pushing forward, the stick will not let you physically click in. For most emulation this is not an issue.
Why would any one replace Switch sticks with more Switch's sticks. That's like replacing cancer with another cancer.
Switch style sticks. Switch sticks are not Hall effect and prone to stick drift. The RG556 comes with poorly made Hall effect sticks. I replaced with higher quality ones. They are more accurate than the factory RG556 sticks and not prone to stick drift like switch. I should never need to replace these. Also, the housing and board cannot support the larger ps5/xbox sticks, I like those style better as they have more travel and are better for fps games.
@@cosmicgamingunlimited apparently the 556 ones are k silver and decent sticks. The gamma software fix would of been a better improvement. We could hardly tell if it's better off your video
@@mattdrifts 1:20 I demonstrate a spot that is impossible to hit before the swap. 21:15 I show that spot is now easily reachable. So, not sure if you did even attempt to watch the video? Also at the time of making this video no such update existed.
