Absolutely lost it at the bum pad fashion montage! Also, I love your point about how padding should be seen as an acceptable option if a person doesn't have the fashionable figure as opposed to modern methods of dieting or surgery.
I used to work at an Adam and Eve’s and while I can’t tell you the brand name anymore, they make modern day bum rolls that are basically spanks with pads. :3
(We sold it for trans bodies to achieve a desired silhouette, but you get the point.)
I mean, there *is* padded shape wear. My mom has a friend who wears what she calls "butt panties", especially with formal wear, and honestly, it looks really nice.

Your comment about the 2005 butt vs the 2020 butt had me cackling hard enough to have to explain it to my boyfriend. Well played. That montage was also complete perfection, brief as it was.
If you’re wanting a less extreme bum pad, I recommend making one from the 1890s. It’ll give you the shape, without being too obvious. In comparison to the one you made here, it almost looks flat- too flat to make much of a difference. But you’d be surprised! I’m sure you could find a tutorial or pattern for a late Victorian bum pad!
LOLOL! I love the modern clothes fashion show at the end! For my bum pad, I ended up tufting mine because with all the layers it was just too big. Tufting it really helped to control the loft.
I tried a quick Google search on the word but I’m still not quite sure in regards to the bum roll…what did you do?
@@kestrels.9189 I posted a video about this on my channel. Basically, you take a tight stitch through the bum pad (from the front, through the stuffing and out the back at approximately the same position as the front). Do this at intervals to shape and control how puffy the bum pad is.
@Jessica Rain City Yes, it's to control the stuffing, but it's individual stitches made at intervals, not running stitches. I am not sure I'll ever wash it, but I do think the stuffing would behave better in the wash this way.

My Mom is big on Renaissance fashion and (pre-pandemic) we used to go to Renaissance Festival in consume. She made my sister, myself and herself moon shaped bumpads that tie around the waist. It's more subtle and might work better under modern clothes!

I made this a few months ago and last night added more fluff as the weight of the dress and petticoat compressed it over time. Love it though! Also love this stays pattern! Had so much problems with that chemise though
To keep the stuffing from shifting or the pad from deflating you could put in a few hand stitches. Adding a few tack stitches in the pad will help to hold everything in and create a mock quilted effect.

Hi!😊 I’m new-ish to sewing so I found this video because I’m working on the same pattern 😂 not sure if someone has already said but the amount of poly fill is under “notions” on the pattern package. For bum pad pattern, it’s 10oz of poly fill! I was trying to figure out the sandwiching part and this video helped me wrap my brain around it. Thanks!!❤

As a toy maker, (i work with polyester stuffing a lot) breaking your stuffing up into smaller, cotton-ball sized chunks helps to avoid a lumpy appearance, its more time consuming, yes, but it makes it a whole lot smoother and means that you don't as much end up with unevenly stuffed areas 😊
What a glorious and cute bum pad! I lost it when you shown us it under dresses. I think that one other use of bum pad is when someone is terribly boring, you can undo it and use it as a pillow 😂

I love the idea of bum pads getting back into style! Padding is not unheard of today, but it’s apparently built into tights and stuff. Why not have it is a separate garment? I remember being shocked when big bums were getting into style and my friend was always trying to figure out whether or not girls on the street were wearing these padded tights. Having myself struggled in the early 2000’s to even find jeans that fit me because of my bum I thought of this as such a silly trend, and now 8 years later it has just grown even larger. I am still unsure about my body, but at least I feel more accepted as I can find pants that fit more easily and that more body types are taken into consideration when manufacturing clothes. Not all body types are attainable for everyone and getting to a specific style with something as uninvasive as a bit of padding should be applauded, not looked down on. I would much rather see young girls doing this than to rush out to get surgery as soon as they are legally allowed and it maybe not being the trend in ten years.

I am glad you didn't go with the fabric scrap stuffing. I think it would work for a smaller pad, but this one is just too big to be stuffed with something heavy.

I re-enact the English Civil War (17th C) and we just stuff a long sock/pair of tights to go around the circumference of the waist.
I just want one of these so I can always have a cushion to sit on lol, the big butt is just a bonus lol.
Let me tell you what I did today. I try to use my brain. I need new butt pads. Tried to come up with an idea. Had to have 2 identical pieces of course.I looked in a tote. Voila a new PR of mittens !! I cut them at the wrist. They fit in my pocket of my undies perfect. They are filled with foam already
I'm so tempted now, because as much as a circle skirt flattens your bum, a petticoat makes your legs so damn hot in the summer; however a tiny bumpad...............genius

The hips were great, I'm not a expert but I think the back was a little over stuffed. But depending on the weight other dress it should be fine.
